Thread: Y-8 Mining Vessel The mining vessel that can't mine
There are quite a few ships out there that require larger crews and they are almost never used. All the capital ships including the YT-1300 have proved very ineffective compaired to the same people piloting their own fighters. All those access points and conduits are one big headache that people found are not worth the hassles and bugs. My biggest disappointment in ROTW so far was when I found out this dog of a ship was multi-person. I'm sure I will use it as often as my YT-1300 or my yaucht.... never...

"Such large mining groups might be all of 2 or 3 ships on the entire server. Have you looked lately at how many people the average guild has active these days? The vast majority of guilds can't crew a ship the way your suggesting. Certainly not more than a handful mining ships would even be out shooting asteroids. The resource yield of such a small number of ships isn't enough to get market out of its DOA state. I find your large crew requirement impractical in the extreme"
Point is, you don't "require" someone on every turret. Just because the Y-8 may in theory have 6 turrets doesn't mean they all have to be occupied to run.. it just means more people equals greater efficiency which in my book is far better than just saying "ok whatever your crew size you only need 2 ppl to man a turret". And quite frankly, the less Y-8's there are operating at any given time the better. I would hate to see every asteroid in every system camped by several Y-8's.
This is supposed to be the "elite" of the mining vessels. Adding a larger possibility of crew allowing greater resource yield etc is a step in the right direction.
"Adding more crew does not help much. When you get to 4 or 5 people, its just easier to have 4 or 5 fighters doing the mining than tying these people up with the Y-8"
That is precisely the point. The Y-8 should be such that an entire group of 8 people aboard it is MORE efficient at mining than 8 fighters mining solo.
I'm not saying you have to have a large crew of 3+ to mine with it.. I'm saying the more people you'd have aboard, the more you will be able to collect at any given time.
I was thinking of using the y8 as a sort of capital ship. Mount a huge guns on it, man the turrets, etc... and just go to town.
The heck with this dog, I just want a larger hold for my Krayt...
A multi-player mining ship is worst then useless...
Without a mining cannon, tractor, and some form of defense canon that are pilot controled, I never see myself using it. I am hoping they fix it so I can redeed it rather than destroying it...
puh.. it took me 2h to read thru this thread..
i vote on the following:
give shipwrights 2 new items to craft:
1. a Y-8 tractorbeam that pulls in the big chunks.
2. a Y-8 processingplant that processes the chunks.
This will accomplish the following:
You can park next to a asteroid, use the pilot mining laser to get the big chunks, then tractor it into the ship with the top turret.
The speed (shipwright experimental) of the processingplant might slow the mining but gets more resources out of the chunk then blasting it !
end note, if a small tie fighter canpull the small chunks in it, why cant the LARGE Y-8pull the big ones?
It seems this thread died of it's own size ![]()
shipwright and pilot correspondents dosent seem to agree on wich desk this belongs on...?
please try to work this out ![]()
That guide up there is no good.
You cannot "use" the tractor beam from the pilot seat.
Sure you can toggle it on/off but that does you no good whatsover.
Using a quest reward tractor beam it shoots from the turret it's mounted in sideways out the bottom of the ship, this makes it impossible to line up with anything. Impossible to "use".
Using a crafted tractor beam (which I may add seems to be no where near as good stats as the quest one) when toggled on the beam shoots both from the primary pilot gun slot, and from the top turret provided you havn't got in that turret and moved it around. Both beams fire forward, and can be placed on target (one or the other) with practice, but niether beam does anything they are graphic bugs nothing more. They do not "tractor" in anything, and even if you try to close with the small asteroid chunks to just pull them in they bounce off the ship instead of tractoring.
its Plain and simple, the Y8 is broken. there shouldnt be any mysterious "work arounds" or hodge podge manipulations of the ship to mine. You take the time to do the quest, you get the ship and it should work. This is one of the big features they did introduced with RotW and still no fix. Like many have mentioned throughout this thread, the layout of the y8 is questionable as well. A ship designed to "mine" should outstrip any smaller craft that people rig to mine. Thats like saying its possible that Bob in his backyard garage can produce as many cars as a Ford or GM plant, like serious?
Anyways, I cant fathom why this ship hasnt been fixed. Like alot of people have said, people actually came to this game to try out the mining aspect and the Y8 is clearly supposed to be the workhorse of the mining pilots.
Still waiting to hear about a fix.
