Thread: Defensive lagging...

I've seen this twice in a week in Deep Space now and its really starting to annoy the hell out of me. A JSF pilot thisweekendand a Decimator pilot last nightboth using deliberately targeted fire at the ISD intended to generate shield effect that will lag an attacker (yours truly) off of them.

I made both pay very dearly for their mistake, the JSF pilot I had to kill with no droid overloads after being forced to use VRepair when he landed a shot on me while my system was in slideshow mode and disabled my capacitor. I beat the punk flying at 740 speed with 64 max energy on the capacitor. <3 A-Wings and Tri-Cannons

Last night, I'm working on the Imperial Star Destroyer Lagstar (beautiful name picked by an Imperial flight leader on Kett) to build up my FP and money quickly after a spending spree, and lo a Decimator keeps dropping in. He crept along the underside of the ISD and into the hangar area, thenwhen he detected a hostile on approach, he'd have his top gunner spam fire into the ISD, causing major shield splash and hellish lag. He did this twice, both times I weathered the lag storm and sent him screaming to Endor.

Now, clearly, these are inferior pilots, once pulled away from the Lagstar, they were absolute cheesecake to send packing, but the fact that the ISD allows this kind of tactic to function is extremely frustrating. If a moderately talented pilot were to start playing this game around the Freedom Station, you'd have a major loadjacking scenario on your hands.

Is there any chance we can request to have the shield splash on larger targets reduced to a less blinding display? Its pretty and all, but its enabling some very cheap exploiters to be far more successful than they have any right to be.

Oh but see, Janu, what you don't understand is that they're just using existing game mechanics to survive.Isn't that what DS is about? This is war, if it was a real war wouldn't you use whatever tactics were available to win? If it was an exploit the devs would remove it. You're just a bad player and need to adapt. Where do you get off telling them how to fly? If someone is in DS and gets attacked, they should be able to use every advantage they have to survive. And...um....

Wow, sounds like garbage, I can't even keep it up. Just file this in there with /launchmissile and loadkilling. I just wanted to be the first to post something mindlessly stupid.

I'd also like to see that shield splash decreased (Kashyyyk station gets ugly too at times when people have escorts that end there) and the ISD fixed.

Wow it really bothers you thatmuch huh? I never really understood, sorry for hounding you on the Kette forums like I did.

The way that you describe it now, yeah, I agree.. It's lame.

Its pretty much the same thing I said on the Kettemoor boards, except that time, i was calling BigDarkHelmet out on it directly. Now that I see others doing it, plus as Attaca mentioned, there are instances were stray shots are causing it too, that the shield splash is just too much and needs a tweak.

Incidental is one thing, and easily forgivable in cases where shot accuracy is going to be minimal. A particularly tactless grade of pilots using it to stave off an attack is inexcusable. Either way, the best solution is to mitigate the effect. Reduce shield splash to a manageable level.

I usually prefer to force them to come to me if they want a piece, and if not, I usually spiral in, hit IFF if I get agro'd, and proceed to sort of kamikaze my way to killing them.

PM coming your way, something just struck me as odd..

Welcome back, by the way

Thanks, I guess from now on I'll let the *edit* function have its way with my posts and just let the reader's imagination fill in all the proper expletives.

I agree, though there are several JTL related screen effects that lag badly for me, including the often-mentioned Kash nebulas, and certain gun effects I've noticed too. I'd be happy if they just gave me a slider that turned the quality (and lag) down on those. (And no, the existing sliders don't effect these issues.)

Last week I came upon a Krayt that would NOT move out from the ISD under any circumstances. He was touching it just where the superstructure starts at those steppy bits, trying to use the ISDs shields and lag to protect himslef. After a while of flying around, I came in under the ISDs plane and popped up hitting him with a twin exp blaster+ single heavy blaster shot. That was the end of him!

We've got a PvE event in the Kash system (based around the avatar platform)on Lowca tonight and I'm worried about the lag effects. If anyone knows any way to mitigate that stuff via graphics options, please post it or drop me a PM.

Just remembered that i once saw a RG Int doing that too, kinda funny considering I tried to hit him for 20 mins through the lag and actually scored a few glancing hit (shield damage only) yet he never hit me once! And I was in an Xwing, since then I pack a mk3 proton everywhere i go.

Janu, you're ranting like I rant about the application of Epulse in pvp but I remember you basically told me to get over it so ....I'm not going to be petty and tell you the same.

Yep, it sucks and yes this new breed of 'oh we know it all' pilots really are unreasonably immature and stupid but /shrug, I guess you'll have to do what I do. If faced with blatant stupidity...ignore it and come back later.

People used to do that on Bria alot, even before ROTW came out. On Starsider, we just have what I unfondly refer to as the 'We can't fly so we'll Lag out, Loadkill and Epulse' brigade which funnily enough are all in the same guild and without those tactics, have been easy pickings in the past but meh...

Some people in the world, in game and well...everywhere you go are inconsolable, un reasonable jackasses who will never change which is sad, but heh...if thats the way they want to be. Stuff them. Just keep following the good example you set and noone can fault you.

Using lag to mess with other players is definitely unkosher. The devs have done a few things to cut back on space lag, but unfortunately it's kind of hard sometimes to tell what exactly they've done. I don't think they've touched any of the issues with the ISD, though, which is probably the worst offender when it comes to lag, so I'll see about getting on them about that.

Heh, ive had a few schmucks light up the ISD, AND spam me with fake missles at the same time on more then a couple occasions. If i hadnt a beefy computer i think it would have crashed my system or forced a reboot.
