As a pilot, how many of you have a love/hate feeling for Shipwrights in general?

How i love good parts...
How i hate the money grubbing prices

On the same note....

How i love a SW with a sense of old world craftsmanship who does quality work at fair prices, and stands behind their products.

How i hate having to sift through the literal tide of wannabes that are trying to sell underpar crap at assinine prices.

Guaranteed a 1 star post by every SW who lurks here!

edit: truth mixed with sarchasm always make for an intresting thread

and a 5* from every pilot

some charge insane prices (1mil+ for a tier 5 ship) and others have very reasonable prices, just have to shop around. for a 400-500k price difference it's worth it

Anyone complaining about shipwright greed should take a long hard look at what they are complaining about. If you are complaining about prices of crafted components, perhaps you should peruse the requirements for building the ships that you complain about being so overpriced.

Mastering shipwright, IE constructing roughly 40-50 ships, cost me more money than many players will ever see. I don't craft for profit anymore because I literally never want to see another stack of steel in my life. Ever. Around 50 THOUSAND units of steel for a Tie Advanced. What's that at 3CPU? Keep in mind3CPU isa laughable price to assume you will find even mediocre steel at. I'm sure many many shipwrights would gladly build you a ship if you provided your own resources. Before complaining maybe you should post how much that really costs.

That being said, if players are complaining about shipwrights being greedy for wanting to remove the ease of flying in space from casual gamers by proposing a reinstitution of decay or superiority of all crafted components over looted components you get 5 stars from me. There are a plethora of ways to give SW's renewablebusiness without nerfing other players fun. IMO though, if players keep insulting shipwrights for trying to make a smidgeon of profit they will keep asking for inane things like decay and loot nerfing. Keep that in mind.

edit:

oh and shipwrights reading this, don't automatically assume all pilots think this way and further a pilot v shipwright dicotomy. people complain about prices because they do not knowthe insane amount of resources that gointo making a ship. it's not because they think you should be doing it for free and keep in mind you won't see posts or emails from people who think the prices are ok. it doesn't work that way, there are many players who understand.

Oh boy. This is a very common thread in the Shipwright Forum also. This Shipwright hates the guy undercutting his prices, pilots think SW's are greedy, this guy gouges, this guy is hurting the SW profession, etc. Lots of anger. I'm not flaming you, I just think there is a misconception about Shipwrights on a lot of people's parts.

The only thing that can be said for certain is that the vast majority of Shipwrights sell their items at far less CPU than any other crafting profession (and hey, the devs set those resource requirements, not the SW's), plus, Shipwrights have to hand craft the majority of their items with limited factory support.

My 25 unit crate of Vassarian goes for 210,000cr on Starsider near the MOP. They sell like hotcakes. Canape is more expensive, only 6 uses per individual unit, crates go for 220,000cr for a crate of 25. Can't keep it in stock (literally). I can factory run a bunch at a time. But on Starsider, you can get an X-Wing or a TIE Interceptor for under 200,000cr easily if you look around. And those are all made each by hand. No factory. (Side note: a surprising number of pilots don't even know that you can sell loot back to the chassis dealer for credits. They think that the credit chip is all the ducats available in space. Then they complain about the lack of money to be made in space. Not saying you, but talk to some pilots. You'd be surprised.)

The bottom line is it takes a LOT of resources to make a ship. Yes, they can all be harvested, no BE supplements, DE parts, etc are needed. But the bottom line is, most SW would make more money just selling the mined resources than spending the time to turn 60,000 minerals into a 200,000cr chassis.

This is not the fault of "greedy" Shipwrights. You need to be addressing the Focus threads in the Shipwright forum about the amount of resources used. Many Shipwrights I know do not even charge for Reverse Engineering (although a lot may change that). The solution by devs recently only made things worse. Rather than boosting the quality of Shipwright product, they NERF the loot and drop rates. Probably an easy programming solution, but one that only made all participants in JTL (Pilot and SW alike) unhappy. A real shame.

For real, well said.I get sick of these "Look at those Greedy Bastages" threads. if any proffession has a right to charge alot its Shipwright. Take a look at the resource prices lately, multiply that by the thousands of units per ship or component. Not to mention with the components requires new special materials. Factor in how much material they basically ground into dust to progress to master. Granted the meathod they use is entirely up to each shipwright. But when getting master requires 2mil xp just for the master box, not counting all those previous to it, then i think some of their prices are justified.

Here is a tidbit of helpfull advice to those people who think they overcharge. Find out how much resources go into the ship you want, go out and perchase those minerals. Take them to a shipwright and have him make the thing from your minerals. I bet after 2 times of doing that the hassle of finding your own minerals will change your mind. If all else fails grind your greedy arse up the shipwright tree and make your own stuff...oh wait then you couldnt be uber dood combat defense stacker god.

To make the point hit home a bit more.....

Average price for a set ofgood PvPComposite Armor : 450k (3,000 resources x 150cpu)

Average price for a 101k mass X-wing chasisto PvPin space: 300k (60,000 resources x 5cpu)

If a shipwright charged Armorsmith prices an X-wing chasis should be 9 Million credits EACH.

An armorsmith can also make unlimited amounts of armor in a factory - while he sleeps. EVERY item a shipwright sells (except comsumables) has to be hand crafted ONE AT A TIME.

Now who's greedy?

i saw this in the thread that someone posted this is stupid imo yes it makes since But another question just popes out that one why are they even charging 150cpu for the armor. If it is possible to charge 5cpu for a ship then why charge 150. To me this shows how messed up the economy really is.

I am not knock the sw businees or any artisan of any type but this to me just proves that some people are greedy. Even when they try to pass off looted stuff for re'd stuff. When i can buy a lotted lvl 3 reactor with a 12 to 13,000 energy rate for 3,000 to 100,000 that is a problem. I dont mind spending the money but i dont like being take advantage of. I wouldnt say i have sw hate to me it hard work to be any kind of artisan but then again i have only tested the artisan would and i dont like any park of it to me is a money pit unless you have a good spot and plenty or bots yelling at everyone to come look.(to me is a pain because i understand another a min or 2 but not rapid repeat that some of them have then set to.

What sparked the post I made in SW about greed was a person claiming in they were a member of another crafting profession and only charged 3 cpu for their products. That person never responded back when confronted with the costs of items at 3 cpu to say what profession they were. But the only one profession whoses prices are generally anywhere near 3 cpu is Architect.

It's not 'greed' in most cases of a Shipwright's prices. The volume of resources automatically push the cost of making an item through the roof for anyone without:

  • Multiple accounts

  • Lot swaps

  • Extensive support from a PA

The amount of resources required to make a single pack of Proton III torpedos is 1000 Steel and 250 High Grade Polymetric Radioactive. 15 packs of Proton III Torpedos will eat the resources of a single heavy harvester is capable of producing daily on an 80% concentration of steel. When making 15 consumables will require the daily output of the best harvester in the game, buying resources is the only option for many shipwrights. An option that incurs a cost to have a Shipwright business. So 'greed' isn't the only motivator behind prices.

And honestly, if a person doesn't like 1 shipwright's prices complaining about it is the least effective option there is. I can almost guarantee someone on that person's server has a lower price. Usually contacting a Shipwright found via the profession search will generate someone willing to beat the price.

Actually, it's not possible for many shipwrights to charge 5 cpu. See above for why. Only recently have I been able to find any quantities of steel or low grade ore for under 5 cpu. And we're talking about grind quality here, not high quality.

And the economy isn't really messed up when a casual player at tier 4 can generate about 150k by doing 1 hours worth of a duty mission. My X-Wing is fitted with components usuable by Tier 4. And a Tier 4 duty mission generates about 300k in wave rewards, credit chips and components in a 2 hour period. With that type of income easily availible, the economy can support a suit of composite for 400k.

X-Rebel, just out of curiosity, how exactly do Shipwrights pass off looted items as RE'd items to take advantage of you? And what would be the advantage to them? Most Shipwrights I know actually buy a grip of looted items in their maddening & insane quest for Firespray fragments...

And, for the record, greed is an anachronistic and out of place concept inthe SWGeconomy. In point of fact, in any capitalistic economic system, the system itself depends heavily on all involved parties acting towards their own best interest (crafters, vendors, consumers, etc). Keeps the system dynamic and thriving.

Hhaha they come out of the woodwork like rabid chipmonks;

1.) Im not paying your way to master SW. I dont care how much you put into mastering a profession, that is NOT my problem. My problem is the part or ship in question that i want to purchase, not how much you want to make up for whatever it is you lost in grinding skill boxes. Take your problems out on my credits in bank and we don't do buisness, plain and simple.

2.) Everyone knows chasis/parts cost resources. But theres a big difference between

2A.) the SW who says, 750K for a 235K mass ship and 1 mill for a 240K mass ship

and

2B.) the SW who says, all ships , 5 CPU, no chassis is undermassed. 240K ship for 760K. thats fair in my book.

The problem with SW's in general is theres some good ones, and then theres a whole lot of bad ones that give the profession a bad name, and its all to easy to paint the whole profession with a big wide brush.

Final thought:
If your running a shop, a buisness, theres an old saying, "the customer is always right". Not every pilot is going to kiss your feet and beg you to make them something. Its a free and compedative market, and if i feel your trying to stiff me, ill take my buisness elswhere. Word of mouth goes a long way, and when other pilots ask me for " a good SW", i have datapad with a few waypoints that i email them. Im pretty sure they do the same.

Taking advantage of is a little harsh of a word sry. If i dont want to spend the money i wont no one has a gun to my head to make me lol

i have played in space to know what drops generaly in the teir1 to tier5 band YES i know i havent seen them all but i have seen alot even on the bazzar. Their arepeople selling looted items mixed in with re'd stuff and even stuff that has been used up to the point of almost being worthless due to decay and so on. Then try to sell them for same as or more that the re'd stuff. thats is what i ment. NO i dont have a all knowing ablity to know what is looted and what is not but i know what is Cr@p and what isnt. Then the people sell the stuff at the same cost. To me its like selling dirt for gold prices.

lol I have spent many a night going to all the vendors that list that they are selling ship stuff. So i can find that perfect item to put in my ship like so many others. This all can be avioded if everyone in the economy can get right with prices. I know marginal profit is better than no profit. To be even more honest i rather be playing the Game than haveing to hunt down a bargin.

lol like like what he said too lol

Ducimus,

I agree in most part to your statment. Especially the not paying for getting master. Pretty much the reason i mentioned that is how much it takes is a big investment. If you look though at one previous post were a person compaired what a Armorsmith charges CPU compaired to the average of what SW's charge, you will see that even if they charged a million credits for the ship, they are still below price averages most other proffessions charge. The poor architects ruined their market. look at Doctors for example, if meat brokers werent offering 120cpu for meat to engourage people to hunt, buffs would be alot cheaper. My point is, its alot easier to point out somone is ripping you off when you never attempted to do it yourself. Like you said after a while you get a list of SW's you will visit, as you should. After all only impatient people will pay millions for something when if you look a little longer you will find it cheaper.
