Thread: Focus: New POB Components

Okay, so we've seen some of the new stats on these things, and they look pretty impressive. Now it's time for some field testing: I'd like to hear how your POBs are performing up there in the vacuum, both in PVE and PVP.

Where are they strong? Where are they weak? In your experience, do they feel like a POB should--a sort of mini-tank that doesn't go down easy, and packs enough firepower to make it dangerous to assault? How do they fare against multiple T5 ships, gunboats, capital ships? And can they survive in PVP, or do they still explode too fast to be effective?

Publish 24 is a big step in the right direction. What I'd like to discuss now is whether it's big enough, or if we've still got some more work to do.

Oh yeah, and have fun up there.

I went up this afternoon with xTekx and Ayanami Rei in her newly outfitted YT1300, and I will just say WOW. It was a total blast in Deep Space. We handled Tier 5 fighters with little difficulty. Gunboats were like cows.

Oh yeah... the odds of surviving a direct assault on an Imperial Star Destroyer are pretty damn good.

We were actually seeking other players for a PvP experience, but anyone we knew of as Imperial hid well, or was only there long enough for a Pit Stop. I think they saw us and were afraid, to tell the truth

Shameless plug- this thread on AR170 usage has many tactics and thoughts that work perfectly in a POB ship. In essence this was going to be my POB guide before the ARC came out. All youPOB captainsplease read and enjoy.

well, i can't wait to test out the new parts. but this download seems fairly large. so it will be a while still. and then i have to harass some guildies into making me some parts pronto.

but this definitely seems like a step in the right direction. cant wait for my Decimator to actually decimate!!!!

Well I was in DS earlier and escorted a Y8 carrying the new stuff. The ship was scary in the aspect that my ship when flying on the same vector at maximum speed, comparatively was only flying a speed of 20 faster (or 200 as it looks like in game) and I use EO4, my top speed being 148 (1480). That means that in pvp, a good pob crew would merely have to 'retreat' to kill astarfighters speed advantage and fire backwards making it extremely hard for the solo pilot to kill one. Thats talking about my ship too which has got to be one of the faster combatants at this time so in a game of cat and mouse, a POB could really dominate.

I am yet to blow one up with my A-wing yet but judgng from the pve killing capacity of the new elite weapons, I am scared. I'm really hoping that this will add a new element to pvp and get more people up in DS.

I'm trying to get RS to keep a POB in operation, overt as often as possible now. I personally am reluctant to crew one as I like to be in control of my own destiny but I just love escorting these things. Ironic since I hate pve escort duty.

I must say that seeing a Y8 kill the ISD even with the relatively green crew it had and not taking any armour damage even, is a scary prospect. With a fully competent 'ace' crew well, I hate to think . Leaph = happy though.

This may lead to Player controlled capital ships (i.e. star destroyers and mon cali cruisers, not novas yts and decimators) well here's to hoping.

Its very scary. I fought Bria in my Xwing in Deep Space after Psiko logged and couldn't even get a shot. I'd get close on the head to head pass but by the time I turned they were 400m out and gaining.. and I wasn't about to follow since they were doing the tactic you described. I wanted to come at them from top down or bottom up, but Bria being the pilot she is wouldn't give me that chance. And everytime I got close I was scared.

Later on did a test where I got to hit her to see how much I could drop her shields with my weapons. One RE'd reward level 8 and one RE'd level 5 with 2600 max damage and it only took her shields down to 71%. Little bit later a JSF(who happened to be load ganking on sunday) arrived in system and Bria came back to DS as a rebel and fought the JSF. The JSF was able to get her sheilds and armor down to 50%, but it took a lot of hits to do it.

So yeah.. it's looking like POB's are finally the force o be reckoned with! Finally! lol Need atleast 2 or more to really be effective so you can split the gunners and prevent the chase tactic. Be interesting to see how they perform in a big event with lots of numbers on each side.

I will say this though. Flying with Bria in her YT1300 as my wing made me feel a HECK of a lot safer. lol. I was able to get 50m off the exhaust of an oppressor that turned to follow her on another pvp fight today. I was like... this is too easy.. pull trigger? let em go? ah pull trigger. LOL

Hehehee.... Im the queen of POBs now... Got that JSF twice... once with the chase tactic... and once in a (big) turning fight... Thats where he got my armor down to 50%... Later I took up my own JSF to really kill the JSF guy (guy had been loadganking Tek sunday) and killed him over and over...

Also got 2 Y8 kills and a Deci... the POB aint -that- scary... just need to get in close

I think patience will be a virtue in dealing with these ships. I already have several thoughts. I'll let ya pick my brain in PMs or ingame Tek, ya big sissy

To stop gushing and get back on point for Tomo's sake, I'll say this. It's a point I made before during other POB discussions, and it's bearing fruit. Simple jacking up of POB stats may not have been the best solution. It seems to have been successful in the early stages of PvP usage (once pilots get acclimated, we'll see if it holds up). However, a big fear of mine has come true, The PvE game is even further trivialized. Maybe this is as intended, but at this moment, there isn't anything I can think of that wouldn't be a piece of cake for a skilled pilot and crew. I'm sorely tempted to face up to some of the things we see asdecent challenges (t5 duties, Lord Cyssc) and see how they go, because the tactics I listed long ago are simple enough for anyone to learn, and make the things I've faced so far a real joke.

Well i took my Y-8 up with a skeleton crew today. Screwed around with space miening a little and then decided to hit deep space. The thing is a PvE tank. We had no problem going in on tier 5 decimator / tier 4 gunnie formations. Even with some fighters picking on it there wasn't a problem keeping the shields up with shunt.

As far as firepower i can't really comment. We only had three weapons installed. 1 elite mineing laser (pilot controlled), 1 Null bolt blaster (6k max bottom rear turrets), and 1 mk3 mineing laser (top turret). The two fron turrets were filled up with tractor beams, which are totally bugged. We did manage to drop the shield gens and engine on the Star Destroyer, without takeing a single point of armor damage.

PvP well... One of the better imperial pilots showed up in his JSF. We lasted about 10 seconds.

I haven't had a chance to take my decimator for a spin with the new gear yet. I figured I'd wait a couple weeks for the prices to come down a bit. But reading all this is VERY encouraging! I remember the first time I read the description of the Decimator and it said "It is designed to outfly anything it can't outgun and outgun anything it can't outfly." Sounds like that description is finally true.

/cartmanvoice This is super-sweet, you guys
