Thread: PVP etiquette?
Is there any. I just recently started going into Kessel, and the other day I saw a red dot, that turned out to be a player. Well, he engaged me, so I evaded, and set a course for Naboo. I was really wrapped up in trying to get master pilot, so I didnt want to get blown up at that moment. Anyway, I am not the aggressive pilot. I mostly enjoy this pve, and didnt want to duel him. Was that bad etiquette? Was I supposed to go ahead and duel him. I dont see any rules of engagement for space.

You did the right thing. I see many players just hypering out if they dont want to pvp and I don't blame them.
I am always ready to defend myself and my ship. However, as the old saying goes, he who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day. I am a defensive pilot, I only fire if fired upon (pvp), and when I am fired on, I usually evade, and engage, until I can hyper to safety.
From Dictionary.com
overt (adj)- Open and observable; not hidden, concealed, or secret
If you declare, you should be ready to fight. If your primary goal is PvE related (mastering pilot) then you should not declare. This is why Kessel was changed from a PvP zone, so that non masters could ace without interference. By declaring, you are saying you don't mind the interference. Personally, I think that means you should face anyone you run into instead of running. The faction points earned by killing NPCs are a reward granted by taking on the risk inherent in that vulnerability, and you should face that risk.
caveat- the only time I give quarter in Overt situations is against a known Ace that is assisting in a Kessel mission. Being overt and gaining the faction is often the only reward they get for helping. I do this to encourage the assistance, and gives me more people in space flying so I can shoot 'em later ![]()
When you declare overt it is very similar to going special forces on the ground, you become fair game for declared pilots of the opposing faction.
That said I have found a tendency for pilots to ask each other if they are there to PvP or are simply there to grind faction points. after all there is no reward for PvP kills like there is on the ground, except of course bragging rights, and after your first few kills/deaths bragging rights take second place to simply having fun.
be prepared however to encounter pilots who are out for blood and will not warn you before hand, and if you so choose, by all means hit the 'get out of here' button and evade the combat. that is not bad ettiquette. you only run into that when you start load killing in deepspace, using /launchmissile in an engagement and a few other naughty things.
and always remember after a fight, whatever the outcome to have a brief chat with your opponent, maybe you can learn from each other
keep space civil and keep space fun
regards
Well, it's good etiquette to leave B-Wings alone in deep space...

LOL--if I were an Imperial, I'd be scared of B-wings. I've gotten a couple kills in mine, always on that first pass before any turning starts. Now that is the shotgun effect!

Ok. For the record, I do not mind going into Kessel overt. I would rather kill the NPC's at 50 fp/kill, as compared to 0 fp/kill, and I know what the risks are. But in my opinion, if I can stay alive to escape, then to me, that is just as good as padding an enemy kill.

I have no problem with someone fleeing a fight. It might be irritating, but there's nothing intrinsically "bad" about it. I'm just happy you're not coming on the boards complaining about the evil PvPers screwing up your faction farming.![]()
I dont seek PVP but i will do it if it comes my way I agree wth 1 of the above posters if i see a enemy ship ill take him out before he can take me out.
