Still remincsing about one of my favorite ships.

Now, most people i know who PvP, consider the Xwing one of the worst possible choices in ships, only a choice a rookie would make. And for the most part i agree, its a relativly large profile, kinda hard to miss it. Infact, everytime i see one overt, i tend to think, "hmmmm candy".

But i still wonder, with the right engine, and the right attitude can it be a successful ship? Offhand compared to a Tie, i think the flight physics are against, but i dont think ive ever seen a good pilot in one either. (they're all in A wings )

I am 9-1 PVP with my X-Wing. I just love that ship. It is so fun in deep space, its almost like I am in Rogue Squadron.

Depends on the pilot.....much moreso than ground PvP, a good pilot in a bad ship is still >> a bad pilot in a good ship, and can be > a decent pilot in a good ship too if they get lucky.

That being said, most pilots good and experienced enough to compensate for the inherent PvP handicap of flying an X as opposed to an A (bigger silhouette, less maneuverable, overkill on weapons) are going to know well enough to fly an A and take every advantage they can get.

I like the X-Wing because I spend the majority of my time in deep space PVE and the X-Wing kills 'em quicker. That is the main reason. And honestly, I rarely see that many people out there. 4 of my kills were from the same guy in Deep Space. My other kills were all in Kessel. I almost always fly overt for faction points and happened to run into some adversaries on a couple of different days.

For a 1v1 it isn't as important what ship you fly but as soon as it comes to battles with more than 1 opponent you sit in a deathtrap. A good X-Wing will maybe be able to fly a suicide missions on those evil missile oppressors (no imperial would waste missile on a X-wing ) and maybe take one down before the Tie/Advanceds kill you.

But then even a B-wing wouldn't do too bad in a 1v1

I'd really go withan A-wing as you are harder to hit, can have the same armor and shields and due to the lack of weapon convergence the same damage output (and with a RE'ed quest cannon thats quite a lot!)

I always fly an Xwing and am considered as one of the top 5 reb pilots on my server and I'm fully respected by many of the imp pilots, especially because I don't fly the Awing.

Frankly yes the awing is only more manuaverable with pitch a yaw. An xwing has a better roll rate and this can be used to your advantage to evade. I'vehad countlessencounter with imps in advance or oppressors or firesprays tell me after a battle telling me the couldn't hit me. If you've got an engine withPYR over 70 plus then your laughing. What you have to remember is that if you fly straight or show your belly then your dead.

Another prob that people claim the Xwing has is convergence mainly because most people use a profile that doesn't include the 3rd cannon slot. The 3rd cannon is needed in pvp i personnally carry 2 xlv 7 and a lv 5 cannon for my third so i can fit it on bored. With overcharges on and by adjusting the 3rd cannon so it fires linked with the 1st and 2nd will solve the convergence prob. The center cannon will certainly rip the shields and some of the armour off a player with one hit, if your aim is off then the the lv 7 cannons will score and cause more damage or possible a kill. If both strike the target then its a clean kill.

2 on 1 then you need to include a missle launcher aswell. Lauching a missle at one target plus aiming at the reactor will buy you the seconds you need to target the second ship with your cannons. But frankly luck is has to be on your side, as it has to be in an Awing if you facing two good imp pilots then it really doesn't matter what your flying.

All I have to say is that it doens't matter how fast and manueverable the ship you fly is if you can't fly it then your dead and if your a good pilot then any ship is good in pvp as long as you know how to use it.

I disagree. An X-Wing can be a force to be reckoned with in a large furball. The key issue is knowing how your X-Wing flies.

You have to use Engine Overload 4. Without it, you'll be a sitting duck. With Engine Overload 4 and a good YPR ~70 engine, your pitch acceleration rate will be over 5.0. This is equivalent to a Tie Advanced or Tie Interceptor. It's slightly superior to the A-Wing in this one dimension. The trick is to roll to place your target along the pitch axis. You *can* win in a turning fight against a more maneuverable craft like Tie Interceptors, Tie Advanceds and Dunelizards by taking advantage of the pitch acceleration. But I recommend that you don't fixate on a target in that fashion in multiple-player engagements.

The other thing that you mustuse effectivelyis your firepower. When other people are corkscrewing and trying to dodge your shots during the merge, you have to be able to shoot them with decent accuracy. It takes a LOT of practice, but it is possible to nail most maneuvering players at 580 meters (the max range of your guns) before they even see a targeting reticle come up for your ship. Remember that the spread of your 3 guns is superior to any other craft out there and play with the patterning. Also remember that your shots will hit EVERYTHING in their path, not just what you're aiming for. Rely heavily on snap-shots for the one-shot kills. Do NOT fixate on an enemy and follow him/her into a turning fight.

In large furballs, team up with another fighter. Make sure that if someone gets on your wingman's tail, you're there to cover for him/her and vice-versa.

good post. in almost every ship it's less about it's drawbacks and more about how to use what you have.

As a very active PVP pilot (TIE Advanced) , X-wings with good pilots are the only ships I worry about. If you put the same pilot in an A, B, Y, or a KSE, I won't even blink. Buta good pilot in an X is something thatkeeps me on my toes. X-wings are far better suited for PVP then they are given credit for.

Intresting reading the other side of the story on this ship.
But like i said, i never met a pilot in one that gave me a good run for my money.

Some of what was discussed ive already thought of. Infact i have a nice L8 engine I RE'd just for an Xwing in case i ever decide to do it. 78 pitch, 74+ (dont remember exactly) Yaw and roll, 95 speed, 23K mass.
