"I only got hit twice in PVP and died!!!! That is so unfair!!!!"
At the risk of getting some flamage I've got to say that I am sick and tired of all these cry baby pilots pissing and moaning about how they get shot down in one or two hits. For those of you who don't like JTL combat the way it is, here are a few helpful tips that may help you out....
A) Learn to fly
B) Get beter parts for your ship
C) Don't PVP in space
D) If you want to PVP in space see 'A' and 'B'
E) Stay on the ground
F) Play X-Wing vs. TIE
G) See 'A'
JTL is twitch based. That means you have to actually have some real life skill and can't hide behind your template or DoTs. ForceRun won't save you, buffs can't help you, Combat medics can't lay down poison. It's just Player vs. Player. Ship vs. Ship. Skill vs. Skill.
It's a simple fact that some people can fly well and others, no matter how hard they try, can't. Whining about how quick dogfights are won't change your poor piloting skills and obvious lack of situational awareness. For the sake of argument lets say the Devs cave in to the cry babies and make JTL combat last longer. Lets say they make it so I have to shoot you 10 times to kill you. If you can't fly as it is, making JTL "easier" won't change the fact that you can't fly. All it's going to do is give you more time to panic and try tojump out while you watch your shields and armor tick away.
Leave JTL combat alone. It's one of the few things in SWG that is perfect.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled whining. Flame on.

I agree, that PvP in space is a lot more right than wrong, but its not perfect.
I love it like it is, and the ony changes I want to see are ones that will expand the opportunities.
- Debug and adjust Droid Programs.
- Debug and adjust Pilot Specials.
- Find a solution to get MP ships into the game.

JTL pvp needs some tweaking. some very minor tweaking. but that is all. people need to stop crying and learn to fly. so far i've seen 3 camps. people who have tried pvp once or twice and have no idea what they are doing.people with alterior motives to requesting pvp be changed (they want to more easily grind faction) and people who pvp alot and geniunely think something needs to change.
everyone in the latter group has already read up on and is now supporting well thought out changes to the mechanics of the game.
everyone in the first group needs to realize that JTL will never, EVER, be the 20-40 shot PVP you expected. it's always going to be fast and brutal. once you've accepted that you can move on and start learning how to fly with this mechanic it's alot of fun, you just need to abandon the expectation of slow and plodding pvp, or sit tight until POB ships are viable and that produces roles for light and heavy fighters.
but really fixing WCO3 and POB ship problems will slience a bunch of people who cry about PVP.

MP Ships are deathtraps in PvP, thats right.
Otherwise I think its ok. I had a fight with an AWing yesterday (me flying a TIE Interceptor). We were dogfighting for about 2 or 3 minutes, till one of my missiles finally knocked the AWIngs reactor out and left it drifting. The Awing never hit me, and I think I hit it one time at most, probably not at all, until it was disabled.
If PvP damage gets reduced, then such fights will never end, since you can cap to shield shunt all damage away too fast.

I dont ever PvP in space.
Becuase there are two P's in PvP. I haven't seen another overt player in months... I use space to faction farm so I'm overt almost 100% of the time.

there are several ways to dramatically increase your chances of finding other players to pvp against, the best way is probably to stay within 2km of your opposing faction station in deep space. all enemies spawn off the respective stations so you can just sit there and get them while they go by as you wait for players to enter the system. deep space is by far the best place in the game to get faction, and a good group of players taking the spawns off a base can get more faction than i have ever seen possible.
i'm talking 10kphx the # of players present in the group, per groupmember. you can also patrol their mission routes, as generally many players go overt for their missions.

I find it very encouraging to read posts like this. All I've done in SWG lately is fly and I've had an absolute blast. I've learned SO much. Three weeks ago, I couldn't take down a gunboat with a crew. This weekend I solo'ed the vette in my Firespray.
For me, PvP in Space is the next boundry to cross. I'll go in to it realizing I'm a noob and will take the time to learn.

Whole heartedly agree! And I can say that all the pilots I know who don't post also agree.

I agree. I was in Kessel taking on the corvette (not overt) and my Bomber Strike took out Gun 5. I finished off the escorts and the second gunboat, and saw a white dot take out one of "my" white dots. Seems some "Rebel Scum" was attacking the strike team, so I hunkered down behind the corvette and finished off the shields, engine, reactor, then flew a nice loop, came in and bagged the bridge, all the while with these X-Wings shooting me harmlessly.
A quick /tell for them to meet me in Deep Space just as soon as I could collect the 30k prestige needed to get there. They took a look at my TIE Bomber and probably drooled. I headed for home, dropped off my bomber and hopped into my TIE Interceptor. Quick stop in Theed for the master title, off to Endor for prestige and Deep Space.
A quick search and I'm facing 3-1 odds. Ah well, it's only a game right?
I'm not sure of the "rules" of PvP in space yet. As such, I announced my intentions by changing the odds to 2-1. The game is even by the time there is any reaction, and the final X-wing pilot wants to get into a turning battle, I'm betting for a missle shot.
Me 3, Them 0.
I was expecting some nasty tells, but instead all I got was "Wanna go again?"
Yes I do. I've dropped Black Epsilon for Storm Squadron, and the next time I do the corvette it will be overt - and I'll make sure I let them know in advance.
As far as I'm concerned in my short time playing SWG, the only change they need to make to space PvP is to add some sort of incentive to get people to try it out.

I disagree.
For me, this is a game-mechanics problem. The entire flavor of PvE is lost going to PvP.
The ground game used to follow this model: shoot and kill. In the end, the ground game rejected this model. They wanted knock-down, dragout fights, and not one-hit kills. I'm for that model for the same reasons: I don't want to one-shot my enemy. I want to get into a stiff fight where time and skill, and and much less chance, determines the winner. I don't want to one-shot my enemy, I want to sweat the combat for the entire time, and have my skill and not my RE guns, to give me victory. Secondly, I want my opponent to get experience fighting me. I want him to survive long enough to get excited by the fight, and go "that was great!" even when he looses. My opponent will LEARN something, and soon grow to be a better and tougher opponent.
One-shot PvP discourages PvP. One-shot PvP makes it harder to develop better opponents. One-shot PvP puts too much emphasis on luck or surprise. For these reasons, PvP in space remains a niche playstyle. If the goal is to broaden and create a strong and fun PvP community, one-shot combat is not the way to do it.

pvp in space is okay.... if you are in light ships designed for dogfighting. (awing, tie advanced, dunelizard etc)
however, as it stands there is no role for the bombers (bwing, tie bomber) and POB/MP type ships in pvp.
i'd prefer to see things changed to have things be more like:
fighter > bomber > POB ships > fighter
