Thread: Painting my Jedi starfighter...what's these 'textures'?

Silly little topic I know...but it's been a little bit of a niggling issue for me that I couldn't paint my TIE's, not really a big deal, yeah I know the movies show them in the particular colors, but I felt a little like I'd bought a model T from Henry Ford: 'You can have them in any color you want, as long as it's black.' At any rate, now I at least think I can paint a ship I own, I wanna show my self-expression!

Assuming the Jedi (Actis? Forget the name) which I can finally fly is paintable, don't see why it wouldn't be, having no practice whatsoever with painting ships since I've always been an Imp pilot... I've two questions, really, first, will the standard ship painting kits I see everywhere work, or do I have to use some special ones? Two, what ARE these 'textures'? I see 'Starship texture kit style 1' and so forth all over the place, is there someplace online perhaps where I can take a look at 'em perhaps? I really don't want anything too fancy on the Jedi, just basically change it to a red and black if I can, those're my colors Thanks.

Textures are the painting patterns. Some have stripes, flames, patch work etc. Check the screenshots in the pilot FAQ. And yes, the JSF can be painted. Mine is purple .

The JSF can be painted, but you can't apply textures to it.

Thanks for that! Now I won't buy textures just to have 'em wasted.

...you can texture it. I did. I'm using a type 3 texture right now, but I'm going to try a different pattern soon.

I tried 5 and 6, and neither worked.

Interesting.

Hmm. Interesting. Maybe I'll just spend some cash, getting decent money from space mining now, buy one or two of each texture type that I like, see what works...

Some people have reported that certain textures don't work for them, others have reported that all the textures work.

I have found that textures sometimes work for me. I haven't been able to figure out when they do and when they don't. I'm not talking about the Eta-2 Actis Interceptor here, I'm talking about all ships.

I'm thinking it's a general texture/painting bug. I made several paint and texture kits the other night. Since I mothballed everything pre-CU, I have to repaint everything. I was unable to apply any paint or texture to my A-wing (which had nice colors before) also couldn't apply to a 2nd ship. (I've forgotten which now) I was able to paint & texture 2 of 4 chassis, all of which I'd painted before.

I'm using a blue and white paint scheme with texture #6. You get a blue starburst that's reminiscent of the Empire symbol.

Right now texture kits won't apply to any ship that is in slot 4-6 in your ship management screen. Sometimes when you log out and back in, their order switches around, and you may be able to put a texture on a ship that you couldn't before. Paint kits work on all 6 ship slots.

I have a Jedi starfighter with my Imperial pilot on Radiant, and also with my neutral pilot on Starsider (became Imp and dropped it after I got my fighter). I was able to apply all 6 texture kits to it and paint it. I also noticed that there seems to be unique patterns between the the different factions! My neutral pilot has a pattern that has 2 circle markings on the wings that I didn't get with my Imperial pilot.

I'll try to confirm this better when I get a chance to, but maybe someone else has noticed this.
