I might have one other option open to me that doesn't involve a Clone junker, but its going to take a few days to put together. We'll see how it goes.
Welcome to Starsider grade veteran pilots. I could probably count of ten pilots on Starsider who fly Actis' (counting both factions) who are like this. I urge you to become accustomed to Front shield adjust heavy, it is great for 1v1 battles and to be honest I find it essential because relics will probably have a way higher fire rate, thus higher chance of hitting you if they're sprayign and praying and if a combination of two weapons hit you square on...usually it is fatal.. Halyn and I had another duel the other day andwe exchanged quite a few blowsbut in the end (after a long time...hehe in the end our hands were aching) I managed to fry him.
Yep, there is no doubt about it that even a fully tricked out A-wing is outclassed by a fully tricked out Actis, but believe me, piloting skills go a hell of a lot further. I've surprised a lot of Starsider residents with that sentiment and apparently these guys are 'the best' so if that is the case and I'm not going to dispute that but what it does allow me to say is that the A-wing remains competitive regardless of unbalanced ships.
I really wish they'd make a Deepspace zone which was useable by any pilot from any server actually. I'd really like to fly wing with some of these people from different servers including you Janu.
You're using a lvl 6 engine aren't you too? I suggest upgrading to a lvl 8 when you can. It is surprising just how much further you can push the A-wing with a slightly better engine and that is essential since with the ship there is a fine line between great, smooth handling and what I fondly call 'operation brick mode' which seems to be anywhere below 55% throttle.
Don't fall to the Relic side of the force though. A-wings work fine...even when it is a lone A-wing against superior odds of superior ships it can be done. It took me a fair bit of crashing and burning to realise how to adapt but it is possible. As for suggestions on how you could 'improve your flying' I'm not going to touch that one..I mean, different things work for different people.
Good luck whatever path you choose.

I've met a handful of pilots like this on different servers - really good pilots who don't mind using the relics, and the fact that they're already good makes them flat out deadly. I don't blame them, pre-RotW I was torn between going rebel for the A-Wing or Imperial for the Advanced because I wanted the "best" for my flying style.
I um, just accept they'll usually beat me, and have fun flying. I'm not jumping in an Actis, not yet anyway, and I'd rather get vaped in a few good dogfights first.
He said he was going to ask you for a duel after he fought me last night, Janu. He's frighteningly good in that JSF. You are correct on his gun load out, a pair of speed 7s.
This pilot sent me a tell last night, said he had been refered to me and wanted a few duels. His general attitude came across as a very eager individual looking for more experience and instructors, not sure what I could teach him but I needed the PvP practice. We had 3 duels. First one I had shield front moderate; I fired a single IR2 at him on approach, while it did a good number on his shields the damage was low enough to not scratch his armor but the lesson was learned "Load a CM". About a minute later and a few Cap-shunts, he sent my Firespray to Endor with heavy damage to both front and back. Second duel he hugged the ISD as a shield against missile lock (we're both imperial) but my goal was to give him a gunbattle, cutting speed to 50% I could keep his JSF in my sights but watching his ship slide through th middle of the 4 bolt pattern was scary, anda few cap shunts later Iwas once again looking atEndor. I'd like to blame the lag from the shield flashes of our shots against the ISD, but even in open space it would takea lot of luck to land a shotwith aFirespray on that exceptional of a JSF pilot. Third battle, I surprised him in my own JSF, and that one went a whole lot longer. Wish my Advanced was ready for fighting just to show him how well one of those can fair, but I'm still modding it.
The guy is one awesome pilot, and Kettemoor's Imperials are glad to have him on our side. Those looking for his name, feel free to troll the Kettemoor forums. ![]()

I am totally curious how your Advanced turns out, mines purring pretty good, but I never got a Protecto Net, on either of my Toons. So far the best I could load it out is with the Engine you built for me, level 7, a RE'd Level 6 Sheild, and the 2 Level 7 Blasters I got from you also

Reporting from the old me.
Yeah, the thought now is the QID. I'm not sure where the hell I'm going to get the 14-15k mass from, that's definitely throwing the Tri-Cannon out the window in favor of a WO4'd L5, which is going to hurt like heck. I do not want to give up the L7 shield, the step down to an L5 would be lethal considering the damage I'd have to absorb, even with the forward overloads. I'm basically looking at downgrading to Level1 armor, which hurts, because with the low damage multipliers, my Type III forward armor took an unshielded direct hit with plating to spare. I'm already running with no rear armor. Another option is to yank the booster, since it serves no combat purpose, and maybe dropping to an L2 Capacitor, which will hurt when it comes to CapShunting.
With the X-Wing, I was trying for an IR II lock, but I couldn't get the shot off in the nanosecond it would take him to slip out of it. Even then, if Mardius had him packing Chaff, so much for that idea.

The alternative I was considering wasn't aClone Relic, but the Heavy Z-95.It wouldn't take me long to get my hands on the Iron Asteroid needed for the job (I've got a 30k stack of the Carbonaceous already), and I always liked how they handled. I flew one until I certed the X-Wing, and never used armor after I Initiate.
/ponder... little run in with the mod-natives on the other account?
The YPR jump from a 6 to an 8 is becoming a requirement as more and more people find ways to pack them in, I'd recommend a step beyond for a L10 for the added jump.. What about a L6 shield? I've seen some very nice ones out there, but it does take alot of loot wh0ring I think to get one right.
I'd be wary of Leaph's suggestion of the Heavy Front shield adjust, somehow with some freakish sliding I landed a few shots on his rear when he was positive we were head to head, and I think its only a matter ofpractice before he figures out how to do on purpose what I did by accident.

Long story, but you actually saw it here on another thread.
In any event, I am extremely learing of shield adjusts, especially in the light of your new protege` smacking my A-Wing on the ass last night. Talk about your wake up calls.
Problem with the L10. Its 42600 mass, my A-Wing is 66100. That ain't a lot of breating room.

Same here. I'm also trying to outfit an Advanced on Kettemoor, but it's slow going. I have a Protecto-Net that will top 2k in the front, but the rear will only be about 1700, so I'll have 1850 f/b whenit averages out. Not good enough, IMO. I also need better Yaw and Roll on my L8 engine (and wouldn't mind a better QID. My best right now has 91.5 speed pre-RE).
I'm actually thinking about approaching weapons in a slightly different way. I want to see if it's feasible to start using WO4 instead of WO2, so I'm considering running one weapon instead of two. I'm thinking that a good Borstel RE would work because the EPS on them is so low, and I can get good damage out of it. It's either that, or a Boltdriver RE for speed (but the higher EPS will hurt when running WO4.
Thoughts?
