Short and sweet, discussion is thus:
Tie oppressor. Comparitlvly small, fairly manuverable, brings to bear three MK II Image rec missles in a fight. It can trump small and fast manuverable fighters such as the A wing. It is an ablity that only the Empire has, its very effective and very leathal. It's *almost* an "I win" button.
With the addtion of the ROTW ships, the lack of similar ablity in the rebel alliance is all that much more pronounced i think. Sure the rebels could toss out a Y wing LP or a Bwing, but their nowhere near as effective as an oppressor given its size, manuverabilty, and payload.
Now the question is this, would an Xwing with 2 missle slots give the rebels a "poor mans oppressor" and restore some semblance of balance? While not having 3 missle tubes, its manuverablity should more than make up for the 3rd tube, and the two tubes it would have, should be amply effective in getting the job done that the oppressor does so well.
Thoughts?

Although I havent tried them (I don't PVP... tiresome pasttime that) I was under the impression that countermeasure of .. whatever kind they make are supposed to be fairly efective at neatralizing missle threat. That just a load of crap and missle rule all then?

CM's are fairly effective. Imrec's have the best chance to get through. Trick is to launch at short distance so the other gets a missile warning immediately followed by a trip to a spacestation.

Meh, using missles in PvP is too easy. Anyone who relies on using missles to get their kills needs to learn to fly better. Just my opinion.

Yeah funny that Aerial combat hasn't relied on guns since World War II, yet in a super advanced civilization you are effectively a noob if you use missles? Please explain this to me.

Machoman bravado aside, missles are in PvP, they are being used, they are effective, it's useage is most favored by the Empire by virtue of the oppressor, it is a trump card that is being played, and it does tilt the balance scales in favor of the empire.

You're forgetting something: A jedi fighter with a nice YPR engine is going to be IMPOSSIBLE to hit unless the pilot sucks.
That's when you use missles. Against other ships, I only use missles as secondary weapons when the opponent streamsaway fromme and I have a clear shot.

Forget about 2 missile slots for PvP!
Just give us the 2 missile slots because:
1. The damn thing has 2 in the films and books
2. the damn thing has 2 bloody missile tubes on its graphic.
Its bad enough not having 4 guns on the Xwing (this stupd third gun is crazy) but at least give us that second missile tube that we can SEE every time we zoom out to look at our cool paint jobs (you know you do it too).

Yeah and give the Interceptor more mass, and a 2nd gun...... 4 bolts one gun...... umm.....
"Unlike the TIE fighter, the interceptor has four powerful laser cannons mounted on the tips of the dagger wings. TIE interceptors figured prominently in the Battle of Endor."

I've always thought fun and balanced gameplay should take precedence over strict adherence to canon. You've got to weigh that against keeping the game immersive and properly Star Warsy, but when it comes to debating whether the X-Wing should have 4 guns instead of 3, I think it's more important, for instance, to keep to the spirit of the X-Wing (a heavily armed space superiority vessel) than to risk imbalances.
As for the idea itself, I like it and have been thinking about it for a while. Giving the X-Wing two missile slots would cut back on the number of Y-Wings and B-Wings out there, yes, but let's be honest with ourselves--how many people are flying Y-Wings and B-Wings into PVP as it is? I see them now and then, but as a general rule bombers aren't worth the tradeoffs you have to make to fly them. Adding another missile slot to the X-Wing turns it from an "enh" to a "thumbs up" in PVP. It still won't be the interceptor-murderer that the Oppressor is, but it will go a long ways toward making up the missile deficit Rebels are currently flying under.
I don't think this would have been necessary pre-RotW, but now that Imperials have access to a ship as small as the A-Wing and even slipperier when it comes to evasive maneuvers, I do think it's important to make sure both sides have a viable way to deal with each others' ultra-minute light fighters.
As a bit of a tangent, I've been thinking about how the Empire doesn't have a single ship with three weapon slots, which is a significant disadvantage in both PVE and space mining. Should that be an issue as well?

My attitude is if I get two missiles locked onto me, I f*cked up somewhere.
IMRECs might lock on faster, but if you're dancing well enough, a pilot wasting time trying to lock you up is just going to die quicker.

Ive acutally thought about that for a long time. Infact, i guess you could say during the time period where i was more of a rookie then i am now, i often wished to trade up 1 of those missle tubes for 3rd gun, and mount 1 gun on each wing. Making the oppressor a "poor mans defender" maybe? I dunno.

Ever use any in PvP? It only takes about a second to lock, and you don't have to be very accurate in your aiming. All you have to do, is keep the target painted anywhere in your HUD. You have a very large cone of fire with this missle to obtain a lock. Its a very easy, and forgiving weapon to use.
