All around, what is the best missile for a fighter? large ship? Does anyone know a good vendor location for these?

image rec 2/proton 3 for light quick damage proton 4's for one hit kills

i want the missle that the USAF had during the cold war, basicly it was a nuclear warhead for the sole purpose of air to air mass destruction. ment to wipe out the huge waves of soviet bombers and migs.

I believe the term for that would be EP3...but at the scale you describe, it'd be like EP10

I think you might be referring to the MB-1 Genie.

It had a 1.5Kt warhead.

hey now theres an idea, Elite Missles for POBs. let them carry Genies!

I bet the lag from the blast animation might crash every machine in the system, but it'd be cool to see it take out a Star Destroyer.

All round best missile will be a proton,you will find them poor though against gunboats.Mk3 or MK4 will give you an ok punch on your ship.For pvp go with IR 2's,vettes Mk3 conc's and gunboats i load Mk2 space bombs.If you know what you are gonna be facing before you fly it's a big helpwhen choosing what missile to carry.

is it correct if i say that the image rec missiles have a faster lock and launch rate ?
if so, does that mean that those missiles are more suitable for pvp ?


and if you fire a proton (evenly splitted values on armor/shield damage), will both the shields and armor get damaged at the same time, when you fire one proton ?
or will the shields go down first, and then the armor ?

in my experiences nothing beats the mk4 protons, they dont do as much dmg as spacebombs, but where i can carry all of 4 or so SB's on my yt-1300, i can carry over 20 mk4 protons (and 2 protons generally do as much dmg as a single sb). In the case of the corvette, sure i may have to fire 2 protons at each target, but at least i dont have to reload my launchers halfway into the battle, and ill still have some leftover if i decide to use some against a fighter or something. But this advice iguess is only if you got enough space in your ship to carry a mk4 proton launcher

or will the shields go down first, and then the armor ? YES. Works like it would if you were shooting it with a blaster. So any excess damage that isn't absorbed by shields will be absorbed by armor. And then any damage no absorbed by armor will be absorbed by chassis and sub components.

As with every other aspect of the pilot profession (and the game in general) it depends on how you prefer to fight. I'm more of a hevy fighter guy, so I prefer some heavy **edit**, that'll blow my adversaries into oblivion with a single or two hits. Other, more flimsy pilots, might prefer lighter but faster missiles...
