Thread: My REVISED Idea For New Pilot Content
Now, general space missions (some of which feature transport of cargo and such things, and most of which include killing people, even for so-called non-combat characters) are perfectly fine and should be under the 'general space mission terminal' category, but space really needs separate profession terminals. If you make Bounty Hunter terminals in space with NPC bounties trying to escape in a ship, Smuggler missions with actual smuggling, etc. - well, you better have to be a BH or a Smuggler to be able to use them.
When a space mission description says 'Xhea Nedart, a known Rebel supporter has to lay low while preparing for his next assignment. He is on his YT-1300 near XXXX,XXXX and needs someone to perform cosmetic surgery to alter his appearance as soon as possible', I'm expecting only Rebel Image Designers to be able to take or complete it, and I really hope the game will go in that direction (profession-specific space content) instead of just lumping everything together.

Why not this.
Give Imperial ace pilots missions to hunt, capture, or kill Rebels, or missions to haul people/medicine/parts.
Give similar missions to the Rebel aces, just reversed.
To RSF and Corsec, give them policing missions, to stop smugglers, pirates, whatever.
And to us NON-smuggler SA aces, let us PIRATE! Let us inspect and dock with those freighters and actually get what is says they are carrying. I'd be thrilled if I managed to loot even a shipment of ugly clothes I could try to sell off on a bazaar. Or a load of resources that I could try to sell. I'd die happy if I could get a mission for a tier five frighter guarded by tier five guards that I could try to disable with my YT and a crew, and actually STEAL whatever the ship had. If they could continue telling me that 'Pirate scum like you doesn't deserve to live' that'd be a plus.
And finally, for the smuggler aces, the ones that spent the skillpoints to get smuggler, Impy, Reb and Nuetral alike, let the poor guys and gals have the smuggling. Of spices, weapons, contraband, people, missions where they have to meet a contact, pick up a cargo, hit a few waypoints in space, and then land somewhere and talk to a contact to complete the mission. Make opposing forces attack them on sight, but give the smuggler the option of seeing the hostiles and avoiding them if they want. Like it was said, a successful smuggler never fires a shot.
Now we're cooking with gas! This is a great idea. It gives everyone the content and keeps the smuggling exculsive to the smuggling profession.
This is just a load of crap. I'm sorry.

Hear hear!
I would like to see this as well.

Vrond, I agree.
In fact way back in JTL beta I repeatedly asked the question; What exactly is the connection between the ground game and the space game? What does one offer the other?
Of course we never got any answers to that question and I still think it is the major problem with SWG ground and JTL.
No flames intended, just another smuggler who doesn't agree:

Now I'm sure some people would find this very boring. Well, perhaps a life of crime is for you? Perhaps you would like to live life like Han Solo? Then the Smuggling Mission Terminal (SMT) is for you. The missions listed on the SMT would be much like those on the CHT, but not quite so legal. These missions would again be available to everyone, but Smugglers would get many perks at these missions.
just my two-cents, and I'm sure my smuggler brethren have already said this, but I'll say it again. smuggling should be accessible to GROUND SMUGGLERS ONLY. oh, and SCREW the "smugglers get bonuses" thing. No one should be able to smuggle unless they are smugglers. no one.
/rant off
thank you

Well, either that or push for lightsaber certs at Novice Anything and Mandalorian helmets instead of Maroj melons. (both will happen sooner or later...
Still, like someone said, don't mistake passion for anger. And when we do seem angry, it's almost definitely not at you. We have certain other, more deserving targets for our history-induced rage.
When it comes to the suggestion itself, I'm actually open to the idea of letting non-Smugglers take very low level smuggling missions, but I'd want a system comparable to the aforementioned weapon certification metaphor: sure, you CAN use this rifle (or take this mission) you're not certed for, but it'll probably get you killed. It certainly won't be a very effective use of your time. However, a non-Smuggler would still be able to give it a shot, to get a taste of what the profession-based missions are like and whether it's something he might want to invest skill points in. I'm a big fan of systems that strongly dis/encourage certain styles of play rather than dictating them outright, and allowing non-Smugglers a chance to run the lowest-level missions, while also setting it up so their chances of success without Smuggler skills is borderline woeful, seems like an excellent way to restrict the real smuggling content to Smugglers while giving everyone else an idea of whether they'd like it, along with a fun new way to get themselves killed.
This does seem like the kind of addition that would require other large introductions as well, however. I love the idea of pilots being able to accept FedEx missions and, perhaps dependent on the payout of the mission, opening themselves up to piracy from other players, who could in turn be interdicted by CorSec and RSF pilots or even rival pirates (who could also be a threat to upper-tier Smuggler missions). At ace, NPCs really aren't much of a threat, so I think a system that included lower-reward missions where one would face NPCs and higher-reward missions that open oneself up to various forms of PVP would satisfy both those who don't care for PVP and those who see it as the only true excitement in the endgame.
This would, in some ways, be a departure from the focus on the GCW, essentially allowing the "neutral" factions (lawbreakers and law enforcers) to declare against each other, but I think the criminal element is the biggest piece of content currently missing from this game and would be welcomed by a good number of players. Ideally, Smugglers would play a specialized role in a much vaster realm of piracy and police, one in which any pilot of any faction could become involved.
