Focus threads: One of my jobs as a Corro is to try to have a good understanding of how the community feels. Iam looking for insight into how you all would feel about specific topics. These will be semi-directed posts to help me understand what you are all thinking. I may from time to time ask you forget about specific topics like bugs. This is to help me get an understanding of how you would/might feel after some things are fixed or changed.

Rules:

  1. Keep it civil
  2. Argue your point nicely
  3. Think about the other sides points of view, lets hear some real counter points
  4. BRING IT!

I know there have been many threads about this in the past. I want to start a new one to try to get all the ideas in one place. I would like to try to stuff the ideas in 2 categories, Easy-to-implement and Require-major-changes. Feel free to come up with one for both.

First off a question: Force Sensitive Trade in? Yes or No and why.

ADDING: I wanted to make this topic open to ANY talk about non-"mastering" content. So the ideas here can include non-masters as well. I don't want to limit us to master-only ideas, I think there are a lot of ideas out there that can include all level pilots, but they dont have to

Yes. The trade in rate can be really high and I won't care. As a casual gamer, I like flying over the ground game because it takes little to no prep time (as opposed to waiting half an hour for buffs to go hunting only to have kills stolen from me and those I group with by some powergamer because he/she can). I stay up in space a large portion of the time as a result, since it's a more satisfying option in my mind. I've also been playing since launch and would like an opportunityto move up the Force Sensitivity trees and eventually get my second slot. This would give people like me a chance to do what we enjoy and still work slowly towards the reward of Jedi (aka second character slot).

No FS trade in.

Pilot skills require no skill points and JtL is completely separate from the ground game. Plus, I rather enjoy having an area of SWG where Jedi don't matter at all. Allowing FS conversion for XP will only open the door to demands for such things as Jedi Starfighters and Jedi Space Skills.

Ok, since I answered the first question directly, time to share some other thoughts. My thought has always been that Prestige pointsshould bekinda the equivalent of faction points for your space faction. Being able to trade them in for special items with an npc from your faction would be nice. Maybe that could be a way for RSF pilots to get the Naboo fighter many people ask for. Adding one ship per sub-faction (smuggler, corsec, rsf being seperate)that you could trade faction points to somehow obtain would be nice. Also, custom texture kits and things to put in your multiplayer shipslike the fuzzy dice (also being asked for)could be "requistioned" from an npc by your space faction. As Imentioned in another thread, you can even make special master missions that have rewards ( maybe special ship certs) cost prestige to attempt. Really, most are dying for anything to use their prestige on in addition to Deep Space.

First off a question: Force Sensitive Trade in? Yes or No and why.

I vote for no. I think there are some great ideas on possible uses for our master xp. I think asking for both special perks and FS trade in is too much. I would rather see some of those ideas then FS conversion.

Master Content easy: I would love to see some of the current Tier 4 missions, move them to kessel and add T5 ships instead of T3 and T4s. The onslaught of

T5 ships and constant "Ding Ding Ding" would be a blast for a few master pilots in a group. There are a few missions I wish we could take as a duty

Master Content major: Boarding a corvette: From another post of mine...

"We have discovered that the Empire/Rebels have taken some of our most important code cyphers and are transporting them on a Corellian Corvette inkessel to deliver to the Star Destroyer/Rebel Space Station. We need you disable the Corvette, board it, and recover the information."

  • You would need a full load of players in space with the FOB ship (YT/Decimator/Nova) plus the escort fighters. When inkessel you get a mission waypoint to the Corvette. Once at the target location, you must eliminate the fighter escort then disable the corvette, just like in the master missions. Once the vette is disabled the FOB ship docks with the disabled vette.

"Once you have boarded the ship you must verify the information is located on the vessel then destroy it. We understand that there will be heavily armed resistance onboard the ship, I recomend you take a full combat crew on this mission. Knowing the practices of the Empire/Rebels I am sure once the vette is disabled they will send a full fighter escort to destroy the craft once you board it, so stay on your toes."

  • Once docked with the Corvette, the FOB ship will have access to the craft thru the docking hatch (would need to be added, say a useless dorway that is changes to a ladder like the exsisting turret access). This would drop the combatants into the Corvette the same way as you would for the old "Ground Corvette" missions but with a different entrance room. Once onboard the boarding party from the FOB ship must battle to gain access to the Captains quarters and verify that this is the correct ship carrying the stolen information. Access to this room wouldby by aNovice Artisan (Engineering 4??). Using slight variations of the Destroy and Assasination missions for the old "ground vette". Now no SBDs, lets make it hard but we need to keep the time down a bit on this part. To keep the escort fighters busy there would be waves of enemy fighters who jump in to stop the mission that would need to be eliminated. Once the information is verified, the boarding party scuttles the ship and return to the FOB ship. The FOB ship used to board the Corvette would remain docked for the duration of the onboard opperation and would be the cloning location for any of the players that die onboard the corvette where they could be healed and rebuffed and sent back into battle.

"Then you must bring the information back to me, safely, I will be in space on a transport ship awayting your delivery. We are counting on you to succeed in this mission. Long live the Rebuplic/Empire"

  • Once the mission holder (the master pilot of FOB ship?) has verified the inforamation (say a data disk is given by the computer) then the full crew must battle its way back safely to a wp in a different system and dock to deliver it. Now if the mission holder dies while piloting (not onboard the vette) the mission fails.

Reward: Mission badge!!

So all I am thinking, with a few small additions, isadding the old ground vette interior with a spawned space vette to make make IMHO one heck of a fun andhard mission.

Prestige points: I would like to see the ability to buy 1 time use schematics for new ships

That is a good point for the "No FS conversion". 0 skillpoint profession allowing a FS conversion could get a lot of other professions angry at us.

I'll keep this as short as possible for your convinience.

Jedi have no place in space. They've ruined the ground experience, we should have somewhere to escape hordes of FRS-exploiting, glowstick swinging leet dudes. No FRS trade-ins, no Jedi space skills.

Prestige - should be able to trade in for stuff. Examples:

-Lambda shuttles for imperials, different YT designs for Privateers, Gallofree transport variants for Rebels, etc.
-Huge amounts of Prestige for a Corvette. The interior is in-game. Of course before this can be put in, we need to fix existing issues regarding MP ships and equipment. As it stands there is no incentive to split a fighter group of 3+ into one MP unit, since there is only light-duty, low mass equipment in game.
-Smaller amounts of prestige for reward equipment that you normally gain as you complete missions, such as the engines, guns, etc. The prestige cost should be balanced so it is not so large it is unfeasible to acheive, yet not so small no other equipment exists. Consider a system where purchasing reward equipment increases the cost for subsequent purchases?
-New texture kits for low amounts of prestige. Imperials should be able to trade a lot of prestige in to put Imperial logos, squadron logos, flames, and other icons. Only the most advanced pilots would be able to paint their ship and not get a word from an Admiral . New texture kits for Rebels/Privateers could be like this also, they are icons that can be put on top of existing textures - imagine them like sticker kits for a painted up boy-racer .

Now Master Content is a very broad term. What can keep people entertained in space?

I, for one, do not want to see space 'content' the same as ground. As in; mindlessly grinding exp. I enjoy being a pilot, such as the feel Tier 3 gave to me.

Content could come in the form of 'space dungeons'. Anyone who's played Starfox might get the idea - asteroid belts with enemys to blast, racing to the end, etc.

One idea is to make a cross-over dungeon area. Lets say for example, SoE works in conjunction with LucasArts to make a special dungeon to co-incide with the release of Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith. So they decide to make a dungeon, kind of like the Death Watch Bunker, which has Republic commando armour to be crafted as a prize.

Completing this dungeon would require defeating both Ground and Space to complete. Heres the example I was thinking of:

-You are given a new hyperspace point by the NPC quest giver.
-You go into space, hyperspace to it. Now you have to fight through some Episode three Droid ships, or something, to get to the next objective and start the ground area.
-You are required to break the hangar door open in space, then go through it in your ships.
-Now you are in the hangar, and you can see your ships around you. You are on foot and complete some puzzles and defeat some bosses, to get access to the next part of the dungeon.

As you can see, creating crossovers would create a whole new tier for dungeons.

Another idea would be to require skilled teamwork between both ground and space - There are some obstacles in the dungeon that must be destroyed from space, and likewise the ground players can destroy/man turrets to help the space efforts.

...I think I've managed to forget the 'keeping it short' bit, eh?

Very well thought out. I like the idea, the story line behind it, and the thought. Guess that means I'd have to give up my crafting classes and go back into combat. That or be the pilot and sit there and wait for all the other guys to finish the misison. But an excellent idea none the less.

Not really, you could always be an "observer"and get buffed and still go along, just not do any combat. but that is a good point the FOB ship pilot part does leave non-combat master pilots out of it.

Any ideas to help add them in?????

More then willing to update it

On the subject of what to do with Prestige Points, I'd like the ability to buy exceptional subcomponents (i.e., a MKIV shield subcomponent that adds 400 points to each shield face and increases recharge by 1.5) to be used in standard Shipwright schematics. Further examples below:

Blaster Limiter with a +0.3 versus shields, +0.3 versus armor, -0.1 Refire, -16 energy per shot.

Booster Overcharger with a +3 to Acceleration, +2 to top speed, +300 to energy storage, +2 to recharge

The numbers are just stuff that I'm throwing out. They can (should) be tweaked.

Exceptional subcomponents would level the playing field between high-end RE'd loot and shipwright-crafted components and enhance the relationships between Shipwrights and Pilots.

all i want is for the gcw to be brought into jtl somehow. some goood ideas i have heard involve having space stations over some of the planets that can be attacked disabled and captured alot like the bases on the ground, except they arent placed by players they are in a fixed location and you dont blow it up you capture it. the faction that lost control of the space sector would have a disadvantage on the ground gcw, possibly making thier ground bases more vulnerable.

this is defentaly something that would be considered hard to implement, but not very hard. they wouldnt have to develop any new content, the the stations can be exactly the same as the rebel freedom station in deep space.

The previous poster made a very interesting comment - try and get Space to fit into the upcoming publish (which I believe is currently on TC) - whereby capturing PvP bases helps 'control' a planet. Space should play a vital role in this.

For example, factioned-Corvettes, Carracks, Lancers, Nebulon Bs, etc, should start appearing in space according to the current factional prescene on the ground. Of course this is a catch 22, as this then allows enemy players to launch attacks on these ships and sway the balance back.
