Thread: Make Space Combat More Fast-Paced

I think that if I could pick one change to space flight, it would be the fact that it takes me like 2 minutes to pilot my way over to the SS, whereas Luke Skywalker speaks, in the books, of zipping at near-lightspeed around a planet and using its gravity to slingshot his ship at an enemy.

I think that a very good way to make the pilot profession more enjoyable would be to boost the speed and roll/yaw/pitch rates of the ships, say, fivefold. This would make dogfights more exciting and would make it possible to outrun/maneuvre missiles, which are currently a lot more sluggish than they should be. Missiles should be just a bit faster than their target so that the target can jet off towards an asteroid belt, maybe boosting a bit, to keep the missile away from his ship until he could trick it into detonating on an asteroid. However, the target would not be able to outrun missiles entirely. This would be pretty cool, and I think that this is exactly what the profession needs.

The need for top-notch reflexes would also, ultimately, weed out the less adaptable pilots, and would eventually create more legacies. Legacies kick ass. Their's nothing better than the feeling of someone seeing you and complementing you on your performance in a battle. This change would also make a pilot's power rely less on their equipment and more on their personal skill and intelligence.

Um...have you PvPed much? Granted, PvE is pretty slow-paced...but PvP is fast enough already that I can barely keep up.

PvE isnt really "slow-paced" its just TOO easy and this would make it much more easy. Want a PvE challenge, there are some seriously tough missions now, and you cna pop into DS and really annoy every enemy fighter you see until you have 20 of them gunning for you.

But I think that it should relatively similar. Players in a dogfight will just occupy a greater range in DS. They'll move faster, and it'll be harder to keep up, but if you hang back far enough, you'll be able to match their movements and blast holes in them. Besides, what kind of pilot shadows his man at point blank and expects to not wind up on the receiving end of gunfire or with his nose in the other guy's tail. Tactics. Tactics and expertise. And if you can't keep up with the PVP as it is, maybe you had better practice flying to improve your reflexes. A VERY sound investment of any pilot's time, to be sure.

Well I do this in Kessel. I just jump in, fly up to the vette, pop it twice and boost/ CTSS3 until I'm out of range. Then I try to dodge their gunfire. I don't even shoot. I just let them make runs at me and try to dodge it as I see it.

Besides, this would make PVE better, not worse, because it would be more exciting, and the other ships would be whizzing around as well.

A VERY sound investment of any pilot's time, to be sure Yes, it would be a sound investment of a pilots time to learn how to fly without having to use the ROTW ships to compete.

Kind of a harsh post there don't you think? But the pink is the main point. Get some pvp experience mate, then return and make suggestions. I can tell you now that only the best pilots can even keep my ship on screen for any length of time. Same with other pilots too who're hard to track in pvp. Making this game any faster would be a bad idea.

Yeah I was harsh, here is someone who hasnt mastered, so hasnt PvPed and says (in another thread) he flys a bub (BSF i supposse) all the time, shows a complete lack of knowledge of all things pilot, and he is arrogant to think he knows exactly what is good for the pilot community and how to make space BETTER by making all ships FIVE (5 times for fu.....) times faster.

Sorry, but, that kind of annoyed me.

Ummm....have you Pvp'ed? I have shot down ships with a single well placed shot. I have been owned by other pilots in engagements that lasted mere seconds. I have flown against pilots with equal skills and engaged in twisting dogfights that lasted minutes. In all cases, the pilot's equipment, reflexes and tactics are pushed to the max. If that doesn't get your blood pumping, you must be dead!

Increasing the ships performance 5-fold would only make the PvE game more dull that it is. Once pilot's adapt to the new ships, I doubtthe PvP experience would really change that much as everyone, not just you, would be flying ships 5x faster and manuverable. Getting blow out of space is part of the fun and excitement of flying in space... not being the Uber-dude that's invincible. What fun would it be if the outcome was always predictable?

The only way you could make PvP more fast-paced is a Final-Fantasy-like "battle" sound and a quick "best of three" Rock Paper Scissors contest to determine the winner. :/

Can I just Epulse3 this guy to show him how fast paced things can be?
