Thread: Space: Above and beyond. Was it any good?
Examples:
Firefly
Space: Above and Beyond
Exo-Squad (I swear to god i'll never forgive them for canceling this show, they ended it on a cliffhanger)
Characters always seemed to be dying in both series.
A bit campy and predictable at times.

the best thing about it, everyone dies. but then, i like a movie where the good guy dies in the end.
good show, did get kinda weird at the end, and the last episode is killer.
if you want good sci-fi, babalon 5, farscape or the new galactica. have to rate facscape #1 though.
I'd go with Farscape and Firely tied at #1. I love them both. I ended up being true to form in Best Buy and instead of the tough decision (i.e; which one?) I bought the BSG original miniseries DVD, the 'UK version' 1st season (heres hoping its not in those crappy subtitlesj/k) and S:AAB. So we'll see how Galactica does me.
As for Babylon 5, I came to terms with being a geek a long time ago. I'm ok with it, but Babylon 5 really seems to go that extra mile and take you down to that really deep seeded geekness. Really all the people I know that like it are disturbingly geeky. As in, all geek, zero social skills whatsoever. So I am very reluctant to take what I view as the 7th seal of nerdness. Like if I watch it, I'll start needing D&D parties in my home and arguing with myself who would beat who in a fight, Batman vs Superman and why Aquaman was virtually useles, etc.
Sorry I disagree, Babylon 5 rocked. I've never watched a tv show that has had me so hooked since I was a kid.
The characters had flaws, life in space was hard and dirty, people got killed..often.. main characters included, it was gritty and semi-realistic, they shot first and asked questions later, space battles involved hunderd of fighters and cruisers duking it out with each other at breakneck speed (as apposed to 2 ships facing each other and a camera shake), in 5 years there was only 2 episodes that dealt with time travel and unlike a "certain other popular sci-fi show" they showed that messing with time is dangerous.
Plus season 3 and 4 they turned earth into a neo-facist evil dictatorship, the only series ever to deal with the idea that earth is not always the good guy.
Plot twists all over the place, characters you thought were evil turned out to be good, characters you thought were good turned out REALLY evil.
Peak of the series for me... when the shadow war turned nasty (after sheridan decided to nuke the shadows capital from orbit lol) and they unleashed the planet killer on everyone... having the vorlons (who we all thought were the good guys) respond by deciding to unleash thier own planet killer and destroy everyone who had even looked in the direction of the shadows.
Oh and I'm married and have plenty of social skills thank you very much
To bad SWG woudn't alow me to call my ship "Angry Angel" so there called "Abandon All Hope" after chiggy von richthoven instead
Wich is very fitting for the stuff i have dumped in my opressor

Yep thats what I used to call it. Space: 90210Save the money and use it to see "Serenity" a few time in theaters this fall. The Firefly movie is gonna rock.
Too late. Bought S:AAB, The original Battlestar Galactica miniseries and the 1st season of BSG. Couldn't decide so I got them all.
But, you can bet your butt I'll be seeing Serenity a rediculous amount of times when it comes out.
Firstly, funny you should mention Space: Above and Beyond, I just watched all the episodes at work this week
(I love my job
) I saw it when it first started on TV and liked it, but being young, never got to see all the episodes, etc, but managed to get my hands on all of them a few years ago. Yes, some of the episodes are a little dodgy, but on the whole, I thought it was great
And yes, the last episode is pretty good ![]()
Babylon 5 was awesome
As someone pointed out, it had a great, continuous storyline, without gaping holes and unexplainable occurences. Special effects were pretty good (they did win a few awards for it after all). Again, loved it ![]()
Firefly was fantastic! Pity there was only 15 episodes
Dying to see the movie, hopefully will spark a renewed interest in the show, getting it picked up again. Joss Whedon is a legend (and I probably misspelt his name). Again, love it ![]()
New series of Battlestar Galactica, loved it too
waiting for the second season here in Australia. Never saw the original series, but know a bit about it. Like what they've done with the new version, and love the Vipers as well ![]()
ROFL...I used to call it Melrose Space
My buddy (who is a navy Pilot) and I absolutely loved that show. It had all the right makings of a fun and engaging space drama. Then, without warning, fox cancels the darned thing and it dies.
Then they killed the good vampire show they started at the same time. After that, I stopped watching any new shows that fox made b/c I was so extremely dissapointed that they made 2 good shows and canceled them after one season.
