They don't boost that I've seen. Tier 5 Imperials in Kessel max out aroun 908 or so, and decel to about 450 to turn, with Bombers being slightly slower and Interceptors and Advanced being slightly faster.

That reads to me like a kick ass Type IV engine with a YPR of at least 70-75, based on how they outturn me. But no, I've never seen them break that speed cap.

Even with decelleration, they are easy to predict, they always break for a turn beyond 450 meters of lead, and ALWAYS go for your ass end first. Sometimes I swear I could put on Extreme Shield Adjust Rear and never worry about my nose. A mark of their predictability: Last night, I took the Nova to Kessel with just me and a rookie gunner in the top turret. He'd only been in a turret once before. We still kicked ass, with my shields being breached to the rear once with minor armor damage.

actually space seems rather balanced to me for pvp. its fast, fun and exciting. the pob ships should take a couple of more hits but not much.

PvP should be more like PvE. And here is why.

We have to consider the fight between the long-time PvP'er (old ace), and a newly hatched ace. If the new ace goes to PvP and find that all his shills from PvP is worthless, nor almost worthless, he might just decide to drop PvP all together.
If the new ace enjoyed the PvE on the way up to ace then he will likely stick with PvE and not bother with PvP. If he did not enjoy PvE on the way to ace, he might just lave space and just go up when missions require it.
So even if the new ace would have enjoyed PvP as it is, there is a chance he will never get a chance to experience it.

If the new ace stick to PvP despite adversity, he will have to learn while fighting against an old ace who knows all the tricks, have all the pre-nerf rewords, all the top nudge RE-components, and the best fighters. Moreover, very few people learn to swim well by being thrown in deep shark infested waters.

If PvP was like PvE, just with a far better AI, then the learning curve new ace's would be far less steap. Moreover anyone who enjoyed the PvE on the way up, and thus the space content, would enjoy PvP. With that PvPing would become the norm for ace's, rather then the exeption.

If being able to do even moderate well in PvP requires that pilots real the forums, go out get the way to good quest rewords and specific loot peaces, and get then RE'ed. Then 90% or more of the player base will be excluded from PvP (devs have said that only about 10% of the player base reads the forums)

In the end PvP should be a level playing field, where even the looser of the fight comes away having had fun.

i dunno man. all i can think of is the addage "do you wish it were easier or work to become better?" everyone has the opportunity to have the same parts. so all things being equal already its about skill. some folks are just better pilots than others. degrading the playing field so everyone can play is for the ground game not space. good point ya made man, not trashing it at all. i am just and old flight sim nut who believes everyone should be overt lol. now if they would just get the cockpit instruments to work that would be awesome!

Hello All.

I'm checking this board on the advice of my guildleader and after reading these posts thought I'd throw some idea of my own out there.Try these on for size.

There's almost nothing wrong with PvP combat in deep space, Kessel or anywhere else. Leave it alone. The only problem I see is the difference between damage and shield values for PVE tier 5 ships and player ships but it isn't such a problem that justisfies the risk of screwing up the whole system to change it. I can deal with things just the way they are. If you don't think there is enough interest in PvP try creating it. Challenge some people, advertise a bit. Odds are you will get a response. But then don't complain if you get shot down, because you asked for it.

To those of you that think PvP is just a matter of equipment: No Friggin way. Equipment will help, but it all comes down to skill and tactics. I've been very successful in deep space and I'll be the first to admit it's because I'm a low down tricky backshooting snake in the grass. But I'm a Rebel fighting a war against the Empire and wars aren't about honor systems or what's fair. They are about who is alive at the end of the day.My best kills never saw me coming. My dogfighting kills were the combination of luck, skill, tactics and teamwork. But since no one is a civillian in deep space no one should get uptight about getting shot down in there. If you are wearing an Imp uniform and I see you first it isn't my fault. But if you are having a hard time in Pvp and getting frustrated here are a couple of tips for you. First:if something isn't working, change what you are doing. If head-ons are getting you shot out go for an evasive approach. Try different things until something works. Second: Get a wingman. Flying with a wingman is five times as effective and ten times as safe. Learn team tactics and by working together both of you will benefit.

To those of you complaining about reset time when you are shot out of deep space: Get over it. It's the price you pay for doing business. I always fly with four overloads up. They help tremendously but that means it takes me five minutes to get set up for pvp again once I've been shot out. Nor problem. That's the price I pay for doing business.

To those of you complaining about getting shot out while Overt and faction farming:Get over it. The reason why it's risky to farm faction in space is because the rewards are much higher. But the second you put that overt tag up you are accepting those risks and saying it is all right to shoot you.Just as it would be all right to shoot me if you see me looking for you. If you want faction without risk get used to disappointment. If you want faction with little risk stay on the ground.

To those of you worried about ship decay on your JSFs, Grevious, ARCs, whatever:Get over it. These ships are supposed to be ultra rare. If you don't want to risk them, fly something else. Otherwise don't complain when you take a risk and suffer damage. Fighting is risk, otherwise there's no point. This is especially true of the incredibly overpowered JSF, a generation old yet it outperforms the A-wing easily. This ship has lured many guilable pilots into thinking they have to fly a JSF in order to be competitive, that if they don't have a JSF they can't beat a JSF. Completely wrong. Any ship can kill any other at any time with the right tactics, circumstances, skill and luck. I know. I've done it.If you don't want decay on your valuable reward parts then don't use them. Or be prepared to drop master and go up the pilot tree again to get more. Good reward and RE'd parts give you an edge, but that's all. It isn't that huge an edge either. If you want that edge you have to risk the good parts. If you do and they take damage, don't complain because you took a risk. Consider yourself lucky that you can salvage the parts at all. I mean your ship just did get blown to bits, they could have made you get a whole new one you know.

To those of you that insist on comparing this game to X-wing, X-wing vs Tie Fighter, X-wing Alliance:Stop it, it's ridiculous.Outside of some scenery the games have next to nothing in common. The X-wing series was much more rooted in the Star Wars universe while SWG JTL has made many compromises in the name of balance and expediency. In the X-wing series the Empire uses massive numbers to attain victory but their equipment is inferior. Most of their fighters don't even have shields.Think how that would change the piloting in the first three tiers of flying. The rebels have better equipment but much less of it. But if you really want to see the huge differences start comparing specific aspects of these games. Missile performance, for one. There is no comparison. Missiles were stand off and strike weapons in the X-wing series. Here they are pretty much useless against anything except a corvette or a player. How about Ion Cannons? They are supposed to be used to disable a ship's electronics so it can be captured in the star wars cannon. Not here. Am I complaining? Sure. I'm a fighter-bomber pilot, a strike specialist. I'd love to see warheads that were stad off weapons as intended or Ion cannons that did what they are supposed to. But do these defficiencies stop me from killing vettes and I.S.Ds are fighting with players over them? Not at all. So I'll take my own advice and get over it. But stop comparing X-wing alliance to SWG JTL. It's like comparing an apple to a tomato. Outside of a superficial resemblence they are two different animals.

To all of you that will no doubt get on and say I have no idea what I'm talking about: Go ahead. I don't care a whit.I've got 70 plus PvP kills in JTL including 10 JSFs and a Grevious. All of these kills were scored in Y-wing Longprobes except for two of the JSFs. One was shot down flying a two seat Y-wing and one in a B-wing. I have a 4 to 1 kill to death ratio so obviously I'm doing something right. Which doesn't mean there aren't a couple of Imps that seem to have my number on a regular basis. (Skonak, Blackk. which just makes fighting them more interesting.) I PvP the smart way, get my kills, take my lumps and at the end of the day I've had my fun.

Finally, here's my final point.Suggestions? Sure make them. But realize that every time they try to change something in this game it results in a monumental number of screwups, bugs, broken quests, etc. There is nothing majorly wrong with Space PvP at the moment. There are already plenty of broken quests, bugs, reward problems, character badge problems, etc etc in the game and quite frankly I'd rather have the DEVs trying to fix things that really are broken before worrying about new content or changes to old content that currently functions. But if you're going to suggest change, fine. But make sure it's change for reason beneficial to the game and not just yourself. If you are constantly losing at PvP and trying to change that through game design you are complaining, not suggesting. Fix your own tactics, stop whining and let the rest of us enjoy ourselves.

So instead of trying to improve the system or correct its imbalances, you suggest we simply shut up and play?

I'd give you my honest opinion, but Garva would be in here faster than a JSF on an RE'd engine. The short version is: Screw you, if its not working reasonably or correctly based on my experience with a system, I'm going to say something about it.

Speaking as a JTL Beta vet, they can make that AI freakin' merciless, relentless and nightmarishif they want to. If you've ever cursed at the sight of an Aggressor coming after you in Kessel since Live, you ain't seen them at their worst. That turret used to NEVER miss a shot.

Well said Banaster, very well said.

As for the previous poster saying PvP should be like PvE to make it easy for new Aces to transition over....why was this "Ace" not PvPing before? It only takes 3333, maybe 3433 to be extremely competative in PvP. Besides, the PvE challenge is pretty much over at Ace, for me it was fun to lear a new system, meaning PvP.

Don't get me wrong, I was really frustrated playing PvP at first too, I thought all the same things I hear being whined about on the boards too. Too fast, one shot sucks, yada, yada, yada.

It took time, practice and some work to figure out the system, just like any learning curve. Honestly, it was harder back them too. No one telling you what overloads to run, no one knowing how RE really worked, most equipment was best you can loot or get from a ShipWright, and 90% of the resources in this forum did not exist. My first PvP ship, that beat up old Interceptor, probably has 10 chassis hitpoints left, hell, over half were gone from the first big battle we had, lots of people blowing up, and a buttload of frustration, and just enough adrenaline to keep us coming back.

We all learned, those that are PvPing still, know the pro's and cons of what you are suggesting, which is why we post, because we want to be heard too.

PvE is not PvP, will never be. Show me one game system that it is even close. AI will never be a substitute for having a living, breathing opponent, the living do things you never would expect some days.

Rorenikibi,You really don't know what you are talking about for PvP, do you? You don't really do it much, at least it doesn't look like it from the misinformation you percive to be true.

Kharn wrote:

Well, I don't know about the previous poster, but I didn't do it cause there isn't a place to go that has no-decay PvP at 3333+ and I wasn't gonna destroy decent gear. There was no incentive to PvP till after I did more space exploration and did the mastery mission either. Now I do PvP in DS to break the monotony of faction grinding and loot whoring.

Ok, I am getting a clearer picture now. Sorry, on Starider we PvP any system. It is clear many here are talking about DeepSpace exclusivly, and the fact that it is most often one-on-one and with very little warning you are dead. Yup, camping faction will do that for you, and I would probably have to agree it is not much fun.

Why hoard your gear? Use it, get more later...that reward engine toast? regrind pilot quick and get a new one to RE, use crafted engines, they are quite viable these days, save that reward for...uhh, well whatever you save it for...and get used to different engines. Chassis are cheap enough, grab the teir 1 heavy version of your faction and PvP in that. With Cert 2 loot, and cert 7 or lower crafted components only, you can make any of the heavies into PvP ships that are more than capable of surviving and doing very well.

PvP everywhere, it is way more fun in asteroid fields, around staions, etc.

Word.

Truth is, Deepspace is one of the worst places to PvP.

Edit:
That said, ironicly most of my PvP has been In kessle, Dantooine (why yes i am THAT evil), and DS.

As far as POB ships are concerned I have little experience using them in PVP mostly do to the time and effort it takes to find crew. I have had gunners up in my two seat y-wing that have scored successful kills. I have gone up as a gunner for guildmates in their Nova Couriers and while POB ships are definitely at a disadvantage we managed to kill our share of Imps while flying them even if we did get shot out a couple of times ourselves. Personally I am a lousy turret gunner so I would usually run ops.

As far as fighter bombers are concerned they definately have their uses for PVP, especially in deep space or kessel. Missiles are great weapons for corvette strike and Pvp combat. A big ship like a y-wing or an Oppressor can be configured to be an effective fighter or striker, without having to change the loadout between missions. Also as an example is a Y-wing fitted out wiht Re'd reward shield and heavy armor one shot kills do not happen. With Cap shunt three you should be able to hang in a fight for at least twenty seconds. In fact in my two seater my gunner and I were able to dogfight with a JSF for over a minute. He brought our shields down several times and chewed up our armor, but before he could get through a friend in a firespray nailed him at range with a missile. So even if your just playing decoy to set up someone else's kill you have a role. Besides carrying missiles the y-wing can mount heavy guns boresighted right on the nose, easy to aim. With an RE'd lvl 8 non-reward gun and an Re'd lvl 10 gun No component on the ISD survives more than one pass except the bridge. That generally takes three passes. In kessel I can routinely kill a corvette in a Y-wing or B-wing without serious damage. When overt players show up I am in a perfect support vehicle for other team members who fly the faster more maneuverable ships. I can stand off with missiles or line up a good shot while they keep the enemy dancing. Or if they focus on me I can play the heavily shielded and armored decoy These tactics aren't always effective but most of the time they work fine.

I really don't believe there is anything major at fault with the PvP systen in SWG JTL as it exists in its current form. Maybe a few tings can be improved, maybe not. But I'm far more worried about the damage an inadequately tested Publish will do than I am about any defficiencies currently there.

Well said Banaster, very well said.

As for the previous poster saying PvP should be like PvE to make it easy for new Aces to transition over....why was this "Ace" not PvPing before? It only takes 3333, maybe 3433 to be extremely competative in PvP.

Question to you guys who think there's nothing wrong with current PvP:

What's the use of the Heavy Bombers and PoB ships in PvP? Most people fly Interceptors and Superiority Fighters(with some loonies/good pilots flying strike fighters ) right now. Is it your opinion that PoB ships just don't belong in PvP engagements?
