Just guessing, based on what I've seen so far, and SOE's bad habit of slipping in major changes without too much announcement, but with preliminary architecture showing:
* Space and atmosphere will be hard to bring together, because of the way we zone from one to the other. Since we have a playbox upstairs in space and don't really approach the planet.
* We're more likely to see airspeeders implemented for atmospheric flight in 3D. This will overlap with the pointy-twitchy-clicky changes on the ground, so we can line up the blasters and hose dirtboots. The guys on the ground will have something to shoot back at us, probably disturbingly effective to prevent us from just smearing them all over the place, over and over. This will probably be something in the form of (finally) armored ground vehicles, and we'll (hopefully) have some sort of rock-paper-scissors relationship between flyers, vehicles, and infantry. Probably take them a year if they do nothing but fix NGE bugs and work on this, so no use holding your breath right now.
* We'll be able to land, and have our ships render, in the bays of space stations. They have the architecture now for a clear, renderable landing zone, unlike the ground starports. When you use the terminal, your ship appears, or is brought up from storage, or you always see your own group's ship, or something. There will still be a zoning segue between station and space. Maybe we'll be able to land with gunners still in turrets and have to use the turret guns to blast holes in things, or swarms of insane droids or something before we disembark.
Just guessing. Maybe this time next year somebody will necro this post and point out the magic of my psychic/Force prescience powers.
