Do any of you fly your POB ships? Have any of you explored some of their strengths/weaknesses?
I see threads here going in two very distinct directions. People hyped on their ultralight Clone Relic garbage who are turning and asking to fly a Star Destroyer/Nebulon/Corvette. /boggle
What priyatell to you people expect to do in these monsters? I hear all kinds of insults hurled at POBs because of their lacking maneuverability, and I've gotta ask, do you REALLY think ships ten times larger are going to juke and turn like an Actis on crack? If these ships crack 500 speed, I'll be amazed, we've never seen them top 200 speed in space, so what makes you think the ships you get are going to be so much more stunningly impressive?
Especially to you jokonies who want your own Corellian Corvette. You won't even have your own Aimbot (tm) turrets, probably, and you see people publishing guides on soloing them, and you think you're private uberyacht is going to be somehow immune?
Really, before anyone gets hyped about having these moving mountains of virtual steel, lets take a LONG LONG look at their little cousins. If the Devs can't make them worthwhile and functional for players, what the heck makes you think the big ships will be anything other than the ultimate free lunch in space PvP?
We're talking about steps down a yellow brick road when we haven't even arrived from Kansas yet...

I love my Decemator. And I'm very, very anxious for my Lambda. I doubt I'll ever mess with the capital ships, as I don't have the ground power to be involved in the capture of one, but if I were to ever get my hands on one, it'd be a HUGE floating house for me. I want to live in space.

I just want to use one for a yacht... my YT just isn't that great as one and I don't have room for the both the sorosuub and the YT.

on a side note, a functioning, DE crafted, "aim bot" that will use a turret 50% as well as an AI turret in a NPC-POB ship might not be a bad idea.

Darlin', I'd give my eye teeth for a pair of those right now.

something about the whole idea makes me want to throw up, but, maybe something like that is what we need to actually load the POBs with some decent turret action.
i'm sure a normal person could beat them out, but, an aim bot won't get insanely frustrated with the whole "corkscrew spirals" i've been known to pull in my bathtub-on-roller-skates-esque decimator.
maybe they could act as regular r3s, and, since every person can only pull one r3 at once, maybe it wouldn't be too unbalancing?
while we're at it, an r3 that could run droid programs for you while you're sitting in the pilot chair would be a godsend.

Actually, my gunners do pretty well with me flying like a maniac.

i would much rather have some kind of spaec-gyro scope installed in the turret so that "normal people" could operate them without too much difficulty, but some kind of automated thing might not be a bad idea.
at the very least, the ability to have the ship "drive straight" while you walk around inside might be pretty cool.

I would fly my PoB more often, but the lack of scaled defenses for the size and lack of maneuverability (not to mention the turrets locking to the ship's position rather than auto-adjusting to movements) make it rather silly. As has been said many times, for the 4 people you'd need to opperate a PoB, you'd be much better off with 4 players in their own fighters.
Now, once that gets taken care of I see a big role for them as heavily armored gun platforms (and perhaps transports for smuggling and carrying boarding parties at some point down the road).
Scale that up for full capital ships and you have space dominance vessels which play a big role - owning a sector of space, by force. You don't trifle with something that has that many guns. Adding the ability for fighters to land on 'em and launch from them (and repair on them)would make them even more formidable and give them extended roles as well.

this post touched on something i've been searching for, but have been unable to articulate myself--
the scaled defense is what's missing from the POB.
fix the turrets, fix the shields/armor, and it wouldn't be a bad ship at all.

The only thing I disagree with here is the "you don'ttriflewith something that has that many guns."
That underside blind spot and the fact that Corellian Corvette systems can be targeted without going through the shields....

This is true. I'm having a lot more trouble with one Tier 4 gunboat than I have ever had with a Vette.
