So I'm doing the Heavy Xwing quest, Im getting really close to being done, ive done all the escort mission, even disabled the corvette myself (3/4/3/3) and now i have to escort it back to the rebel outpost. Im getting tier 3 and tier 4 ships spawning on the escort part, and im handling them all perfectly fine. Then one of the last spawns, about 2k away from the reb station, it spawns a Tier5 gunboat. Theres no chance in hell i can kill this thing. Ive never even fought one before. They move as fast as a starfighter and have about a billion turrets.

/sigh

Looks like ill not be getting this Heavy X wing anytime soon. Im also stuck on the mission to train my next box, even though i got the 3 million needed exp left. Bah!

Well yes and no, you'r thinking of the usual gunboats, the one in this mission goes nearly 1k speed, manuevers like an X-wing, and attacks you like those swarms of droid fighters. There is no blind spot because it's nose is allways on your tail.

Best thing to do is either wait till toward the end before disabling the vette, or leave it's guns intact when you disable it, then simply run around trailing that gunboat till the vette jumps, it should be able to handle itself.

Best way to do this one is to ally yourself with a couple of aces and let the do the hard part (the assault gunboats). If you can't find any aces willing to help, get a couple of friends to tool up their ships so they run at least 1100 max speed. Then they can lure the gunboats away from the vette by pounding it a little, make it follow them, get about 1K ahead of it, and then "matchspeed." And all the while you can sit back and have fun with the tier 5 fighters

Be careful not to shoot the gunboats - if you don't hit them they won't aggro you and will just go after the vette.

After the vette has left though they will turn their attention to you so get out of there quick of you don't want to deal with them. Unfortunately they continue to hang around the rebel outpost so if you don't take them out you could upset someone else by leaving them there.

Yeah, I think the point is to just last long enough for the corvette to reach the station. When I did this mission I couldn't take the gunboats solo, and ended up hypering to the first kashyyyk sector to escape. The instant my hyperspace was done the mission succeeded. Either the corvette had gotten close enough to the station at that moment or it was a bug. Either way, if all else fails give this a try.

This mission is realy easy for one solo player.

- first kill the escort

- second go after the corvette (blind spot - dont destroy the weapons)

- then target and destroy (with Torpedos) the Shields

- now you can destroy the engine (stay at the blind spot until the corvette is captured).

- now you have a full operable corvette and that helps mutch.

If you starts your attack to the corvette 6000m far from the rebel station, there will no gunboats spawn.

And if all else fails, IFF scramble is your friend. And as other have said, let the gunboat charge the corvette. Apparently, they don't know about the blind spot it has.

I tried waiting til 6k from the station but the vette then hypered out before I could disable it. Yeah,I could have been hitting it faster maybe, but not by much. The point is that at 6k you don't have much time to fart around, get it disabled fast.

On my own success I disabled the vette farther out and had to deal with gunboats as we approached the station. Made a run at the first one becauseI really didn't want it to pound the vette now that I was finally close to completing this missionsoI got pounded instead. Made another run at it and was seriously damaged. EJECT! EJECT! On instinct I ran for the station trailing three gunboats (the other ones showed up, yay) and half a dozen fighters. The nearly ignored vette reached it's hyper point and I got the success message....just before blowing up in spectacular fashion. Was quite proud of myself until I flew back to the station ASAP and found the gunboats still there and still pissed at me. Blew me up again cause I wasn't paying attention...oops.

No matter, I got my heavy Xwing. WooHoo!

I've completed this twice, once neutral and once rebel, and recommend leaving the weapons in-tact. In both cases I took out weapon 5 and then picked the shields adn engine apart. Even if farther out, like 8000m, the corvette can take care of it-self. I just spent my time staying alive and dodging the gunboats. Didn't even try to kill them just stayed alive. Worked both times.
