The subject says it all...

1.) I feel embarrassed for asking but seriously:

2.) When I am Master, am I not an Ace?

No difference. Some peeps call it master because of the last box in the tree, the master box. Other's call it ace because you have reached the hight of your proffesion.

Happy Flying.

Master Pilot is the title for a freelance pilot that has completed the profession. Imperial/Alliance Ace Pilot is the title for Imp/rebel pilots for the same thing. Just a difference in the titles of different professions.

i only call people ace if they are actually competent at flying in space and know a lot about ship setup, and handling, not just reached master

Personally I call those that have gotten the master box 'Master Pilots'. I call those that did it as real pilots instead of constant turret-gunners, and those that spent time learning how to fly and select their equipment Aces.

Crixx, Xicrx and Crixxorian Darkmoon - Rebellion, Corsec and Imperial Ace Pilots respectively.

"There's no sensation quite like learning to fly. Tounge-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I." -Pink Floyd
"One/two shot PvP is good because this is a game of EVASION. NOT ABSORBTION" - Big mean heartbreaker.
"Sod implementing anything half-decent, we have SWG to make! OLOL!"
"We already have expertise in space. It's called a brain." - Leaph.

If you've mastered a squadron pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

Too many elitist snobs flying unfortunatly.

According to the X-Wing novels, you become an Ace when you get 5 kills in combat. Which would be equivalent to getting 5 PvP kills without dying.

Though soloing the Kessel missions has a fair distinction between "Earning" your ace wings or just limping your way to Master.

Edit: Epulse and RGI kills would NOT count.

A fair point. Soloing the Kessel missions is a good test of skill but you don't have to solo the vette to begood pilot. Good teamwork is a sign of an ace too IMO. Of course going up with twenty other ships is over kill and you can't really lose with those numbers. However when I first did the vette I was with a few guildmates, A Nova, a Longprobe Y-wing and myself in a B-22. Nova and Longprobe headed for the vette while I drew away the fighter cover and destroyed them. After that I joined the attack on the vette and the gunboats. If you can solo vette's with ease then more power to your elbow.

Happy flying

I would say an ACE has either

1. Completed all 9 pilot professions

or

2. Is regarded as an Ace by OTHERS in PvP.

Can't agree with that, I could ace all 9 squadrons but won't beacuse I RP and don't want to fly for the Empire. That doesn't mean I'm less skilled.

Hence the "Either 1. or 2." bit.
