I can assure you because of people like you, my next game will be a PvE ONLY game. Im tired of hearing this kind of crap honestly, and its just total crap. Done arguing this stupidity with such a moron, only to have constant insults flung at me about my lack of maturity for not enjoying the same kind of game that you enjoy.

I guess its wrong for me to expect a game company to cater to their majority. What can I say. I will not try to play a game where PvP and PvE coexist, because people like you, will always seek to make people like me participate in PvP simply because you dont have enough people who want to PvP to amuse you.

At any rate, Im sure you can find a PvP game that suits your needs. Oh wait, they are not popular enough to even mention, wonder why that is!

Go play shadowbane IMO.

Keep looking for that PvE only game. You might start noticing a trend out there: MMOG developers are INCREASING PvP in their games. WoW has more PvP than SWG. City of Heroes next expansion, City of Villians, is specifically to add PvP to the game. I thinnk you'll be taking the blue pill cause IIRC the Matrix Online will be placing rare code bits in PvP areas as incentives to go there.

You're not being insulted because you don't enjoy PvP. I've already said that's perfectly fine with me. She's a little country. He's a little rock n' roll. You're being insulted because you don't want anyone who may enjoy PvP to have ANY incentive. If you cannot have something because of your choice not to participate in PvP, then nobody can have it. Make no mistake, you're being insulted for your lack of maturity and nothing more.

OK since we are all adding our 2 cents we should have a couple dollars by now.

Now I'm a middle of the road player. I like PvP, its real fun when you get some pitched battles going, especially when you have someone like CM who can sway the tide of battle. I love it when the talents involved in a fight can change the progression. But at the same time I like to log on and do a bit of grinding/sightseeing without worrying about being decimated by some l33t speaking griefer.

Now for space I have been grinding my heart out to make master, and I realize when I get there there is nothing left but PvP. And I can handle this, but I don't see how perma overt is going to solve anything. That is PvP WITHOUT incentive. And I for one will walk away from forced PvP. I nearly did when the imperial crackdown hit as the reason I started this game was "consentual PvP". It still irks me that a covert imp can walk around without worry of being flagged overt(well as long as he avoids the ocassional faction scanner) But that rant is definately a dead horse.

Arguing back and forth the same argument is getting us nowhere. It looks like the some of the main problems in this thread are:

No PvP incentinve
No Challenge upon Master
Obvious lack of content
Keep the game fun for PvE

One Idea that may work is to take an example of how Dark Age of Camelot handled PvP. For those of you who aren't familiar with DAoC PvP was only allowed in a certqain zone which was equally accessible from all factions. But in the PvP zone were Keeps that could be invaded/occupied and lost. and As one faction gained an upper hand their realm got bonuses of one type or the other.

So bring this to space.
1. Set up a massive FFA PvP area, where you don't have to be faction aligned, you can shoot anything that moves(except maybe your own faction members).

2. Place a bunch of Outposts/moons/space stations that can be invaded and occupied.
- Make them a combo of space combat and ground combat
- Do bombing runs until the shields fail, then drop off your attack force
- this would make MPS ship more useful as they would be combat and transports

3. As the tide turns in who controls what, then each faction gets crafting/combat bonuses in the ground game.
-this would give incentive to EVERYBODY (as we can all be pilots) to participate in the civil war(PvP)

That idea takes care of PvP incentive, challenges for master pilots, and adds some content. All without destroying the PvE that is already in place.

EQ2 is one of the most hyped games recently and has ZERO PvP afaik, and plans on remaining that way. EQ1 is mostly PvE and remains one of the largest MMOs in NA.

And that's what needs to be corrected here. SOE does need to stop catering to you because you represent fundamentally wrong thinking. That you deserve something that you didn't earn. The majority of the people on the planet would gladly accept anything given to them for free. It doesn't mean it's right to cater to their every desire. And most rational, mature people on the planet have no problems accepting that they may have to meet condition in order to receive certain things. Most have no problem accepting that refusing to meet the conditions that may apply will disqualify them for receiving things. So it's not a "pissing your majority off" issue. The real majority is mature enough to accept the consequences of their choices.

This doesn't make an ounce of sense.

1. If he kills a Krayt, and gets its' skull... then he's earned it. How does the fact that it's PvE and not PvP indicate that he hasn't? Krayt skulls aren't "free".

2. SWG is a game, not a job. He's not asking his boss for a raise while sitting on his butt all day. He'splaying a game thathe pays for every month. To say he should have to PvP as the only way to get stuff in the game is like your cable guy saying you have to watch 5 hours of Home Shopping Network to get HBO. But that's the problem with the current SWG mentality, which is: "toil, grind, to get uber stuff. Then wonder why you're Master of all and still bored." This is a GAME. You play with PEOPLE. Go find a group and have a blast.

3. Everything should be fun,AND should further you thru the game. That which isn't fun to at least somebody, should be chucked to the cyberbin. I don't like the PvP system in SWG. On the ground, in the air, it pretty much just bites. So I don't do it. I'll scrap all day on Battlefront, or Tekken, or any other game. But SWG just plays like a game that's not designed for PvP. Probably because, FUNDAMENTALLY, it isn't.

4. "Fundamentally wrong thinking"? Dude, stop with theright wing radio talking points. The election is over. SOE will cater to its' customer base, which is largely PvE. If it don't, it'll lose money, disappear, and then everyone who plays will lose. You've gotta cater to your base. I would expect that one of your polarity would understand that.

5. I only agree on one level, which is that PvP should be fun, and rewarding. Everything in the game should be. In SWG, it's little on both counts. But you consider PvE to be nothing. You believe that PvP'ers should OWN everything. That's not the way the game was made, and it's better off for it. Not perfect, but it does what FPS's and strategy games can't.

1. This may not apply to you but the Carebears need to stop using conflicting arguments to justify their stance. Either being vulnerable to PvP does absolutely nothing, in which case their objections are groundless. Or being vulnerable to PvP adds Risk above what a situation would have without being vulnerable to PvP. Addedrisk which should be rewarded, It's not both.

2. You're arguement is built upon the belief that your agreement with whatever conditions may apply to achieve something is necessary. It's not. If you don't agree with the conditions that may apply to achieve something or receive something, that's a personal issue for you to resolve. But your agreement isn't necessary.

3. You don't find PvP in SWG fun. Idon't find PvP fun in any game whenmy game becomes more burdensomewith zero incentive or reward for the added burden.

4. Catering to your playerbase is fine. There are people in this playerbase that enjoy PvP. They are a part of the playerbase and it's not catering to them to make them go without reward or incentive because others don't want to participate. vnicula had another thread about simply adding a title for those who did the Master mission while flagged for PvP. Just a title and no requirements to be flagged to reach master pilot. And it was burned by the Carebears because they couldn't stand the thought there would be a title they couldn't have because of their choice not to participate.

5. That is the argument here. People keep making up excuses for why there is no PvP going on. Most of those excuses are pure BS, Why go to Deep Space, which in itself requires travelling to a system + flying to a station to go to Deep Space, when you can get everything there (and more) without the extra burden? There are no duty missions in Deep Space. No components that cannot be gotten from lower tier NPCs. The only difference between Deep Space and Kessel is an ISD and a space station to destroy. "I play SWG to take part of the Star Wars Universe". The Star Wars universe is about a conflict between the people inhabiting it. That conflict cannot be adeqately represented by scripted objects. That conflict cannot be represented by duel between two pilots where the winner gets nothing and the loser loses nothing. There can't be a conflict if there's nothing to win. Which part of what this argument is about: having something to win. A goal that you may or may not attain because the toughest opponent possible in a game like this may stop you from attaining it. Another player.

  • Worlds of Warcraft

  • City of Heroes: City of Villians expansion

  • The Matrix Online

  • Guild Wars

Enjoy EQ2. Most MMOG developers have more than realized that PvP can and should play a role in their games.

It's funny the City of Heroes was mentioned. I've always thought that that game shoulda been PvP right outta the box. There's little else to do in the game other than beat up bad guys. You literally run from place to place blowing up stuff and beating up bad guys. No alter-ego, no batcave, no diner for The Tick, you just go beat dudes up.

They shoulda just made it a stand-alone with MP support. But the point, as I'll relate it to our sitch, is that you boot COH swinging. It's a boxing ring, SWG is not. And as has already been said, the main reason for someone to want forced PvP is to catch folks unaware and kill them pretty much to cheeze them off. Otherwise, they'd be doing Battlefront or Alliance. I've met these people, believe me, that's what it's about. "Man, we just kept killing the guy over and over, and he finally gave up and logged. It was great."

My first and last trip to Deep Space, at least til' they fix it:

I went in and took out a Gunboat with my Y-wing. I didn't do it the 550m way, I strafed it. My shields were pretty low, and I lost some armor. I start targetting out, andcatch a guy in an Oppressor coming up on my 6 about 1500m away. I turn to face and hit the booster, and he retreats. I couldn't catch him(Y-wing), so i went back to business, shooting bad guys but keeping him targetted. Soon enough, when I was fully engaged, he started creeping in. I easily outran the shuttle, and turned toward him again. He retreats again. Pointless. I hypered out.

SWG be not PvP.

Yeah I got a big laugh out of it for a couple reasons but really dont care so long as it would be only a title. At any rate, vnicula mastered when kessel was nearly empty as did the majority of early masters, so I didnt even think that any special title was warrented for that reason.

And as has already been said, the main reason for someone to want forced PvP is to catch folks unaware and kill them pretty much to cheeze them off.". That's immaturity talking. Both on the part of anyone that actually says it. And on the part of anyone that actually believes it's the main reason.

Nah, it's me paying attention to the bubbles.Nearly every observation I've seen of PvP is either sparring("No fair, you kiting like that!" says the TKM to the Pistoleer), or a couple BH's repeatedly killing a Jedi. Or a half dozen dark jedi plowing thru everybody(must get boring). Or people getting picked off in the cantina. Though there was one PvP invasion on a local reb base which was fun, and seemed almost legitimate...

But, while I don't believe that all or even most PvP folks are immature losers(me, of course, being one if the game is right), the contrary has been my experience in SWG. The PvP base in SWG are simply more likely to be younger. Most adults don't have time to grind jedi, they are more likelyto havetime to hop in a ship in Alliance, or join a FPS server. And the difference shows. You've still got your Uberdorks in other, quicker games, they just don't get to be uberpowered, unless, of course, they hack, then they get booted. That's why they come to SWG.

I do believe that PvP should have its rewards. There should be as much advancement in true faction based PvP as there is in PvE. I simply hear one of ya's saying there shouldn't be any, and the other saying PvP'ers should own.

Me, I believe in options, and balance. And when you remove balance, you remove options. You can say all day that a personalways has a choice; that if they choose not to do something, then they should be happy with the consequences of it. So let's go overMY choices, shall we?

I think the idea of buffing is extremely lame and couldn't possibly be any less Star Wars. So I choosenot tobuff. I think it's lame to spend hours on your body and face in beginning of the game just to cover it with armor(especially being TK/Pistoleer), so I choose not to wear composite. So now, I'm a Master Pistoleer/Master TK/Smuggler who can be owned by a buffed novice with composite and a gaffi stick. And I'll be dag diddily amned if I'm gonna sit and HAVE to be buffed 24/7 and sitting in composite while shopping for ship parts because of forced faction. Or maybe I should CHOOSE to die? Nuh-uh. My making those choices means a complete withdrawl from PvP, so I guess I'm fortunate that I don't like PvP in SWG.

The same goes in space. When they've fixed PvP and I'm ready to scrap, I'll be in there. But if becoming a master EVER puts a target on my ship involuntarily, my subscription will be over, as will many others.

Some PvP titles would be cool; base it on your PvP rating. But yeah... seems silly to me to make a separate title available to a handful of people especially in a situation nearly as sadas getting a badge for blowing up the DS Star Destroyer.
