Thread: For the Spannerwrench monkey: Outfitting an RGI
- Must mount an L8 RE'd engine in it.
- Must run EO4
- Must have enough firepower in a single gunmount to get through an L8 shield in 1 to a maximum of 2 hits. Preferbly 1 hit.
- Have enough shielding to survive a single IR2 hit.
Heres what ive been able to figure out.
As weapon goes, an L7 is BARELY adequate, but its just not quite up high enough in the damage department. An L8, while doing enough damage, is horribly slow. an L10 is just too much mass. The answer seems to lay in an L9 gun. Rapid refire, with the damage of an L8 gun, and not quite as much mass as an L10.
Engines a no brainer, no room for debate here.
Shielding is the problem. To have enough mass to fit in an L9 gun, im finding i have to back the shield down to an MKIII, and lose the booster entirely! To compensate i added a couple MK II armor plating but i dont expect that to add much velvet.
Im thinking the "perfect" RGI, will have a good RE'd protecto net shield from nyms, and a super low mass L9 RE'd gun, (along with the non negotiable L8 engine).
What im finding is the tradeoff is really between defense vs firepower in this ship. Less gun, more shield. More gun, less shield.
Right now, i figure if anyone can get a missle hit on me in an RGI, they deserve the kill. With only a MK III shield and MK II plating, 1 hit might be enough to do enough system damage to put me out of the fight. Conversely, putting an an L8 shield with an L7 gun, i think the only thing taht can kill an RGI with that setup is a MK III proton missle, or a Space bomb.
Overall, ignoring the issues surrounding the hitbox, its acutally a well balanced ship in JTL. The proof is in the outfiting, that said, i REALLY wish it had a 2nd gunmount. Two L6 guns is really all you need, and twin L7's is ALOT of damn firepower in PvP. Heck i have that in my Tie Advanced. Infact, its odd that my Tie advanced has more firepower and shielding than my RGI, it just lacks the engine. (post ROTW, any ship without an L8 engine is a ship i wont pvp in ).
So all that said, anyone else have a different perspective on outfiting the red injun? (the one you have to scalp to kill

I think you have it about right.
I'm working on RE'ing a level 7 shield for it right now, using 2 Nym's reward Protecto-net (or whateve it's called) jammies.
Final product will look something like this: 15k mass, 2100 front/back hps, 2200 energy drain, 12.5 recharge.
As far as engine goes... I've been collecting for awhile, and I simply can't loot any that have a top speed I like. So I actually use a crafted one right now. Y/P/R a little low in the high 60s, but top speed almost 110. Running EO3, the low Y/P/R don't seem to hamper me at all, and I'm so fast it should be outlawed.
Got a decent RE'd level 8 gun, but working on a RE'd 9. It'll all be about the mass whether or not I can fit it.

YPR of an RE'd + lower energy use so able to run EO4 = you dead regardless of speed. I'd really try to finish an RE on a L8 if I were you.
Rapax, I'd say gun speed really isn't a huge issue. If they fix the hit box, I'll be putting a L8 RE gun in mine. Even a tenth of a second difference probably won't make a huge difference. Either you're at a high deflection and you're getting one shot either way, or you'll bebehind them and will have plenty of time to get of the two shots you will need to finish them.
Then drop the armor and upgrade the shields to a crafted L7 at least. Maybe even an RE.

Put together my Protecto-Net for the IGI. Came out at 2151 front/back, 15.2k mass and 13.77 recharge. L9 gun is pretty much done (6500 DPS, which is 1000 DPS better than my best L8 so far). And the engine... we all know how the engine is going ![]()
I'm really getting bored looting, and I dunno how muchy longer I can keep the interest in SWG alive, so I'm thinking I might just RE the thing soon, and just go play.
Aside from the big three, I'll be dropping the booster. Chaff countermeasures, andsome lighter ordnance (maybe Mark I Imagerec, haven't decided). DI is Mark II, and I'm using Mark I armour.
I've saved space with the new shield, and I think that'll go into either the DI, a booster, or some more armour.
Sorry I wasn't specific enough. lvl 7 weapon. Not engine. I wouldn't even consider either a crafted or REed lvl 7 engine.

RE'd Boltdriver is the best you can do for an L7 gun.
Ive used one for the longest time, even before ROTW. What im finding is lately is against a ROTW fighter (w/ L8 shields) wont get into a ships subsystems consitantly enough. Any hit that does not do system damge is a wasted shot, as the damage is shunted before you can get a follow up to connect. This is how i ended up in more then a couple 15 min dogfights, and why i put so much emphasis on the gun now when kitting this ship.
Crafted or REed L1-L3 reactor - 1-1.5k - 1.25k to split the difference
22k mass L8 QID - 22k
14.5k Protecto with 2000-2100hp - 14.5k
L9 weapon (seen them get down to ~34k) - ~36k (nice and round)
L4 Booster based off the three rewards with a burn rate in the 140s - ~2.7k if you're lucky
L6 or light L8 front quad armor protection - 3-9k
L4 armor in the rear, based off the SFS Light Military Grade Durasteel - 1986.x mass
Or you could just put an L1 slab in the back just to give you a "100%" rating - I LOVE people who don't bother putting a piece in their asses - nothing screams "SHOOT ME HERE, I'M INEXPERIENCED AND PROBABLY OVERARMED FOR MY MANEUVERABILITY/DEFENSES" better.

I am a magician when it comes to this stuff.
Im gonna play with guesstimates
Reactor, im wagering it will be a MK II at around 3300 mass.
Engine, im gonna say about 23K mass
Protecto shield that i wish i had, around 15K
L9 gun at about 36K
So that leaves you with about 77300/80000 mass.
So whatcha gonna do with the leftover 2700 mass..... hmmm? ;P
I am not going to pretend this is a viable loadout. But this is what I came up with just with the parts I have on hand either ready to go or ready to RE
Reactor lvl 1 762
Engine QID 23,202
Shield Protectonet 15661
Capacitor lvl 2 1770
DI lvl 4 2076
Lvl 9 blaster crafted 36,502
Total mass 79,973
This leaves no armor or booster,
Dang Duc you do come up with some puzzlers
