This really depends on what you're looking to RE. For example, if it's a super fast reward engine and you don't want to waste it, then I'd wait untill at least 71.5 on each P Y and R. If you don't feel like waiting (potentially) months for this then 70-71 might be easier to do.

Wouldn't that be lvl 6 engine advice?

That sounds right to me. PYR of 70-71 is about the best you can do on a L6 engine AFTER RE. You would look for >68 PYR for a level 6. >71.5 PYR yields a 75 PYR level 8 engine.

I know I've looted 75.0 engines in the lvl 8 range recently. I thought they got up to around 80 for the really nice ones for pre-re work.

It depends on how long you're willing to wait for those high PYR stats. Personally it's all I can do to find level 6 engines with pyr in the 68-69 range, so 71.5 (that's pre-RE)is going to be extremely difficult to achieve. I know there are some engines with those stats already, but are those engines able to be looted today? I really can't say for sure.
I know it's possible to find level 8 engines around 71 - 72 and higher, but even that isn't easy for the average pilot to find. What I can say for sure is that 71.5 is higher than most people use when RE'ing level 8 engines, so if you can get those stats pre-RE then chances are your engine will be better than most everyone else's. I know alot of people who have a hard time even getting 70 pre-RE.

Been working with a lot of L8 engines lately, and 71 is ok, 72-3 is good, 74+ is great. I have yet to see any break 75.

Thats what I have been wondering. As of now I only have my yaw to 72 pre-RE with about 17 engines saved up. I will just have to keep hunting then.
Thanks for all the input everyone.

As for speeds, I found a non Nym's reward engine with a top speed of 102.6 Pre-RE. Saving that one for some great YPRs...but mine are all in the 71 range at the moment. Oh, the name of the engine was a Republic Sienar something. If I can remember, I'll get the whole name and add it later. This is the highest non-Nym engine I''ve found that is not a pre-nerf engine. Best part, I got it for $50k.

Best engine I have RE'd to 76+ YPR, and 82 speed. Yeah, I know, slow. You can't run from anything, but my turning arcs are so very, verytight. I love this engine dearly. I have tried one with same YPR, but 100+ speed, and no thanks, it does not turn as tight, and I never run from a fight
