Thread: Work in progress: A-Wing dual role (PvE/PvP)

New A-Wing arrangement tested last night.

L6 RE'd reward engine: 69P, 70Y, 68R, 95.9 speed
Type III Reactor: 12300ish energy
Type IV shield: 1926 F/B
Type III Armor front
Type II Armor back
Type III capacitor: 48.7, 734 energy.

L1 RE'd droid interface: 14.3 Command speed

Advanced Blaster: 2857 Max damage, .33 refire, 23.7 shot energy

Droid Set up: RO4, EO3, CO3, WO2/3 (yeah yeah, sue me ) Cap to Shield Shunt 4.

Last night's score was 2-2 versus JSFs for PvP and had a lot of fun taking on a trio of YE-4s and pair of VT-49s in tight formation. The two PvPlosses were to a very kick ass pilot who broke his stick tagging me the last time, I won our first encounter. The fourth was a loot farmer I pounced who mysteriously vanished after I crippled his ship. No pyrotechnics, just blink and out.

Any thoughts or suggestions (aside from getting off my ass and farming for an L8 RE engine).

Just be aware there's nothing really uber about it at the moment. The Type IV shield gives you some PvE tanking power (for the gunboats), but I felt the pain in every JSF duel. Every inch of performance lag was evident. I've started using rolls and positional shifts to try and stay clear of their shots. Its REAL touch and go right now.

First off, I'd get more out of my rector. From lvl3 you should be getting well over 13000 regen. This should allow you to used EO4 which will of course get you an extra speed boost but also get you a btter turning rate. If you maade yourself an ultralite reactor or something, then drop the armor down a level (or completely) to get the higher regen. With the extra turning you will get hit less and won't need the armor.

Second, run CO4 and switch your capacitor out for a one with lower regen but higher capacity. CO4 doesn't take any extra energy and after you run it, the lower regen rate on your cap will not matter (not to mention you are using a low drain player made weapon anyway). The larger energy capacitence, however, will give you more energy to use during shield shunt.

Finally, the A-Wing has a nice small profile, but that won't save it from missiles. Throw a chaff launcher in there. Should only be around 1k, again drop the armor if you need to, its more important not to get hit that to possibly survive if you do.

I don't think you'll be able to fit a L8 engine in and still have good shields and weapons, just not enough mass in the A-Wing. Plus that's a real nice L6 you've got there.

Its very nice actually, capacitor could do with a bit more energy capactity for helping shield shunts and the weapon could be improved on with a good RE id say, other than that sounds great

If you do the Nym's starmap quest the level 8/ level 7 RE shield can make for a really nice shield. I have one thats 2100 F/B with a recharge of about 15. And still the mass is comparable to a level 7 crafted. (RE'd using 2 different protecto-nets and a low mass level 7 loot.

Personally, I would try to get an Advanced Blaster with about 1500-2600 damage, .260 refire. An RE'd level 7 will be better eventually, but for now, bumping the blaster's speed to the max will help a ton in PVE and some in PVP.

*Gives you medal* Another A-wing pilot...excellent .

Ok, below is my current A-wing setup, oh although now I got a Nyms Starmap quest reward shield which is somewhat better in every aspect.

I know it has a lvl 8 engine but if an A-wing is what you're setting out to 'max out' as your next project, well I think mines a pretty good target to aim for if not better. Heh..I know for a fact almost all if not every part there could be improved a little when it comes to re..it's just I'm not going to sit here looting for eternity so I think what I did get wasn't half bad.

Erm..so yeh what is below is perfectly achievable. Hope you find it helpful.

One thing I will say is this...chaff in an A-wing is a lifesaver and launching an IR II missile in conjunction with hitting someone in pvp with your laser at the same time [which yeh..is real hard but meh ] makes up for the under powered gun.

Hmm...I don't see any reason why if you stick with the lvl 6 engine you couldn't get a lvl 8 reward shield onboard or a lvl 8 gun if you have any. Both might fit on..not too sure though, never tried that config before. I did the lvl 8 gun when I had a lvl 6 engine...but both lvl 8 gun and shield? 'Might' squeeze in.

I've got a few of those, use them on my Freelance alt's ship and my own Heavy X-Wing and B-Wing, my concern was higher energy per shot drain. My own crafted ones are around 2.68 with 2540 max damage. At 27+ versus 23+ and my sincere attempt NOT to use WO3 as a default, it gets a little hairy against heavier targets when the cap is dry.

I've considered the Nym's Reward shield, but the one I have would only be a 1650 f/b after that landing balance happens, whereas my current ones are much better. Maybe after I've got some parts put away for RE'ing. I've also been eyeing that L8 engine, but thinking about the mass increase from the L6 to the L8 and what I'd have to give up, its a hard choice. The maneuvering would be nice, though...

I'll be looking into a different capacitor set up and a faster weapon, just to see how they shake loose. I'll look again at my reactor energy, I may be off there (what I get for relying on my memory).

I got something similar in the works myself.

It's going to take some time, but I hope to have something really nice soon.

I'm working on an A-wing as well m8. I have pretty much the same stats Re'd lvl 6 engine as you. My shileds are looted so nowhere near as high, but I do have armour MkII IR's and chaff. So I'll be watching you closely to see how u get on with this. I normally fly the JSF for singleseater PvP, and the difference between the A-wing and the JSF is noticable to say the least. If, and it's a big if I can find a high enough gern reactor, I may try EO4 to bosst my speed and manouverablity. I'll keep you posted as to what I get, and we can compare notes afterwards

I might drop back to Mk I armor and see about a bigger reactor. EO4 still kills my ship...
