I was talking to a SW today while shopping around and they told me that the RE components all have to be the same model as well as level. Is this true?

For example, I couldn't mix a level 2MandalMotors "Powermaster" Capacitor with alevel 2 Mon CalamariCapacitor? It would have to be two Powermasters or to Mon Cals?

That is incorrect. Used to be that way, a long time ago.

Currently, you only need to match the type of component (ie capacitor, or armour) and level.

You're in the completely wrong forum...but..

If by model, you mean name the name ( "Income Elite" ,etc.) No, they don't have to match.

If by model you mean component ( Engine, Capacitor...etc.) Yes, they have to match.

Component type and RE Level are what matters.

No, not at all. The only Requirement for REing is that all items have the same RE Level. Beyond that, as long as you have the number of items called for (an RE level of 10 needs 10, RE lvl 10 items; an RE level of 8 needs 8, and so on) then you are good to go... You also need to be a shipwright

Okay, good. I'll make sure to tell my SW that when I get back on. Farming up level 8 engines and shields to RE for my A-Wing.

I disagree about the forum choice.

While REing is a ShipWright ability, it is we who use the products. A great many shipwrights will have nothing to do with REing, At all, or, continue to argue that a Reverse Engineered item is generally inferior to crafted. Space loot is well within our own realm, it is a by-product of what we do. A great many of the arguments that the pure crafters bring forth in their internal debates makes little sense to me. A blaster is not the same in all situations, nor a Booster, etc, yet, reading many of the SW threads, one can get the feeling that to many ship Wrights, they are just that -- A World of Absolutes.

Understanding your ship is central to a Pilot. We have threads which speak of farming, farming, and more farming, to achieve certain, desired results, as well as threads which speak directly to What is possible, where, a good many SW threads speak of creating the ultimate Booster. In their way they are doing the same thing we are; Defining what is possible, and assigning priorities, it's just that, often their priorities are Blanket ones, which, while they fulfill ship wright needs, can never hope to satisfy Ours, except in certain, specific instances, and then, even there, it's likely that a knowledgeable Pilot will ask for a Personaly tailored solution, instead of a generalized one.

Multi-classed Pilot/Shipwrights for the win!

I thought that pretty much all shipwrights were also Pilots.

FYI there are parts out there that don't match the RE level to the part equipment level.

Lets say for example a level 10 driod interface with a RE level of 5.

You can RE that level 10 part with 4 other level 5 ones and have one heckof a uber level 5 part.

There are alot of these type of parts out there watch for them.

Actually, not so much. It has been my experience that equipment stats tend to match the expected levels for their RE number, not their cert number. So it only really helps you if you have something with an RE number higher than the cert number.

Treena_Daal it's people like you why I hardly ever post ANYTHING on the forums. Maybe I should have went into more detail for you.

My example part was a level 10 driod interface. The speed on that interface was 9. but the mass was somthing like 30k.

Since the RE level of the part was LOWER (NOT 10) it was 5 you could RE that part as if it was a level 5 part.

So you got the mass of the level 5 parts but the speed of the level 10 part which was 9.

I have seen weapons, shields, and engines ect... all with odd RE levels that don't match the part level. Again all I am trying to say is watch the parts you loot b4 you sell them off.
