I'm not worthy of the Pilot Trolls here...BUT!!!

I haven't been able to find any information on countermeasures. Most that I know do not even have one on their ship! But some info would help

I'm planning on running some tests, but the last couple of times I asked nobody followed up.

It's my understanding that a simple chaff will work just as reliably as an IFF decoy.

Then again, I've only had ONE missile fired on me by a player, ever.

i was wondering this myself.....

my alt is 4004 freelance corsec pilot..... i have the micro-chaff launcher installed in the ship at this time. if they're all just as good, then there really isnt a reason to upgrade, using more mass, reactor drain and such.....

I don't think I've ever had a chaff launcher fail against an NPC missile. I haven't done extensive testing against other players (I've just fired a lot of missiles at em and had a bunch lobbed at me), but if you're facing Image-Rec missiles, higher-level chaff will help. It's just the difference in effectiveness between them isn't very great, possibly not enough to be worth bothering with.

You use chaff against NPC missiles?? They never seem to do enough damage to make it worthwhile giving up that mass that you could use elsewhere...

Get hit by missile, CTSS4, damage repaired.

I don't bother chaffing anything outside Deep Space, but out there, I do like having it. Tier 5 missiles can hit pretty hard and the 858 mass it takes up seems worth it.

Keeps me sharp for the missiles thrown my way in PVP, too.

In Deep Space, it's usually not just ONE missile. It's typically one followed by another...and another...and another...in rapid succession.

Clicky

Chaff (Lvl 1): Standard counter measure launcher.
Sensor decoy (Lvl 3): It is a sensor decoy system. Moderately effective against incoming missiles
Micro-chaff (Lvl 5): More effective than the chaff.
IFF Confuser (Lvl 7): Launches a small device that makes enemy missiles think they are targeting a friendly target. More effective than the micro-chaff
EM Emitter (Lvl 9): Disrupts a missiles sub-system. Highly effective.

I've been hit by missles using chaff and decoys, once when using micro-chaff and never using iff confuser. Do not have tier 5 so not used EM emitter but with the amount of named resources needed not sure I ever will.

Nevermind the fact that when fired upon by a REAL missile, military pilots will dump out more than one chaff.

With something like a bomber or transport, you'll see whole fireworks displays.

Case in point. Another case in point.

Personally, if I knew I had been locked and fired upon, I'd dump about three carts while banking hard to increase my chances, plus give me extra insurance if I had more than one incoming. That's why I always buy chaff when it has a load number of 15 charges per pack.

If my shields aren't at 100% and I've got a missile coming at me, I will dump 2-3 chaff instead of one; I don't like taking chances if I don't know I can survive the hit if it happens to get through.

Our events last for an hour, though, so there's a need to conserve your consumables up there in case someone's been holding back.
