Thread: I frakking HATE the new Battlestar Galactica !!!!!

Being an old Battlestar Galactica fan, I tried to like it, I really did. I even watched more than half a dozen episodes, even though I hated the concepts they were doing after seeing just two shows. Even now I tune in for maybe 20 minutesevery 3-4 weeks to see if they've added any redeeming qualities whatsoever. Still a constant disappointment.
I HATE the fact that now the Cylons look just like humans, turning the show into a McCarthy-era "the communists are among us and we can't tell them from us" mental F**k-fest. Lame.
I HATE the fact that over an entire season, most of the show storyline has focused on everything BUT space, the Cylons, and survival. Sure, it's in the background, but first we need to get you accustomed to the CO's drinking, Baltar's mental sex-buddy, political intrigue, the President's drug habit, a quick episode about a terrorist, an insurgency, partisan politics, and whatever personal crap can get dredged up for each character and exposed. Apparently the storyline will be so incredibly intricate that you need to know all these details in order to figure out the upcoming twists and turns. There are fifty-kabillion shows on TV to tune into for this kind of non-entertaining crud. Try CNN.
But most of all . . . .
I HATE the fact that here, in a place so distant from Earth that they don't even know where Earth is, they seem to have a good stock of H&K 9mm small arms . . .
. . . or the fact that they just pulled up in . . . wait for it . . . a HUMMER !!!! Good god. How frakkin' low budget is this show???
Did you see the medical doctor smoking a cigarrette? What a coincidence that not only tobacco grows on their planets but that they also have a cigarrette industry. Did you happen to catch the brand?
I could write a frakkin' book on stupid things I've seen on the show, even after having watched only half a dozen episodes in their entirety so far. Feel free to add your gripes to this list.
On the other hand . . .
Space combat is done well. Exactly like the "Homeworld" game, including even the music. Then again, their space combat MAY BE nothing but video-taped sequences of an actual "Homeworld" game, with the ships modified for the Battlestar theme. Think about it. If you've ever played that game, you'll know what I mean.
I don't care that Starbuck is suddenly female. Girls rock too. Rock on, Starbuck.
I like the idea that the Cylons now build "Cylon Ships" as opposed to putting individual Cylons in a ship like in the old Battlestar Galactica. Makes much more sense for a race of machines to build themselves to suit.
Go ahead, guys and gals, those old enough to have watched the original Battlestar Galactica episodes, Flame me or Follow me. Put your thoughts down.
3 points:
1) Um..... calm down.
2) Wrong forum
3)How on earth could you prefer the old Galactica to the new one!?
It's almost impossible to beat nostalgia. If you're to young to have seen galactica the first time, you'll probably prefer the new one.
If you have seen it when it was new, you're much more forgiving of all the crappy effects and such now.
My only gripe about the new series is that the women in positions of power thing is a bit overdone. Other than that, the new one is superior to the old one in every way. This is coming from a huge fan of the original series. Dealing with internal issues adds a nice depth to the show that the original lacks. The characters are more interesting and believable. And really, how many times can you watch the same clip or Starbuck hitting the reverse thrusters, cruise past the cylons behind him, then fly through the explosion he makes when he shoots one of them. You'd think that after the first million times he did that, the cylons would figure out how to add reverse thrusters on their own ships.

There are plenty of soap operas out there that will give you every bit of character development that you could ever desire. They overdo the hell out of it in Battlestar Galactica now.
And what about the totally unbelievable stuff like H&K 9mm small arms and them driving in Hummers? Come on. Gimme a break.
The original BSG rocked. I forgive all the shorcommings of it. They did a wonderful job with it for what was available when they did it.
Saying that, I like the new BSG as well. Starbuck is hawt, but there are too many Boomer's
But since I a CG junkie, that is the biggest thing to draw me in.
No matter what is said about the plot, actors or whatever, the effects ar great.
Frak you ![]()
J/K
I like em both. The original for it's tin cans that had less computing power than my old Commodore 64 and the new ones for it's flesh bots with the nonexistent morals ![]()
Ok, MAYBE the acting is overdone a bit, butthe show iscool as hell.
Gimme the original Starbuck for attitude and the new Starbuck for attitude (although I would want more of the new Starbuckthan just her attitude
)
And cmon, 9mm and Hummers? They did say they came FROM earth and that they are going a bit backwards in tech.
I actually think the new series is very compelling even if it is a tried and tested formula. I mainly like the way they've shot the space combat and the dynamics of the starvipers.
No. 6 is a hotty too.. ![]()
I never liked original BSG because it was SO badly done and a blatant rip off of Starwars. The new series gives it some credibility though because it is just so different to Starwars now.

Especially those cylon droid starfighters.
lol
That's the only really blatant one though. You are mostly correct.

The original ships were absolutely horrendous. If we had that AI out in space right now....oh, wait, nm.
Except for Kashyyk, you pretty much can stop and they fly by right into your firing pattern.
NM
Oh, and back to the OP's comments.
Truly, the way they set it up, if you had a huge, gigantic craft V craft war, the series would be over.
At this point in the new BG's timeline, every single part of the fleet is decimated, minus the Andromeda and, for now, the Pegasus.
The cylons have just now come back AFTER setting up, blowing up and generally screwing over every advanced piece of technology. They have many, MANY Base stars (Capital ships). Thousands of fighters (T5 droid ships in Endor
) Can create warriors out of the box that would crush most.
THAT is why there aren't a lot of space battles atm.
Although, the way this season ended, there oughtta be a mighty good one coming soon ![]()
BTW, does anyone else think the cylon's may have more in-house issues than the fleet does?
Oh, and in response to the Homeworld comments. Yes, it feels a lot like Homeworld.
Damn, now I wanna go play that.
BTW, Carrier Acolyte bombs FTW!!!!
or
Ramming frigate pushing the mothership into its own cannon shot FTW!!!!!
If I compare the 2, then I prefer the Original for the Nostalgia, but the New for the effects. But really, I view them as different shows. Keeping it in that perspective allows me to enjoy the new and pop in the Original DvD and enjoy it as well?
How was it a rip off of Star Wars? I really didnt see anything in common with the 2 except that they both came out in the 70's and they both were Sci-Fi space operas. The combination of a Blonde and a Brunette in lead roles appeared to be the trend in the 70's (Starsky and Hutch, Dukes of Hazzard, Adam 12, Chips, Emergency <the fire department one>
. Hope you were joking bout the droid fighters. Star Wars A new hope had nothing like that, while BattleStar Galactica had Cylon Ships piloted by 3 Robots).
Hmmmm.....I better stop, I'm getting a little too in touch with my Inner Geek.
