Master Ranger in all but final title? I like to think so....

Maybe it's just me, but I absolutely refuse to get my Master title from an NPC trainer. I just hope I can find one of my fine fellow RANGERS FOR TEH WIN! online at some point soon on Ahazi....

(yes, I'm one training away from a real "I'm a new Master Ranger!" post)

Yup, was on last night, and so were others, but I think they were busy... probably crawl racing or doing a melon foraging contest, all very imporatant and Ranger-y stuff. I'm just excited to be able to finally display the tag after I train, but there's really no rush... not like it's going to change my game play or style or attitude or anything....

OK, I'm closing in now on the final prize. Last night I completed the first of the ace missions for the Smuggler's Alliance and got me shiny jacket (which is cut in such a way that from the back I almost look boyish and broad shouldered). Next up is the fabled corvette mission. Then I can kit out a YT and I'm finally a 'true smuggler'

Couple of stoopid things I noticed about these missions:

1. The Alliance admiral you need to speak to is standing in plain sight in the Doba Guerfel hotel, with some aide next to him. Not 3 metres away is an Imperial comms-operator. Not exactly what you'd call 'keeping out of sight' now is it?

2. I happened to have some buddy wingmen waiting at the Rebel deep space station, so I decided to jump to Kessel there. The station comms-op tells me that I should join the Rebellion before we can talk. OK, now first, I am a Rebel, and secondly, their bloody Admiral sent me!!!

Dumb.

Anyways, that aside, any of you other smuggler aces out there got any good tips for the Corvette mission? Naturally, I'm going to be taking as large a group as I can muster (need the cannon fodder). But does the Corvette have any blindspots or weaknesses?

Any tips you folks can give will be much appreciated.

Then you can use the Alliance Deep Space station to travel to Kessel. However, you can't use it to travel to Deep Space, which requires Rebel Presitige, and not the Neutral form.

The Corvette has two blindspots. The Fore and Aft horizons. Not to the sides a little, but directly to the front and rear of it. The thing you need to keep in mind is that to damage a component on board the Corvette, you have to hit that component specifically, unlike all other ships, where you can hit the engines and take out a turret. Next thing, you can only target certain subsystems at a time.

Meaning you must take out all weapons and the two shields first. Then the Engine will become targetable. Next the Reactor. And finally, the Bridge. The minimum numberof people I'd suggest taking is seven.

Also remember you need to rid the Corvette of its escorts beforehand, else, you'll have some difficulty.

Thanks Jaecob. I know it's possible to go there overt, but I don't like pvp, so I jumped there from the Dathomir Last Nav station

Just a few basic thoughts:

Bring along some missiles. They're terribly effective at taking out the guns, especially before you really know the exact location of every system you'll need to hit; just target a gun, get a lock, and fire away. Mk III Concussions work best, I find, as you can get 10-12 in a pack no problem and they pack enough punch to knock out or severely damage a turret.

Get the fighters to aggro you first, draw them away from the Vette, then take them out. The gunboats won't peel away, and their firepower added to the Vette's can be pretty rough, but you can do strafing runs on them, or try to hang just out of their firing range (525-550m works best) and pound on them if the Corvette's distracted enough to not wipe you out while you're floating there. It can fire at least 700m (possibly up to 800-1000, though it's pretty inaccurate out there), so it can cover those gunboats and will mess you up if you're not careful while you're concentrating on them.

If you're getting shredded, IFF Scramble's your best friend. Capacitor to shield shunt is your second best friend.

Lastly, you don't fail the mission if you die, so don't be too concerned about that. You just have to be in Kessel (and possibly within a certain range--but it's long, like at least 5km) when the Vette blows up and you'll complete the mission. So if all else fails, you can go kamikaze on it a few times and still come out with the master title.

Good luck up there. Vette runs can be a lot of fun if you have a few brash pilots on your wing.

Thanks.

It would seem a good idea to get rid of the gunboats as quick as possible, as those can cause some serious problems even by themselves. Fighter cover isn't a major problem.

Does the corvette have to be taken apart piece by piece, or can you just keep on shooting it until it goes? It sounds to me like it has to be destroyed bit by bit. Is it, then, guns==>shields==>engines==>bridge?

Thanks for the tips so far, and sorry this isn't in the Pilot forum, but to be honest, I prefer talking to my compadres here. You guys know the shizzle, some of you have done it, and generally the intelligence and maturity level here leaves most forums in the dust.

So, uhm, round of shots on me

How about massed energy pulses, say 10 ships dropping energy pulses on the gunboats at pointblank, or the corvette itself? Any ideas how effective this might be?
