i think POB ships are great in pvp.... they do need to be beefed up just a tad, but we use one jsut about everynight. the crew is anyone under master pilot needing xp or needing missions done and wanting to have some fun. now we do have 2+ escorts at all times. the POB ship provides an excellent gunning platform for the escorts and the escorts well just do their job. the nova is fully loaded with ordinance and that is a big plus when it locks on. goin to deep space and waiting is like going to theed and standing around for pvp. get a group up, declare, do some missions or whatever. there is a reason they refer it to hunting

Be careful mentioning multiplayer ships around twitch kiddies. It offends them that they might have to cooperate withsomeone to succeed at anything.

As it stands now, the POBs and Heavy fighters really have no role in PvP, which is primarily about pilots in high performance ships trying to outdo other pilots in high performance ships. POBs and Heavies were designed to tackle targets MUCH bigger than they are, which makes them vulnerable to something lighter, yet capable of carrying an equal amount of firepower.

Consider the B-Wing. Aside from POBs, they have the worst maneuverability, but the greatest amount of firepower, exceeding even the POBs (I have a B-Wing set up with 4 3200+ max damage weapons). They are single pilot ships, and all the weapons are forward aiming. It was designed with one purpose in mind, taking out targets substantially larger than itself. It doesn't turn well, so it cannot effectively engage a target that's too much more maneuverablethan it is. Given that there are VERY few PvPing players in other heavy Fighters or POBs, the role they were meant for has no real place in the current scheme of PvP.

Now, it is a 240k mass ship, so it can potentially have a huge engine, a couple of powerful guns and an effective shield system, but if consider the maneuvering difficulties and the fact that very few enemy ships have defenses that make ultrapowerful blasters even needed in PvP, there's no point to it.

I've got a ship set up now that will probably be a real threat in PvP, but its not mounting more than a 2900 max damage blaster. Why would it? The best fighter grade shields don't exceed 1925 or so points of protection, and armor is generally considered dead weight. A 4000 max damage level 10 gun in PvP is pointless overkill. I shed some weapon weight, and put a high end Type IV engine in the back with a decent set of shields and some level of armor protection.

Hell, if you think about it. A mere Heavy Blaster, withan 1800 point max and Weapon Overload 4 would likely be more than enough in PvP, saving that much more mass for a bigger engine or bigger capacitor.

Something to think about the next time you head for DS. If you go to reset your programs, ask yourself what you're likely to be shooting at and ask yourself if it makes any more sense to throw 13,000 points of damage at 2900 points of protection.

Speaking as a JTL Beta vet, they can make that AI freakin' merciless, relentless and nightmarishif they want to. If you've ever cursed at the sight of an Aggressor coming after you in Kessel since Live, you ain't seen them at their worst. That turret used to NEVER miss a shot.

man i used to hate that rofl

I'm glad Y-wings don't have turrets, hearing about those Aggressors scared me in beta... oh, wait, the player ones do, just the NPCs forget to hire a gunner. O.o

i hear ya man and great points. we use our heavy fighters / bombers to go after the enemy's heavy fighters / bombers. its a shame combat is so different on other servers. the bwing does excellent in pvp. its role is of a heavy fighter/bomber in our group. basically they see a POB ship and go at it. each ship does great. as long as you use them properly for their roles.
