Yeah, the thought now is the QID. I'm not sure where the hell I'm going to get the 14-15k mass from, that's definitely throwing the Tri-Cannon out the window in favor of a WO4'd L5, which is going to hurt like heck. I do not want to give up the L7 shield, the step down to an L5 would be lethal considering the damage I'd have to absorb, even with the forward overloads. I'm basically looking at downgrading to Level1 armor, which hurts, because with the low damage multipliers, my Type III forward armor took an unshielded direct hit with plating to spare. I'm already running with no rear armor. Another option is to yank the booster, since it serves no combat purpose, and maybe dropping to an L2 Capacitor, which will hurt when it comes to CapShunting.

With the X-Wing, I was trying for an IR II lock, but I couldn't get the shot off in the nanosecond it would take him to slip out of it. Even then, if Mardius had him packing Chaff, so much for that idea.

The alternative I was considering wasn't aClone Relic, but the Heavy Z-95.It wouldn't take me long to get my hands on the Iron Asteroid needed for the job (I've got a 30k stack of the Carbonaceous already), and I always liked how they handled. I flew one until I certed the X-Wing, and never used armor after I Initiate.

Switching to an L2 Capacitor won't hurt for capshunting much at all, as far as I can tell. I've got an L2 with 1100 energy and about 40 recharge, and the best L4 I have right now has less energy and a recharge that is only slightly better. I don't really see the trade-off being a problem, unless your L4 is way better than mine.

Janu, yeah the A-wing doesn't have room for the L10 (and neither does an Advanced ), but the Heavy Z does, and I place my advantage over him in our third duel squarely on the L10 engine that powers my ship. Also, I don't think a L2 capacitor will hurt your shunt too much as long as you stay as nimble and hard to hit as your opponent; I'm running on a crafted mark I in small fighers, it takes a couple shunts to get to full but as long as I don't break stride to do it she works.

MZ, FalinMor, wish I could tell you want isgoing into my Advanced, but its just not there yet. I'm hoping I can get my QID and my new Protecto-net light enough that I can swap them for my L10 and current Protecto-net and fit the rest of my JSF loadout into the Advanced. But I need alot lighter RE 8 engine and RE 7 shields then I currently have, and I think even then I may be 2 - 3K heavy. Odds are if that's the case, I may be down grading my dual L6 guns for a L6/ L5 combo or dual L5s, which means I need to build a nice L5 or two (mainly cause mine are all blue on Larikuj and I'd like green for Mard's TIEs ). If / When I get it finished, I might do a Project Advanced thread if I think it works great enough. The QID is also being put off because I really want a faster QID then the half dozen I've gotten my hands on so far.

What do you think about opting for a Borstel RE instead of two smaller guns? I know damage and ROF will be lower, but the extremely low EPS of a Borstel will make using WO4 a possibility, which will be a huge upgrade from WO2.

I also considered coupling a L5 with a Boltdriver RE. That would give me good damage, fast ROF, and shave a few k mass off the Borstel route, but it would double the drain and be total hell on the capacitor. I think if I did that I'd have to stick to WO2 and possibly upgrade to a heavier Capacitor.

I know one thing I'm gonna do is remove my nice L4 RE Booster and toss on a L1 crafted just for quick bursts of speed. I'll miss the long burns, but it'll really help with mass.

This is what I love about being Imp. I am completely in love with my Advanced, and trying to figure out a good loadout is fun.

Welcome to Starsider grade veteran pilots. I could probably count of ten pilots on Starsider who fly Actis' (counting both factions) who are like this. I urge you to become accustomed to Front shield adjust heavy, it is great for 1v1 battles and to be honest I find it essential because relics will probably have a way higher fire rate, thus higher chance of hitting you if they're sprayign and praying and if a combination of two weapons hit you square on...usually it is fatal.. Halyn and I had another duel the other day andwe exchanged quite a few blowsbut in the end (after a long time...hehe in the end our hands were aching) I managed to fry him.

Yep, there is no doubt about it that even a fully tricked out A-wing is outclassed by a fully tricked out Actis, but believe me, piloting skills go a hell of a lot further. I've surprised a lot of Starsider residents with that sentiment and apparently these guys are 'the best' so if that is the case and I'm not going to dispute that but what it does allow me to say is that the A-wing remains competitive regardless of unbalanced ships.

I really wish they'd make a Deepspace zone which was useable by any pilot from any server actually. I'd really like to fly wing with some of these people from different servers including you Janu.

You're using a lvl 6 engine aren't you too? I suggest upgrading to a lvl 8 when you can. It is surprising just how much further you can push the A-wing with a slightly better engine and that is essential since with the ship there is a fine line between great, smooth handling and what I fondly call 'operation brick mode' which seems to be anywhere below 55% throttle.

Don't fall to the Relic side of the force though. A-wings work fine...even when it is a lone A-wing against superior odds of superior ships it can be done. It took me a fair bit of crashing and burning to realise how to adapt but it is possible. As for suggestions on how you could 'improve your flying' I'm not going to touch that one..I mean, different things work for different people.

Good luck whatever path you choose.

The YPR jump from a 6 to an 8 is becoming a requirement as more and more people find ways to pack them in, I'd recommend a step beyond for a L10 for the added jump.. What about a L6 shield? I've seen some very nice ones out there, but it does take alot of loot wh0ring I think to get one right.

I'd be wary of Leaph's suggestion of the Heavy Front shield adjust, somehow with some freakish sliding I landed a few shots on his rear when he was positive we were head to head, and I think its only a matter ofpractice before he figures out how to do on purpose what I did by accident.

Out of interest who are you? I apologise but my memory is like a..well not amazing.Yeh, you occasionally get taken from behind nastily when using Shield adjust but for the most part..an A-wing is always facing it's target. Even with missiles, most hits from missiles I get are to my front shielding. I've dueled you on Starsider? Or are you talking about someone else. One place I never use front adjust is when I have mutliple targets.

As for WO4, only ship I've built that could handle the power draw to -O4 programs is my Deci.

Loading out a ship is the funnest part of being a pilot I think, followed by testing the design.

Yeah, I re-did the math, and it looks like 2 L5 RE's would serve me much better than a RE Boltdriver or Borstel. I've been doing the math and it looks like I can fit a Protecto RE, QID RE, a L2 Cap, a Mark II booster, a Chaff launcher, an Image Rec Mark I, one of my special DI's and 2 L5 weapons and still have a bit of room for some armor, provided I find relatively low-mass stuff to RE (some of which i already have). This is my new goal, starting tonight.

I assume you are making reference to this statement? I'm a strictly Kettemoor flyboy. That references the pilot both Janu and I dueled against last night.

Doh, silly me. But yes, someone on Starsider did take me out in one blow from behind when I was using front adjust on one occasion. Thought you were they.

It is a good command but you have to make guesses and take a few chances when you use it. Like..you have to pray that if they're using missiles they won't get one off at your rear etc. I like it on the A-wing because it is a ship which can more or less fly in a completely different vector to the one it is facing (oh apart from Backwards ...though that would be quirky).

Thats true, i suppose you can legitmatly play the blame game due to ship balance

Yeah, I like to use it on my Firespray, front adjust and head on against who ever and whatever. I gotta feeling that program isgoing to be a real life-saver next time I find myself diving at Janu's Nova with the POB changes coming.
