I guess its a matter of point of view. I think the non-decay is a temporary fix. Look at it this, another, way: no decay for master pilots equals no money loss (I haven't died in "normal" space in quite a while and even if I had problems, I'd head to deep space to die a peaceful, free death). The amount of loot (= chassis sale money) in the game right now for master pilots is just over the top without some sort of sink. They won't end chassis sales - probably more-so for selfish DB reasons. So what does that mean long term? Something has to give. I like the loot (because I feel like my SW role is secondary to pilot) so I'd rather decay come back.

If that's whining, then so be it. Its a far cry from the "please don't make me have to pay for SOMETHING in the game" sort of whining prevalent.

edit - damn spelling problems

Acutaly ive been giving it some thought and i think the crux of this thread from last week is how you view PvP.

Deathmatch or War?

If you view PvP as more or less a deathmatch where just you and some other guy are slugging it out, then i can see having decay.

However, if you view PvP in deepspace as allout fullscale war, then i don't. Reason is, i expect to die.... ALOT. Infact i expect to die as many as 15 times or greater in a game session (1 to 2 hours). And its not because i suck, its because if its a full scale war, i expect to get nailed, from any angle. I may score 1 kill or i may score 5 kills before im blown out of the sky and forced to respawn. I may see the guy who smoked me, i may not, but that to me is just how it is.

It seems to me SOE had intended deepspace to me a full scale, objective oriented war zone. Defend or assault rebel station or ISD. My objective is to defend or assault. I may score some kills, i may not, i may have a 1/1 kill ratio, i may have a 3/1 or 5/1 kill ratio, but the objective is to defend or assault.

In a scenario like that, a person should really really do expect to die.. ALOT. The thing is, with full decay, how many people do you think would play? Not many id wadger. I dare say even a self supporting SW wont play very often. I think sony's intent in no decay in deepspace was to coax more people into playing. So if you don't want a full on war, sure fine, have your decay, because with it, we wont ever see a full on war. But if deep space ever develops to how it should be, your better off without it.

If all you want is a deathmatch, then i think your setting your asperations a bit low. I expect a WAR. You know, a galactic war. Of course, theres some people who just can't handling dying alot regardless of their kill/death ratio, it bruises their ego too much.

Ok, there's an explanation I can respect. I can appreciate that point of view. And maybe Kessel was even supposed to be the one-on-one zone before it got changed.

But without some sort of reason to not just run back in, and with the small amount of actual fight time, it'll be just a matter of who has the patience to just keep coming back again and again and again. Some sort of time-out or a reduced decay or something. A war zone should have a little bit of fear built into it.

Personally, though, I'd like to see it as an area to do both.

Well, I'm a pilot and I won't bother with deep space or pvp until there is some kind of decay. Now, I'm also a shipwright but I'm not public so I don't care about selling stuff. I don't need to. I made more than enough money as SW and I continue to make a lot more of it in space as a pilot. The shipwright angle isn't what bothers me.

I've played other games where pvp is the focus (shadowbane for instance) and unless there is some kind of risk involved, really what's the point? Right now I can die out there and just head right back up again with no thought about consequences at all. Its silly.

The people who cry about decay being there weren't in deep space for the right reasons. They were probably only loot hunting instead of looking for pvp. Bring back decay and make those types of people stay in the planetary systems where they belong.

You want to see some real action in deep space? with real pilots? bring back decay and allow the winners to get the credit chips of the losers or at least SOME kind of compensation. While we're at it, lose the faction based fighting so I can take friendly fire hits as well forcing people to concentrate on where they're firing.

The above statement is so patently absurd that it leads me to question wether the above even plays the space game..
Until they removed deep space decay pvp was mostly dead across the servers.. Removeing decay brought back pvp in deep space... What is currently hindering further developement are the prices of ships and components.. The deves need to do something so the production of the stuff becomes cheaper... Id like to see the resourse requirements cut in half. Pvp is currently POINTLESS if there is decay. You might as well just give your credits away.. cause you will go broke pvping in space (unless your a shipwright that has already made his money)

Again, folks... we went through the whole idiocy when people cried for "death in pvp should have a sting". SOE put in decay, and PvP died. Face facts, folks: If youhave decay in PvP a lot of people won't pvp at all.

Stop making these illogical comparisons to Real Life in order to rationalize something that you dont't agree with in the game. Its just ridiculous.

I'll try this one last time, slowly... SWG is NOT a simulation.. It is a role playing game.. it is fantasy sci-fi... Get it now? If you want a simulation.. go find a different game..

umm... You sound more and more like someone that has little to noexperience in simulations... as though your perspective on gaming is limited solely to Nintendo and X-box platforms... let me guess...

Well, this has certainly degenerated into trolling responses from people who, its pretty obvious, have little or no PVP experience and/or are not aware of the game's history or in fact how the space game is played. I remember having huge amounts of PVP battles a few days after this game went live and having to get back to my corpse and retrieve the items on it. Most of those people I used to pvp with in this game have certainly moved on with all the changes soon after. I know a few people who came back to the game with JTL and who have since quit again because its only gotten worse.

To get back to the original thought from Ducimus, who seems to actually be able to carry on a conversation about this -

If SOE had put the space equivalent of forward bases and multiple jump points of varying distance from the objective based on what side controls the jump point, oh, and took out PVE from the zone so that bad-pilot carebears up there farming for loot who get killed don't have to worry about their pre-nerf engines or their buff-earned cash, the idea would be an interesting one.

But as it stands right now, being able to just run back in without delay or worry, I think it will be relegated to painfully organized guild events only occasionally happening, once the newness of it rubs off.

Introduce scoring and ranking.

No need for decay in deep space, but the penalty for death should be a lower pilot rating above your head, that gives people a reason to fight, raises the pulse and generally makes the whole thing more fun.

I'd agree with that. Plus you might be able to see what the hell you're getting into if you're going to attack that person. Make it appear only when you close in so suddenly you're thinking "oh crap... what did I do..."

And make it appear only in deep space so that you can brag all you want, but if you just hide out on the ground no one will see it.

You can't just run right back in and be at full power. There is "downtime" for running droid commands. Dunno about you but I run 4 every time I go up, even with a pre nerf (or asI like to call them pre-fix) DI, it still takes 3 minutes before I'm ready to load back into DS. Less downtime than getting fully re-buffed on the ground, but more so than clone zerging, so it seems kinda balanced to me... Also another problem with the current decay system I could see is decay griefing. Your enemy has a better engine than you? Well beat it into nothing by targeting it and only it! Pretty soon you and your buddies can have his engine down to neigh useless. If you look in pistoleer, under pistol tech 1, the description for disarming shot says: This ranged attack is used to hit your opponent's weapon. Some believe this was intended originally to cause condition damage to the targets weapon. The devs, in either thier foresight or the most briliant blunder they ever made, didn't add this "functionality" as it would have lead to people taking pistoleer just to run around breaking other peoples weapons. Giving people the ability to break other peoples toys generally doesn't translate well into MMOG's (granted armor decays from damage, tho in the same way as PvE, I've never had an NPC repeatedly target me for the express purpose of disabling). Also if you don't eject fast enough, and your disabling invulnerability wears off, your foe can come in and take out whichever targetable component they didn't get the first time, further compounding decay to those specific components.

26 years old with a masters in biology/nursing, but However were not here to discuss my age or credentials. Were here to discuss why pvp decay is bad. Ive played many games, and this is not a simulation. If you would like to discuss my age and education further.. Id love to arange a real life meeting out here in Syracuse... I bet dispite my ALS, that it would be interesting, I always got the time. Other wise keep on subject, and leave your insults on another board. Have a nice day.

Right on Arryth, I might disagree with you nearly all the time but I support you here.
