Thread: PvP, and an Xwing with 2 missle slots.

If you want to count the fact that the X-wing has 2 ports on the graphic, therefore it should have 2 torp racks. Then the missile packs need to have their ammo halved, possibly quartered.

Since we're being accurate to the films and background, X-wings should only carry a max of 6 torpedos split over 2 launchers, instead of 14 in one.

Fine by me, but then game balance would be a problem. And someone else would be whining about something different but equally stupid

I dont think saying that the Xwing should have 2 missile tubes is "whining" nor is it "stupid" but perfectly reasonable as it has many benefits, not the least being balance rebel ships a bit better against their imperial counterparts.

ah, but asking for anything to be changed specifically because it's in the films (the argument you made) *is*, since as you so readily pointed out, that would work as a reason for cutting out most of the game. My suggestion that missile packs should have a reduced loadout was entirely tounge in cheek.

I never made an argument based on the fact that it had 2 torps in the films!

It was a reasonable humorous aside that obviously passed well above you!

My argument for having 2 torp tubes in the X-wing is that it would then make the Rebel ships more balanced rather than less balanced in game!

And by the way - missile packs do have reduced loadouts in Xwings. You put 1 missile tube and pack in yet the missiles fly out the right tube then the left then the right meaning you have 2 tubes from one launcher and half the missiles go out each tube. I just think a better implementation would be to have each missile tube on the ship correspond to a missile launcher you have loaded and the missiles therein. Therefore 2 missiles would be good. this would roughly equate 2 the 2 gun 3 missile Opp (the X then havin 3 guns 2 missiles)!

It had already been said several times - see above - so i didnt waste everybodys time by reposting, perhaps you should try reading the previous posts in a thread before posting as it removes the chances of redundant posts and stops everyone from wasting their time. If you do not post against something then you tacitly agree with it.

Ever use any in PvP? It only takes about a second to lock, and you don't have to be very accurate in your aiming. All you have to do, is keep the target painted anywhere in your HUD. You have a very large cone of fire with this missle to obtain a lock. Its a very easy, and forgiving weapon to use.

I've been in over 50 engagements, and never had a missile fired at me once, nor have I ever used one in PvP myself.

Really?

Not even "training missiles" or "smoky sams", I never used them but every time I see a JSF i fire of about 30 - especially if he is following me!

I would hope you're kidding around, as otherwise that'd constitute griefing. I can understand feeling the ships are unbalanced--I agree with you there--but taking it out on players would be over the line.

As far as missiles in general go, I burn them all the time in PVP. They do throw off your aim a bit, but if you just follow someone like you normally would and blast away with your guns, you can also hold down your missile fire key/button and they'll fire automatically once you get lock.

Of course, when you've only got 5 missiles total, it's not always wise to burn them every time you get lock. I know a lot of people feel they're dishonorable in PVP, but there's really a lot of strategy behind knowing when and where to use them, and a simple chaff launcher does make for pretty good defenses even against Image-Recs.

What a quick reply!!!!

TBH i only use them against friends. we have spent the past few days flying round a disabled corvette scaring the crap out of people we called in to complete their missions hehe!

Plus, it really is good training to practise combat with these and listen for the "cant hurt" beep in normal space!

In PvP I havent used smokies yet but it is an excepted combat technique on my server (long as you dont continually spam it), and it is also used as a "hello, im going to try to kill you" warning.

However, I consider the use of the JSFgriefing (especially since as a rebel my adv. X wing quest is broken), especially by those who have never PvPed before and most people use them against JSFs to ATTEMPT to even the balance.

It should be noted that there where at most 10 (this is really over the top - more like 5-6) regular PvPers on my server, who had our own pilot code, now there are 3-6 rebels, 1-2 freelancersand 50-100 Imperial PvPers (except on sundays!)!

Against "true aces" ie, regular pvpers smoky sams are just a bit of fun!

Against the new breed of JSFers - well i guess they will just have to adapt and overcome (sound familiar)!

It should be noted we had a really good system of PvP before the JSF.

It was just a handful of pilots pitting their skill against each other. Forget the ww2 origins of star wars fighter combat, it was more gentlemanly, a la ww1 fighter combat. ie enemies would watch you 1 on 1, and ask you if they could join in!

I guess thats why there are a handful of REAL aces on our server who in our new (this sunday will be second) regular large scale engagements vape everything - except each other!

And on that note -

TOTUSS - when i get my adv X im coming for you in my souped up engine and this time - if you chase me ill get away (last sundays best was his JSF chasing me for 20 mins lol)!
