Im gonna use a RL example of what goes into the design and build of a better craft to do a specific task.

Bomber/strike aircraft.

In the 60'sSurface to Air Missiles (SAM's)became a serious problem for the high flying subsonic bombers of the era so a new solution was required to overcome this threat.

In the US they got there heads down and designed a new kind of bomber.

The design incorporated many novel ideas but the prime assets of the package were high speed low level penetration of hostile airspace.

At that time most interceptor's could not live at low level being primarily designed for high altitude interception so in essence the bomber could outpace them at low level.

Hence the F-111 was born, a high speed Mach 1.2 at low level stike bomber capable of penetrating the hostile airspace of the then USSR.

Now lets apply some of this kind of design principles to the B-wing.

1) Does it outperfom the Y-wing.

NO

2) Does it have a significant speed advantage over hostile interceptors

NO

3) Is it capable of penetrating to the target.

NO

Lets go back to History for a second.

1) Does an F-111 outperfom a B-52

On Speed and Manouverabilty

YES

2) Did the F-111 have a speed advantage over the Interceptors of the day.

YES

3) Was it capable of penetrating the target.

YES

In my opinion the B-wing is completely useless in this game.

It does not offer any significant advantage over the Y-wing.

It is clearly the worst Master Pilot Ship (have only seen one guy flying one in space so far)

I do not believe the Rebel's would ever put such an inferior design into production.

Things that need fixed.

1) Speed needs to be seriously ramped up to a par of the opposition interceptors.

2) Manouverability should be about X-wing.

3) No more cross controls at high speed. ie. pitch up and it pitch's down.

Please make the B-wing a worthy addition to the Rebel fleet.

I would appreciate your support in this petition, as I would like to fly the rebels premier strike craft.

Agree totally.

The B-Wing was one of those projects that never should have seen the light of day. Rather like the Sinclair C5 electric trike.Nobody wanted to be the one to tell Admiral Ackbar it was a turkey.

B-Wings have a history of technical faults, the cockpit environmental controls fail, the guns don't syncronize and the s-foilsseldomwork. If you get an engine that actually WORKS the center of mass is so far from it the whole ship wallows around in it's own self pity.

It's worth noting that Admiral Ackbar is the largest shareholder of the company that was awarded the contract to build the B-Wing, a companywhich also has strong links tothe board of directors of the holo-net media company which broke the story of the lone B-Wing assault on the Imperial TIE shipyard. Thus a legend was born, although the few living eyewitnesses would tell a very different story of that assault. You know it's all true.

The whole Ackbar thing smells fishy to me.

I think the Y-wing is more akin to the F-111, it started life as a multi-role fighter, and according to cannon sources when the x-wing came out was relegated to more of a support/bomber role, much like the F-111 and now the F-15 as the F-22 comes into service. The B-wing is a hard case in the game, it is supposed to be the latest fighter-bomber the alliance has, it is a master ship, but it isn't a snub fighter. Large mass means more firepower, more firepower means less manuverability.....How do you balance this out? Personally I think it should handle smack dab in the middle between the X-wing and the Y-wing, have more mass than a Y-wing, and be as fast as an X-wing. This way there is reason to fly it, you get more mass and better handling than a Y-wing, but you pay for that with less handling than an X-wing. I think it should be more like the Oppressor, it handles better than the Bomber, not as good as an Advanced, but it has 3X the mass of an advanced at the same speed. Imperial ships (IMHO) have a very nice ballance to them, allout dogfighting take an Interceptor, all out firepower take the Oppressor, ballance take the Adavanced. From what I've seen the rebels hace 2/3 of this so far, A-wing is the scrappy dogfighter, X-wing is the all around guy, and ... well where is that last part? The B-wing's bad handling/low speedjust make it not worth taking to most pilots. I hope they fix it for you

Yes the B-wing handles like "a pig with a rocket strapped on its back" (don't remeber who said that lol). But at 240K+ mass and having 4 guns and 2 missles if would be too powerfull to make handle like an X-wing. The Krayt (a great ship FYI) would be a decent benchmark for what you are thinking about. But to come in line with that you should also think about dropping 30K mass, 1 weapon (thinking from a single player in the ship perspective), and 1 missle launcher. Or look at the Oppressor, drop 70K mass delete 1 gun and swap 1 gun for a missle.

The B-Wing is definatley not a ship for all pilots, it takes a lot of relearning to even figure out, but it does have a ton of weapon and missle slots and the mass to be able to load them up with all Advanced Blasters and MK2 Space Bombs and still have room left over for a RE'd Lvl 10 engine, huge Cap, shields etc. No other ship has that (not includingthe YT/Nova/Decimator for the moment).

Actually I was wondering if the B-Wing is as useless for players to use as the ones you fight in PvE. Even the Pirate kimos give a better challenge. B-wings are the favorite prey of people trying to level up just because of the big chunk of Exp they give and how easily they blow up. I am a maser freelance and I am all up for improving this ship.

Just a little correction, the Krayt also has 4 guns. 3 for the pilot and 1 for the turret person.

It should be equivalent to the Firespray in terms of performance. But right now it's a flying brick *sigh*

The B-wing was developed to tackle capital ships. It is not a fighter. Nor should it handle like one. When you see bwings on screen or read about them in booksthey have fighter escorts. Their whole purpose is to bring the firepower of a capital ship in a small cheap package. Heck even in the books they disappeared quickly probably due to not being that interesting. The last reference to one I can remember even had Ackbar himself crashing one.

They look cool and have lots of fire power, they would be small and hard to hit with turbo lasers but vulnerable to fighters. Sounds like the Devs implemented them well. Of course I can say this without being upset because I did not Choose to go rebel.Having both the Awing and Xwing the rebels do not have a lot to complain about.

Good point, I should have clairified my thoughts better. I was thinking from a "single pilot" in ship point of view, as I would guess for a good portion of the players that is how the Krayt is flow most of the time...

Corrected above to add...

very true but when you automatically jump to them not being fighters you are making assumptions.

I've read basically every starwars novel and play a fair amt of the games I'm a bit of a closet geek.

In every instance I remember reference to the B wing out preforms the Y wing in EVERY capacity now to apply this to an in game balance I'd honestly put it right about the Y wing stats for controls but tweak the PYR up to near the 70-100 area this is not that good from a PvP perspective and not spectacular from a PvE either but makes it usable since it's a 40-100% gain on current profile.

I'd reccommend closer to the 80 point leaving it bit behind oppressor in spd/manueverability being .85/80/80 vs Opp's .9/100/100 justifying the additional mass.

this should be easily implemented from my knowledge of programming sine it's only a one profile tweak

sidenote - TIE bobmer should be on par with Ywing irregardless of mass if you following SW canon, no one complains cause it's only a lower tier ship

The Bwing is a heavy fighter bomber.... it should be slow... it should handle like lame sloth.... its up side is it should be armed to the teeth... which it is.

All things considered for JTL specifically the Bwing needs to be balanced better. I am all for improving handling and speed, but I dont think it should be balanced with interceptors like the Xwing.

You are not supposed to go dog fighting with a Bwing... but you should take it out for going for gunboats... corvettes... or star destroyers.
