Thread: Shut Down the Shuttle System and Help Freelance Pilots

It would be nice if there was actually a use for Freelance Pilots/Smuggler Pilots. As long as people can freely travel between any planet/sysystem, the freelance pilots are essentially out of a job. I think they should shut down part of the shuttle system and allow Freelance pilots to charge a price for transporting people/cargo between planets. Now in return, if the freelance pilot does not complete the mission as agreed upon, it might be a good time to have a BH come and try to visit him for not fulfilling the contract.

They need to do something with this profession to keep it alive. We have the largest ships with the most possible room. Any thoughts?

Not sure you could make it work. Almost every new player has JTLS. You can get a free noob shipyou can travel with from any pilot trainer.

Well yeah, but turning off "travel" to certain worlds would be a part of that.

Personally, I think it would be great if they shut down Endor travel and made the space lanes heavily patrolled. Simple way to lock it in to Smugglers and POB pilots that successfully get past the blockades would be to simply have the station refuse to land anyone that can't fool them into thinking they have legitimate business.

I also remember being told by a friend that Corellia itself closed off access at one point during the GCW. I think it would be great to have Blockade running, or add Centerpoint station and only grant ground access that way.

Kashyyyk got the ball rolling, and I hope they actually do something with it. It wouldn't be a terrible burden if they found a way to make the process fun and engaging.

PS- limiting it to Freelance pilots would be unfair in the extreme, but having a balanced system where each group has to jump through different hoops would be acceptable.

And the BH thing is making it "do the role we assign you or else", and I'd expect most people to drop Freelancer immediately.

They don't have to shut it down the shuttle really...just make it a little bit more expensive.

As for the travel option, they could modify it so it generates an "instanced" space run in which the traveller(s) (if in a POB ship) can get attacked by pirates and/or inspected by imprial or rebel forces. That way it maybe a time sink but it would be a fun so something sink.

On a side note: I believe they still have to change the mechanics of the hyperout to going to an randomly generated point instead of a waiting out the timer. Again this removes the time sink and puts in a do something sink.

I don't know about permanently but blockage running players to Dant or something would be a fantastic Live event

If the shuttle system was turned off along with direct travel, then what are the accounts with out JTL suppose to do? They cannot be passengers on ships so they would be stuck on what ever was on.
That makes this suggestion kind of counterproductive does it not?

Can't they be passengers on POB ships? I think they just can't sit any stations or look outside...

Also don't forget that you can travel in between planets using your own ship without even entering space, just like the terminals/ticket collectors allow. On the ship selection screen there is a botton marked travel. This will teleport you to the spaceport of your choice.

In order to be on a POB ship (passenger or pilot), you must be JTL enabled.

Obviously, if such a change were to be put in, they would change the coding to simply not allow you to man a station in a POB ship. The code is already there, more or less. It would simply check a flag, much like the "not in your group" message we already see sometimes.
