Looks like they stealth nerfed the loophole that let you use shield adjust to boost the front and back shields on two different components and then RE them for max potential.

Shield adjust no longer seems to be a permanent command and resets as soon as you land. I also noticed another peculiarity since the patch went live today. I had some looted shields, all of them had differing values for F/B. As soon as I loaded them into my ship it seemed like the average was taken from both F/B and applied to both making the numbers even. I tried this with about 6 other shields I had(I was hoping to RE them using the shield adjust loophole) and it did the same to all of them.

I'm not really complaining about this though. I thought it was a cool little work around to get some better shields but I guess you could call it an exploit. At least I was able to do it once with a set of shields that are now about 4k F/B =]

I dont think that qualifies as a nerf... but the fixing of an exploit.

the problem is that the peolple who allready did this now have another advantage. i knew i should have red my shield last night when i had teh chance. i never tried this myself but if it did work before and it doesnt work now than this is bad news.

if they keep doing stuff like this we are going to have a minority of players with all teh prenerf gear and no one is going to be able to touch them. while i agree that it needed to be fixed, they should have also done something like buffing crafted shields so that the late comers have a way to get something comparable to the pre-patch shields. if this messes up the balance they can always make the ai more powerful, and we need more protection in pvp anyway so this would be a welcomed change.

if they had made it so that we would be able to get better shields, then people would be motivated to get out there and look for them. now everyone is either going to sit on their pre-patch shield and use it forever, eventualy getting bored since they are not seeing any progress, or give up since they know they will never be able to compete.

this is the same as the reward engine. if it was too fast, than make everything else faster, dont nerf it and leave no way to ever get something with simlar stats. when you do that you screw the new people and you piss off the community. no one would ever complain if they made it so that shipwrights could craft an engine as nice as the reward.

Glad to see this got fixed. Eventually decay will take unfair equipment out of the system, it's pretty much a nonissue.

decay will take them out of the system??? decay only reduces the armor/hp of a component.

if you had a choice between a shield that had 3500 f/b and 1hp, or a shield with 2400 f/b and 1000000 hp, which would you use? last time i checked people dont target your shield generator after your armor is toast...

I never thought of that, and ya I would think that is the perfect definintion of a crafting exploit.. Using a game mechanic in an un-intended manner to increase the stats of a player created item (RE is kinda player created).

Speaking as a person who has a 50.9/50.9 armor and 69.3/69.3 HP capacitor in his ship...You don't knowjack about component armor/hp. A single shot past the armor and my capacitor is the first thing to blow, while my ship can often take several more hits. Andmany timesregen enough shields to continue the fight (emergency shields, capacitor to shield shunt). Pretty worthless tho since I can't shoot anything (though I've gotten 1 kill from using the proton torps that remained online).

And who are you kidding anyways??? The fact that you're worried about the 'advantages' people have over 'pre-nerf' (cough exploit fixing cough) says to me that the only thing you'll be fighitng are NPCs or agreed duels.

so are you saying you would sacrifice 1000 f/b shield strength for more armor/hp on the shield? did i say anything about capacitors? seriously, if you have 1000 more shield strength who cares what the hp of your shield generator is. i flew around for weeks with a engine that had 50 hp and if i took a single hit in pvp i was disabled on the spot, but i kept coming back for more.

and as fas as me "only fighting NPCs" i consider my self one of bria's premire pvp pilots.

im not worried about jack, i enjoy fighting other people no matter what the odds. just the other day i went guns blazing into a group of 5 or more imps who were trying to grind faction, i dont care what the odds are.

what i am conserned about most is stuff like this scaring away other people from pvping. overts in space are far to uncommon, i can fly around all day looking for a fight not find any declared imperials. and when i do find one and promply kill him, he shows back up covert and afraid.

when someone kills me in pvp the first thing im gonna do is hunt them down for a rematch.

speaking of which i am an alliance pilot on bria that needs to be shut up, so if any of you imps want a match id love to hear from you.

One star me all you like. I really don't care. Not when it comes from someone who says "i knew i should have red my shield last night when i had teh chance."

What part about reengineering shields that had their front and back hitpoints artificially boosted to increase the total max shields on the final product beyond the maxtotal capacity of all the shields used doesn't sound like an exploit? But you expressed your willingness to use it. "one of bria's premeir pvp pilots"? I doubt that if that's how you gain your 'edge'.

And yes, I'm saying I'd sacrifice 1000 f/b shield for more armor/hp on the shield, especially in PvP. Because if you're such a premier pvp pilot, you'd know 1000 f/b doesn't mean jack in PvP with the amount of damage another player can pour into your ship. And your example shield generator with 1 armor/hp would be useless on the first shot past armor in PvE. Happens to me all the time. Blown capacitor = mission over, regardless of my ship status.

Sorry, but you cry too much about 'advantages' that are mostly in your head and nowhere else. The simple thought that someone might have an advantage in equipment due to a nerf seems to terrify you. "OMG! They might have the 92 speed reward engine! OMG! They might have an RE'd f/b reinforced shield booster! I'm d00mz0red!". If you're so big into PvP, just hush and shoot em. The 'advantages' are almost miniscule, though you give them a huge advantage by defeating yourself at the thought.

I have no idea how well Ostat PVP's, but he takes out the vette solo in a A-Wing with 1 gun and no armor.

For the 1 hp shield debate, if your shields are down your pretty much gone anyway. It's time to leave the party then cause all your armor is doing is protecting your soft underbelly while you hit max velocity or hyperjump out of harms way. When it comes to HP, better you have as much as possible on engines, reactor, etc. for a hasty retreat than on shielding thats never going to come back up even with a zillion hp.

if you had bothered to read my post you would have seen that i agree that this needed to be fixed, but that i think shields need to be reballanced now since it gives an edge to the people who have allready taken advantage of this and now its impossible to get similar shielding. and the 1star is not because you disagree with my opinion, it is because you made a personal attack agianst me.

what i was pointing out is that so far since ive been playing this game the devs have nerfed the possible stats on loot, they have nerfed the only high speed engine that fits in a light fighter, and they have fixed a loophole that lets people create stronger shields through RE. while these may be good changes in the end since it helps the crafters and it fixes an exploit, i dont like the way they are going about doing it since it leaves the allready existing parts in place. if there was a shield expoilt then they need to not only fix the expoilt but also make the shields that were created using it obsolete.

what i would love to happen in this game is for me to wake up one day and find that all my gear is worthless, and that there is new more powerful ship parts waiting to be crafted or looted, and that with my current gear i get slaughtered. the one thing i want more than anything else in this game is a new goal to work toward. something challenging to do where i could look forward to a useful reward.

This isn't really that big of a concern, if you ask me. Anyone who has one of those 4k shields may find themselves hard pressed to fit it into a ship suitable for PvP (read: A-Wing or Interceptor) along with everything else, and even if they do manage it...its still not that hard to get through the thing what with pvp damage output.

You're whining about something that has happened in every MMOG to date and has yet to noticeably affect most competitions between players. And in JTL it means zip since you're talking about the difference of near 1/2 a laser bolt (nevermind proton IIIs/concussion IIIs/spacebombs).

The imbalances caused by equipment rebalances is miniscule and mostly perceptual on the player's part. You think they have the advantage and now they do because you've given it to them by defeating yourself before anything happen. Most people will not have the 92 speed reward engine or Exploited shields. So whining about the phantoms that do have them, the odds ofanyone encountering are against and grow smaller everyday, is useless line noise. I PvP when I have to, not actively seeking a fight with another player. When the fight does come, especially in JTL, I don't give a damn about what components that person may or may not have in their ship. It's not like I'll ever know (no way to scan a ships components),

Is it a good hull vs hull matchup?
Are the opposing numbers near equal?

If the answer to both the above questions is no, hyperspace. If not, vape them. My biggest concern is whether or not they're carrying a countermeasure launcher and a missile launcher. Worrying components whose stats I'll never know, prolly aren't encountering anywaysand really won't impact the outcome significantly I leave to other "pilots".

In PVP your shield strength is not going to matter, I dueled someone with 4700 F/B supposedly and he was still a 1 hit kill with paired REed incom TriCannons and WO3 on a Ywing.
