Thread: Engine OverLoad 4?
Medium reactor (output >15k, mass <5k)
Best Booster
RE'd tier 4 reward engine
No weaps
No armor
Shield
Giant capacitor
Then use Reactor overload 4 if necessary with engine 4

??? that doesnt make much sense......
Race Ship: RE Booster with thehighest ((energy*top speed)/consumption rate) value, crafted engine with everything dumped to max speed (you wont need much PYR just for racing in space), you should be able to get 100+ if your SW is good, and since RO/EO4 does decay youd never use them with your reward items. Reactor with 14-15k power, tier 1 DI (prenerf if you can, if not then oh well, you should have time to load up programs before a race starts), tier 2-3 shields just to keep you safe from random NPCs. No weapons, no capacitor, no armor. RO4 and EO4 on your FC. EO4 will make your engine (and booster?) draw 10x as much reactor energy as usual, thats whats disabling everything

If something shoots you, you want to be able to dump power back into your shields fast. The inherent speed of your ship will allow you to outrun what's shooting you, but you'll want spare energy for that lucky hit.

EO4 takes a shedload of energy, so it sounds like your reactor's not able to keep up with the demand, leading to the disablement of your other parts. Are you running a Reactor Overload program as well?
Nope, no Reactor Overload program running, I only programed my flight computer to use the following:
-Engine Overload 2
-Engine Overload 3
-Engine Overload 4
Should I buy a Reactor Overload 4 chip for my Flight Computer?

Most certainly... I always run my Reactor Overload 3programsbefore anything else... especially before EO3 or EO4

Yeah, I ran Reactor Overload 4 before Engine Overload 3 and there is much better succes. Altough I activate Reactor Overload 4 before my Engine Overload 4, my Engine Overload 4 still disables my boosters and gives me the same base speed as the Engine Overload 3. Its wierd, its like its all around worse or something.

This actually sounds like your engine's armour/HP values are quite low. When you run your overload, it's damaging your engine. Once your engine suffers a certain amount of damage after your armour is taken out (the armour on the engine, not any forward/rear armour) the performance degrades. Unfortunatly, there's nothing you can do short of buying a new engine, if this is the case.
Why?
Whenever you run an overload, especially overload four, it causes physical damage to your engine. If you choose to repair it at a space station, or use a repair kit on the ground, your engine decays 1 point for every 10 points healed. Eventually, you're not going to have many armour/hitpoints left. However, your overload command is doing the same damage as before. If you don't have the armour/HP to 'soak' up this damage, it starts hurting your component.
That's why, if you're an ace, jumping in and out of Deepspace is invaluable...free, no-decay repair
