Thread: Ehem... (stupid question?) What is the difference between Master and Ace Pilot?
Even though you posted it as either/or, both of them are somewhat artifical constructions. Someone who can sleepwalk through one prof can sleepwalk through all nine, and really that's just a timesink.
I'm pretty sure you would have called me an Ace even when I had only one Mastery badge to my name (I left many many toons at 4/4/4/4 for a long time), and before I even once engaged in a PvP encounter in the Live game.
If we're trying to come up with criteria, then it's about knowledge of the space game and how it's applied.
I do understand the point you were trying to make though, that mastering all 9 squads can usually be taken as a sign of dedication that implies some of the other qualities I've mentioned. Nine is just a number though.

According to the X-Wing novels, you become an Ace when you get 5 kills in combat. Which would be equivalent to getting 5 PvP kills without dying.
Though soloing the Kessel missions has a fair distinction between "Earning" your ace wings or just limping your way to Master.
Edit: Epulse and RGI kills would NOT count.

I would say an ACE has either
1. Completed all 9 pilot professions
or
2. Is regarded as an Ace by OTHERS in PvP.
100% totally agree

I would think you will just become really good at beating the AI pilots which can be a bad thing. It can reinforce a lot of tactics thatare just not going to work against real life opponents. I think an ace earned against human opponents is in a totally separate league than one earned againstNPC's.

You have that the wrong way round. I would think that someone who has done all 9 should have at least picked up the knowledge required and reached a point where they can apply it, at the level of an Ace.

Its not all about blowing stuff up, there is a level of complexity below that combat surface which aces intuitively understand. Things like mass management, REing, combat techniques, best use of hyperspace points, etc are all part of the aces skills.
