Thread: I wand the TIE Defender to become a player crafted ship.

Last time I saw the TIE Defender brought up on this board, it was said that it would be out of the question because it would be far more manageable then anything else in the game and that it would be hence be unbalanced.
Well now that the JSF have become so common, I cant help to think that the that argument has lost all meaning. Just make it as manageable s the JSF, besides it would have a larger hit box. Moreover, if it had 3 gunpoints then it would add a good niche to the imperial arsenal.

And if it comes down to weather 90% of the imperial would fly JSF, or 90% would fly TIE Defenders... well I know what I would choose.

JSF has nothing to do with continuity, they existed before this point in the timeline, so they aren't out of place(not mentioning the mass/maneuverability/firepower imbalance here, that's another discussion). Old things and styles don't just vanish after a set period of time.

The A-wing and B-wing are much more appropriate for this, and while I'd disagree either should be in JTL atm, I'd say the same about the TIE Defender.

That argument, however, seems to go out the window with the current existence of the A-wing and B-wing.

I would say that, if they were going to add it, they should have made IT the Empire's heavy fighter, a TIE with 3 guns and 180k mass(comparable to the heavy X-wing, and giving the Empire a piece of equipment for their fleet that it's sorely lacking). That doesn't really matter, they didn't do it that way.

I can't see them adding it atm, using a continuity and balance argument, convieniently leaving out both the A-wing and B-wing fighters, and the JSF, respectively; at least until they advance the timeline past the Hoth situation(for which they also should have saved the A-wing and B-wing, but ah well).

From this, my intention was to say that it should NOT be craftable, being in a rare-prototype stage(I would suggest maybe throwing Tier 5 imp-style gunships in greater multiples for the mission, to adjust for bomberstrike).

If anything what imps need is the Imperial Assault Gunboat, 4 missile slots, 2 gun slots, 250k-300k mass. Make THAT craftable.

I don't personally have one handy, but picture this:

3 TIEwings bent like the Advanced/Bomber/Interceptor wings around the TIE pod; 2 sticking out the bottom on either side at 45 degrees, and the 3rd sticking straight up, rather triangular. Invert the wings so they are bent outward away from the pod instead of inward towards the pod. The wings are notched away in the middle section, so each bent part comes to a point. Put a weapon mount on each point(3 pairs of 2 mounts). I'm sure there are more details, but that's about it.

there is a problem with this. If the devs add a new imp ship then the rebs and the neutrals would want a new ship.

I said these should be added as strictly NPC targets in a Fondor-zone-based quest a while ago to counter an appearance by the Rogue Squadron in an Executor-based story arc.

But ONLY as prototype NPC ships, ONLY in a specific zone. And of course you wouldn't be able to kill Skywalker, but I'm sure there are some other "Blukes" who could bite it, and you could at least DAMAGE Skywalker into retreating like the little punk kid he still is at this point in time.

Hey why not? I'm fairly certain the timeline has already been bent to add in a few JtL ships. More TIE variants would be fun. What about all the crazy TIEs in the X-Wing Alliance game?
