In my opinion, any ship can be viable in PvP. Depends on the pilot.

In my Firespray12 kills to 3 deaths.

In my Oppressor 7 kills to 1 death.

In my Intercepter... hehehe... 10-0 (probably killed more but stopped counting)

It's how you fly that matters as well as first shot and wether or not you have counter measures.

Someone lobbs a missle your way, you best have counter-measures then return the favor.

Don't go headlong into an engagement, that just makes it first shot first kill.

I believe (my opinion of course) that no matter what ship I'm in, and no matter what ship you're in, with proper loadout and experience the better pilot will come out on top. Unfortunately a complicating factor is that Droid Programs need fixing (currently not working as intended wether folks believe it or not) as well as something needs to be done in regards to how ships take damage in PvP.

I doubt a "damage" reduction is the solution, I believe Loomis posted a nice thread on that though....

Well i think theres two ways to look at ship type and PvP in general.

Idealist vs realist.

The idealist will say, it depends on you the pilot and what your capable of.

And thats true.

The realist will say size, speed and manuverablity are king, and the Xwing is at a severe disadvantage, and the odds are not in your favor.

Which is also true.

( I sit on the fence between the two )

The wildcard in all of this, is the skill level of your opposition.

Xwing is the only craft I fly in combat. Sure the A has more maneuverability, but in my xwing I've only been outflown once. Trick is knowing your ship better than the other guy.

Ive got a few things to add here. Im a long time A-wing fan. Flown it for a few months in pvp and got way too many kills to count. In fact there is only one imp pilot on my server that I have a problem killing.

Anyway I recently went privateer and back to reb to get the lvl 8 reward engine. RE'd it to 23k mass 76YPR and 93 speed. Tried it in an X-wing and it really goes well.

Since getting this engine I havent touched my A-wing. Yaw is still a bit of a problem on my X but I can pitch faster than I could in my A. And as roll is really good too I can always keep the enemy on my centreline.

Yes, the X is a slightly bigger hit box than my A. But Im getting as much pvp kills now as I ever did in my A-wing. With the X-wing I have the quality RE'd components to take a hit or two. And still come back and dish out amazing firepower. (3 RE'd lvl6 guns are my favourite option here). This gives me room to mount a RE'd reward shield.

So anyway, what Im getting at is this:

An A-wing is a good pvp option as soon as you RE your lvl 6 reward engine. Thats all you need to do.

To get a good X-wing takes a LOT more work.

For me its a level 8 RE'd reward engine. Three level 6 RE'd guns. A level 8 RE'd reward shield.

So you will likely be able to field a good pvp-capable A-wing long before you can do the same with an X-wing. I really think this is why there are so many A-wings in PVP.

But Ive got to say, I dont think I will be going back to an A-wing anytime soon.

I've gotten 15 kill in PvP with my X-Wing, and have never been shot down. Pretty good, wouldn't you say? I've only recently switched to using an A-Wing, because I love the feeling of speed and maneuverability. But the X-Wing is always going to have a special place in my heart. A beautiful ship.

I don't mind the X-Wing for PVP. Putting high rate of fire, level 7 guns in all 3 slots makes for a wonderful bracket and leaves room for just about any type of missle. The only down side is that you have to remember to open the wings, otherwise your hits don't damage anything. I put 3-4 hits with level 9 guns on a Tie the other night, only to just take out the shields and damage the armor. Of course, I got wasted. I'm 5-1 in an X-Wing and 15-0 in my A-Wing and 1-0 in my Tie Interceptor .

The X-wing is my favourite ship ever mainly because it looks cool but...also, I like a challenge.

PvP wise its hard to use but hell...everyone needs a challenge. I go to DS everyday and I have no worries about out manouvering a pilot in a more manouverable craft BUT, so far I find my weakness with the x-wing is against pilots carrying image-rec missiles since they are virtually unshakeable and counter measures are innefective against them. I use engine ol 3 with a 95.5 TS engine [1184 with engine ol 3], 68 r,p and y and I find this more than effective. Sure, if I could get engine ol 4 to work without frying my config [I need to put the x on some kind of power diet I guess]

I've had many successes against mutliple oppenents in DS with my X and numerous failures too. All you have to do is from the successes, look at what you're doign right and keep doing it and from failure look at what is going wrong and adapt. I think my downfall with th X so far are my weaker shields and ok but too weak for the mass armour. I'm thinking of trying a better shield with light if not any armour and downsizing my config, stripping off missiles and lower power guns in order to get engine ol 4 working...maybe even a les spower draining engine with lower speed..but only if p,r,y were higher.

Please feel free to tell me I'm thinking all this wrong if you're a very very good x-wing pilot because I will happily take any tips and make use of them .

I'm on Bria btw

>>maybe even a less power draining engine with lower speed..but only if p,r,y were higher.

What do you have for an engine now? I dont think EO4 is gonna help you much if your base engine isnt hot to begin with. If your not using an RE'd engine your at a severe disadvantage. Engine is KEY, most important thing in your ship.

For better or worse, here was my xwing from my latest stint at rebel pilot:

-L1 reactor ( i never had any intention of EO4 in this kit)
-L4 RE'd capacitor
-L1 droid controller
-MK II armor (612 armor, 2400 mass)
-MK IV shield (1880ish f/b)
-chaff launcher
-L8 RE'd Engine 78 Pitch, 74ish yaw, 74ish roll, 95 speed, 23K mass, 1500ish drain
-L2 booster, 10 second burn time
-L7 RE'd blaster X 2 ( 3000/2900 damage, fast refire)
-L6 RE'd blaster X 1 2400ish damage, fast refire)
- MK II IR, or MK III photon (both 5900 mass, interchangable)

End result was my corner velocity was about 700ish speed at 65% throttle.
My top speed with boosters was just under 1400 or 1500 (i forget)
Without boosters & foils locked just under 1200
foils unlocked just under 1100
My chassis YPR turn radius was 1.4 on pitch, 1.3 on yaw, and 1.3 on roll.
Firepower wise, my ship was a rapid fire shotgun with a missle option whenever it ticked my fancy.

Now for me to run EO4, id have to give up alot, but honestly, i dont think i needed it that much, but i woudld be at a disadvantage against someone who did. But looking at the overall package it wasnt a sacrafice i wanted to make.

Really? I got killed 2 x in one shot both by an x wing. And on that note is PVP in space Insane? One ##%#@ shot??? I have an m-22 Krayt with a shield of 2555 hp and 3 guns 3700 3500 and 3300 damage. I get killed in one shot by an x wing? Even if he did squeeze some good guns and armor into the smaller x wing IS this screwed up or what ? Is SOE going to fix this at some point? Something needs to be changed like toning down pvp damage or making jtls combat like galactic civil war, where u have neutral- off duty, combatant-pve or special forces- pvp. If they dont fix this soon ill have alot less respect for this game or just end up quitting. I only go overt so I can get good faction points from killing rebel ships. PVP wouldnt be so bad if the poorfool to get hit first looses. Whats the game in south park? " I'll kick you in the nads as hard as I can and then you kick me in the nuts and whoever's still standing wins"

This is a bit off-topic. Youve started a thread about the "way too imalanced" pvp in JTL. That should be enough.

And for your information many people, myself included, like pvp in space the way it is.

Im guessing you have just mastered pilot and went to DS in an oppressor with a tiny engine and massive lvl 10 guns. Then wondered why an X-wing managed to take you down. Instead of figuring out what you did wrong, looking at your ship configuration, and adapting your tactics, its much easier to go on a rant in the forum crying nerf.

Im sorry but you will get no sympathy from me.
