for continuity, or at least previous SW space sims, the B-wing is faster and more maneuverable than a Y-wing...

now in jtl making it handle better than a Y-wing will probably make it overpowered, but as it is now is quite underpoweredcomparing itto other heavy ships, expecially with krayt.

is it true that the B-wing can carry 4 weapons, 2 missiles and have a nice profile, but also we must consider that it's weapon allocation is not very good and most of the time it can hit with 3 weapons at best.

for these reasons i think that a boost in maneuverability is quite needed for this ship, i don't say to make it like an X-wing, but to make it fly like an Y-wing LP

Yes, the B-wing is a bomber. No, its not supposed to be a dogfighter. I agree with this. But I still think it needs to be more maneuverable than it is. Even the multiplayer ships can run circles around this thing!

I do understand that with the way JtL game mechanics impact the performance of the different ships, it would make the B-wing far too powerful a ship if it were to be between the Y- and X-wing in speed and maneuverability, like it is in other games and stories. However, this thing really is a pig. You can boost it's maneuverability quite a bit and still leave it worse than the LP, and not break game balance.

And here's a non-scientific way of illustrating why the B-wing needs at least a small boost. Do Imperial pilots generally look forward to getting their hands on an Oppressor? Yes. Are Freelancers exited about when they can jump into a Krayt? You bet. Are Rebels happy when they get to fly the B-wing? ...Not so much. I do love mine very much, but its mostly because of the high "cool factor" that it carries.

LOL ya and it accelerated so slow I use my booster to hit top speed quick.

I think a change from:

[Spdx 0.85(Foils Closed) 0.80 (Foils Open) Acc 10 Dec 15 Pitch 50 Yaw 50 Roll 25]

To something like

[Spdx 0.85(Foils Closed) 0.80 (Foils Open) Acc 15 Dec20 Pitch 60 Yaw 60 Roll 30]

Y-wing LP for compairison....

[Spdx 0.85 Acc 10 Dec 20 Pitch 70 Yaw 70 Roll 35]

Not a huge change or anything like the X-wing but enought to put the pig on a diet lol. Some of the cross controls might be related to the same bug that FOB ships have had the invered after-booster effect. It might have something to do with real pig-like handling ship. So when that is fixed it may fix the B-wing too.

I wasnt aware of the exact stats of the ships... but if a Bwing is truely that much less maneuverable then I am really in agreement that the Bwing needs a buff.

Somewhere between a Ywing LP and an Xwing is where I would guess is a good place for it to be. GIven those stats alone I almost think that the LP should be the master ship and the Bwing inside the tiers somewhere.

Yeah I think that would be perfect. Still not very maneuverable, but maneuverable enough to work with.

Those from the pilot FAQ's (I "borrowed" them) FYI

I think it needs to be just a little shy of the Y-LP because it does have the most mass of a non-FOB ship at 240K and 4 gun hardpoints and 2 missle slots.

If you look thru the Pilot FAQ's you will find that more or less the best hadling ships are in the lower tiers, 1-3, but have a considerable less ammount of mass. Now forget the entry ships, those have like perfect stats but 0 mass.

I am starting to wonder (after looking at stats)if the "reversed controls" bug has more to do with the really bad handling ships then just the FOB ships, because the B-wing is not too much worse off then the y-LP

Stop whining, you Rebs got it easy. Your best 2 fighters, the X-wing and A-wing are available to you BEFORE you master. Every faction has its heavy bomber with massive firepower, you just get it later.

And I don't see the connection your example of RL aircraftto SWG. The B-52 is a bomber and perfored it's role as a bomber magnificently. The F-111, by all accounts, was a failure. It was designed as a multi-role fighter... and the "fighter" is something that it never lived up to.

The B-wing is a bomber. If you want the B-wing to be the equivelent of the F-111, then it should be a failure as a fighter and reduce it'sweapons load while you're at it.

P.S. I have Aced Imperial, flown freelance to 4/4/4/4, and am currently flying the X-wing. The X-wing, by far, is the coolest thing I've flow so far

The only thing that i have a problem with is the weapon spread. Bwings are useless mainly because you cannot hit anything except the star destroyer and gunboats with all4 weapons at once.

Make weapons auto adjust like in xvstie or increase the acceleration speed on the bwing to the point where you can actually fly it.

Hello,

In my opinion the b-wing does need to be fixed, but in different ways. I'm happy with the speed and manuverablity that it has now, but to fix the bwing i would recomend this;

1. keep speed manuverablity the same

2. increase mass (yes , i just said that!)

3. add 2 weapon hardpoints (yup i said that too)

4. allow use of gyro-stablization thingy (making the main wing rotate around the cockpit controled by player)

5. give the imps gunboats, carracks, dreadnaughts etc, so we can have an actual role.

i know to increase the mass would make lots of people angry but it would be the right way to do it, the bwing, in my opinion, should be like a small capital ship's firepower put into a fighter. The idea, i beleive, was that the rebs couldnt afford big ships so they made the bwing to counter the empires capital ships. So i would even go so far as to suggest thatimps and nuets should have more mop ships while the rebs instead have the bwing. i know this is unbalancing and will not likley happen, but this is just my dream scenario.

I just get very envious seeing the firepower of my mighty bwing put into an ugly ship like the krayt (thats right its ugly, unlike my purtty bwing) which even has more manuverability. yeah the krayt has 30 k less mass, big deal, at least it seems to be able to hit a target with more then one lasers.

but...since the stuff i listed likely wont happen then....

/sign

sure why not make it faster at least

IMHO, I think the B-Wing / F111 comparison is not the best one. Perhaps a better comparison, considering the blaster firepower, speed, manoverability and storeswould be the A10 or the Su25.

Anything in space (short of the ISD) that is bigger and slower is an easy lunch for the B-wing, but when a fighter/interceptor comes along, it has a serious disadvantage.

Some good points made here. The B-wing is an ungainly wench, "a pig with a rocket strapped on its back", on greased roller-skates. It takes a huge amount of patience to learn how to fly it, and even after "mastering" it's controls, if you let your concentration slip, you'll find yourself wallowing out of control. If you switch between that and an A-wing or an X-wing, there's the added readjustment time..

While I agree a ship that large should be more difficult to maneuver, the B-wing's current 'overhandling' is way the hell over the top.

"LOL ya and it accelerated so slow I use my booster to hit top speed quick."

This is basically a requirement..

"I agree with this. But I still think it needs to be more maneuverable than it is. Even the multiplayer ships can run circles around this thing!"

I was pretty upset when I first deeded my Nova, 2-3 weeks after "mastering" my B-wing, and discovering how well the Nova handles. There's almost no fishtailing or overrolling. While I disagree that the B-wing should be buffed up on par with the X-wing, it's entirely too sloppy as it is. I agree that something between the Y and the X would be fair. It is a master ship afterall. It should handle better than an MP.

For those of you who've never flown one, the B-wing will over swing more than 90deg in a turn if you are slightly overpowered when you come out of it, and are not already correcting your turn. From a full speed roll to "hands off", it will continue rotating almost another 180deg. Try that in your YT or Decimator and tell me how far it goes.
