If the modern tank can have a gyroscope to allow the barrel of the gun stay in one positon, while the tank is driving over rough ground, I can not see why many thousand of years later a turret on a star ship can not have the same gyroscope to allow the same think.
People want to have fun, and for most people flying straight and not having a blaster to shoot is not that fun for a pilot. They need to add one extra blaster hard point for the pilot to use and place in gyroscopes into the turrets, so pilots can have fun dog fighting a bit and still have people hit something.
Not everybody has team speach to allow fast communication, and right now that is what you need to make a MP ship work well.

Ok so my PvP example only proves the point that PvP has to be fixed. I don't think so. PvP is broken for everyone, but for everything but MP ships all that is needed is some tweaking to either damage levels or shield power.
The fact is MP ships are not used for much except PvP, since you have to be a master before you can fly one. Sure sometimes a new master loads up a crew just so he can go play around with his new ship. That usually lasts about 30 minutes or until the first bugged alarm or plasma leak.
The way turrets are set up now makes MP ships utterly useless in PvP. I know your gunners can hit something if the pilot flies straight and level so they can aim properly, but all anyone would have to do is come in right on the horizon which is between the firing arcs of both weapons and bang 2 shots and your dead. I have a hard time believing the devs actually designed these things this way intentionally. The way a MP ship works right now is basically like a slower flying, less maneuverable, more poorly armed, and just as poorly defended (in the way of shields and armor) single player ship with two turrets instead of one. Sure you can train your crew up and be competent at taking down a few tier 4's at a time without them sending you packing back to the repair dock. The bottom line is MP ships are useless for anything other than just messing around with a few high level ships or a small group of low level ships. If you attempt to do anything more than that you are automatic toast and no amount of skill will ever change that. Right now the only thing my YT is good for is doing bombing runs on the vette to help other people master pilot (and this would also be impossible if not for the fact that freelancers don't get aggro until they hit the vette). Doing tier two duty missions is not my ideaof fun this is how those go.
Pilot: Ok gunners we're coming up on the next waypoint. I'm gonna fly straight and level. Send me a tell when they are all dead, as I will be watching TV but listening for the ding.
Gunner: /tell pilot ok dude they're all toast.
Pilot: Ok I'm heading to the next waypoint.
If independent turrets make shooting too easy and like shooting fish in a barrel then how do you explain how anyone ever dies in a single seater. The shooting you do in a single seater is twice as easy as it would be in an independant turret, as not only does the ships movement not affect your aim, but you actually control the ships movement by aiming.
I think some of you don't quite understand what is meant by independant turrets, because they have been in use since world war II on the belly guns of bombers. It is not something that is purely fantastical and fictional. We were using them 50 some years ago, you'd think a society as advanced as the fictional one in this game would have been able to figure that out.

You would have this same problem if IT's are implemented. As a matter of fact, you'll have all of the problems you mentioned whether you have them or not.
But I am done with this thread. I've said more than my piece, and no one has convinced me that IT's will improve the JTL experience.

Ok DosWindow heres where you're wrong. If you had independent turrets and someone was coming in between the firing arcs (granted that you see them in time before they get off their volley) you could adjust slightly and keep them in the firing arc of one of your weapons without completely hosing the aiming of the turret. I'm not saying you need to be able to spin and roll and make strafing runs on a A wing. I'm just saying the slightest jiggle of the joystick by the pilot should not send my targetting reticle careening off the edge of the screen.
I know we're never going to convince each other, but in my opinion MP ships are just no practical in any sense in this game for any use whatsoever. I even sold mine to a new master that needed one for 100k. He thanked me to no end for giving it too him for so cheap and I just told him well with how useful it currently is that's pretty much what it's worth. If I had it to do over again I would have saved the 700k I spent on it and used it to buy some good components that I can actually use on a real ship.
I know I know I can't play the game and you can, of course that's the reason I have my opinion. It couldn't be based on countless trips on MP ships where they are using the exact tactics that you describe and being extremely bored with the whole experience. My first time gunning ona MP ship was fun I have to say, but it was only fun because everything was new to me. After a couple more times manning various different positioins on MP ship runs, I started to think it wasn't that great anymore. Everyone knows about your precious "tactics" and we can all go that route if we want to, but I just choose not to do something that is mindnumbingly boring, and I will never set foot in my YT again unless they make them worth taking up one of my lots for.

Frankly, without this change and a few others, MP ships are just throphy items. That's why every Kessel raid leader ask ppl who show up in MP ships to land and relaunch their fighters.
