I enjoyed it although sci-fi on network TV is rare (then they cancel it anyways), so I take what I can get.

So, was just thinking about heading to Best Buy after a short nap. Went to their website to see what movies were out recently, etc. On the front page of the movie/dvd/tv show area they had an ad for the DVD set for Space: Above and Beyond. I remember catching like part of 1 episode, thinking it was pretty cool, I should watch more when I get a chance. Then blamo! like every other Fox sci-fi show, it was gone. Now I can't hope that it was anywhere as good as Firefly or Farscape, but I might pick it up if I get some good reviews of it, I'd pick up Battlestar Galactica because so many have raved about it, but its at like $70 bucks. I'll wait. Was S:AAB any good? Worth picking up for $40 for the set? If I get some decent reviews I may just pick it up.

Thanks for any input.

Think Beverly hills 90210 in space.

It was pretty dire.

Some episodes were really good, the pilot among them, others sucked.

the best thing about it, everyone dies. but then, i like a movie where the good guy dies in the end.

good show, did get kinda weird at the end, and the last episode is killer.

if you want good sci-fi, babalon 5, farscape or the new galactica. have to rate facscape #1 though.

I'd go with Farscape and Firely tied at #1. I love them both. I ended up being true to form in Best Buy and instead of the tough decision (i.e; which one?) I bought the BSG original miniseries DVD, the 'UK version' 1st season (heres hoping its not in those crappy subtitles j/k) and S:AAB. So we'll see how Galactica does me.

As for Babylon 5, I came to terms with being a geek a long time ago. I'm ok with it, but Babylon 5 really seems to go that extra mile and take you down to that really deep seeded geekness. Really all the people I know that like it are disturbingly geeky. As in, all geek, zero social skills whatsoever. So I am very reluctant to take what I view as the 7th seal of nerdness. Like if I watch it, I'll start needing D&D parties in my home and arguing with myself who would beat who in a fight, Batman vs Superman and why Aquaman was virtually useles, etc.

New Battlestar Galactica is awesome. I want a Viper and my very own copy of No.6

By your command...
Waiting for season II to come out on dvd though.

Unfortunately, nothing can beat Starwars ever...sorry.
Btw, Firefly was good too. Hmm, come to think of it, Serenity is out on the 30th September so I got quite a bit of sci-fi geekness lined up for the next month amongst other things.

Great idea on paper, kinda a mix of "Lets take the Space Marines from Aliens, mix in a little of that PC/SNES game that's big Wing Commander and we'll have a hit!" Sadly bad acting, stupid story lines, and the fact that Fox was trying to make a show that they could put on before or after the X-Files had never worked. If your wanting a dvd that's semi like SWG go with Firefly.

Babylon 5 gave American scifi something its been painfully lacking forever, Star Wars included. A reliable, consistent, continuous storyline with minimal loopholes, very very few cheeseball plots, and the most developed alien cultures to date.

Plus it wasn't ashamed of making humans out to be the bad guys in Season 3 and 4.

I liked Space Above and Beyond! Not necessarily the best bit of theater, but very entertaining and a decently fleshed out universe.

Farescape was cool for a while, but then I missed a bit, and when I came back to watching it I felt like everything I'd missed was too critical, and I had no idea what was going on. The story became too convoluted and I could never get back into it.

B5 was good until they got into all the sappy spinoffs. You want to talk bad acting...ugh!

Anyone ever see Space Rangers? Sort of an early, low budge SciFi TV show. I think they only made a few episodes. Had potential though to be some great B-Movie style action.

Ive seen Space Rangers, was pretty good, and had one of the coolest ships in any scifi series. I think they made a total of like 5 episodes
