I can't solo most missions. So what ? I ask an ace to help me, killing in 2 hits what takes me 2 minutes ? So I lean back while he does my mission ?
Either you are an ace already, don't have JtL at all or if you have, you don't care for the career (only the cheap travel). So please don't give me the speech "find someone of your level that needs the mission, too". Probably this worked when space was new, but not these days.

Yes, I am $&$$/ed right now. I just wasted another hour (of many today) on an unsuccessfull tier 3 mission. Mission failed, and I have no clue what went wrong exactly. So first the ground game is pretty much over for me, being killed by babies. And now I have reached the end in space at Imp tier 3 missions.

Well, I won't give the "Find people your tier speech" (they are there, lots of people picking up JtL). Want a challenge on your missions, but most of the Aces who help slaughter your targets? Ask them if they would be willing to fly a weaker ship, down-grade to something closer to your power level. Many Aces would enjoy a challenge like that.

Suggestion:
Go through the pilot and JTL forums. Theres so much infomation to be learned here, its a literal storehouse of knowledge on how to improve your gameplay in JTL.

Once you understand the space game better (and its totally different then the ground game), it's alot more fun.

This is true. However, if it doesn't really help, you may be in the same boat as me. Some people just aren't good at flying. I'm one of them. I get by usually, but only just so. It's my favorite part of the game, and I can't imagine not flying, but I realize that I'm just not very good at it.

Hey man, I understand the frustration. My first week flying in JTL was pretty miserable. Made it to my tier 3 and hit it like a brick wall. But.. there is hope.

1st_Viduus (guildie of mine) offered to help, though, he had the condition that I had to "try" first. So, I threw myself at these missions probably at least 3 times each before I'd bring him in to help me out.

Then, in classic Vid style, he'd hang back. Give me pointers. Scream "Roll!" over and over at me through Ventrillo. Mainly I needed his help to keep me from getting overwhelmed. up to 4-5 NPC's I could handle solo, too many more and it just got out of hand. It was of course when JTL first came out so I didn't have any re'ed gear yet, nor any experience.

Here's how you handle any Ace's that help you out. Tell them to hang back unless you need the help, or... ask them to only disable targets. Usually if I'm helping someone on a tier3 or up I just put the ship we're escorting on follow, bark out advice, and wait to disable the big nasty gunboats that appear along the way. (I'm usually too busy in guildchat to deal with measely snub-fighters! LMAO!)

If you're on Ahazi and Imperial/Nuetral lemme know, I'll help you out man. If not, check out the "Pilot Helpers" thread to get some good folks that would rather teach you than do it all for you.

I know no fear, but rather I instil it in my enemies. I am the destroyer of worlds.
I know the power of the Dark Side. I am the fire of hate.

There are a lot of teir 3 pilots out there I just made 4-3-3-3 sunday did pilot for the double exp last week.

I got Feespace 2 and joystick and practiced with it before release of jtl but stopped playing for just over 5 months went back to space to get at least 4-3-3-3 for the new ships last week.

I was a little off with timing and interface controls but did go from 1-1-0-0 to 4-3-3-3 (loved that 2X exp) but I can not believe I was only 1 who restarted pilot. (I gave up SA for RSF before I stopped playing)

Well, that's the hard part for an ace. In my oppressor, I can blast away tier 4 ships in 5-6 hits, without too much drama (Unless they're Awings lol)

I realised, not long after I aced and started helping people, that I was being used by the majority of them. They wanted me to do their pilot mission - or more correctly, their pilot profession - for them. So I started putting some "guidelines" in place. I stipulated that to get my help, you must have attempted the mission at least once.

Also, you must do it in your own ship...I'm not here to give you a free ride in an aggressor and do your mission while you go make a coffee and watch TV.

3rd, I do not ever help with grinding.

4, the person I'm helping must destroy at least one ship per wave, and to this end, I'll never attack the ship that they're attacking.

Otherwise, you're not going to learn a thing about how to fly.

Now, they're not real hard to follow. Yet I have been abused a few times and called various names, all because I wouldn't kill all the targets in the wave. So, what's aguyto do?

BTW, if you're on bria, gimme a yell. I'll give you as much help as you ask for ,-)

i hate to say it but some people are just not very good at twitch based flying. its not that these people are better or worse at this game then others its just they cant cut it as pilots. even some people who managed to make master are better off staying on the ground, they dont have it. if the flying frustrates you try the ground game it might be more to your likeing. And if you really want to fly and make master, practice, practice, practice. i had over 6 million xp before i got my second 4th tier box. also some of the missions cannot be soloed. you must have a person or a whole group with you, the vett and havoc squadren tier 4 exit come to mind.

to sum up

if your not having fun as a pilot do something else

this is a game and supposed to be fun

I just got Alliance Ace this Monday....or Sunday, I forgot. But anyway, I then got my new B-Wing on Tuesday, refitted it and am going to try it out when I help my new guild.

When I say "new guild" I meant it in more ways than one. The guild itself has been up for a week or so and most of the members are below combat level 50. I, however am the level 80 respec'ed Master Bounty Hunter (don't get mad at me, I was a BH before the CU and just used repec to boost a couple of boxed).

Most of the members have JTL and are about tier 2 or 3, and with this information, I plan on "helping" my friends, not "do" their missions for them.

I managed to reach 4444 smuggler alliance with very little problems only the corvette needed someone to help me out on it after trying it solo more times than i can count (after i run out of fingers and toes i gave up) i also got 4444 Vortex rebel pilot solo so i dont know why people think it is too hard.

Pilot is the onegeneral combat skill system base in this game and some people need more practice than others and some people reach a level they arnt able to pass at that time without more practice.

When i first started i would land almost completely blackbared because i would always take on more than i can deal with, though doing it that way i learnt how fly defensively and how sometimes getting a kill wasnt as important as disabling their engines and moving on to the next target.

Learning how to read your radar helps you work out what is happening around you and where you need to go and what is coming behind you but also being aware of what ships you are fighting and where they are vulnerable, such asa missions for the blacksun ship where you need to disable the corvette todisable the corvette i need to take out the bottom gun then and then move to the front stillunder the firing arc of the top guns to destroy the shield and secondary shield before sliding to the back off it to take out the engines this isnt easy because you have several tier 4 and 5 ship shooting at you which is where knowing your droid commands come in. Using my droid commands to empty my capacitor to fully recharge my shield so i can tank while fighitng the corvette and if i get into a bad situation where im forced to the top of the corvette i useiff scramble to give me time to escape all those turbo lasers at top.

As a pilot you need to learn:

  • How to managed your components for your ship

  • How to fly effectively and get used to the twitch system

  • The strength's and weakness of the ship your fighting and the ship your using

  • How and when to use your specials

  • How to use droid commands

  • How to use the radar

  • And if things turn bad how to make a quick escape while staying in the same area the mission is so you dont fail

I love the space part of the game and im really pleased they are combining it with the ground content now which adds to immersion.
