Thread: changes for the piloting profession

The escort duties don't bother me WHEN THEY ARE BUSY. If you have swarms of Tier 4 TIEs coming at me on an escort, hey, I'm happy. I usually fly overt for this type of stuff, so that's massive amounts of Prestige and Faction points.

Its when you go 5 minutes of escort without a single spawn of enemies that they become really dull and pointless. I've had this happen in Dantooine a couple times now.

That tends to be the problem with most escorts, either its just plain dead boring or its so many at one time (there's the mission from the Rori space station to get permission to land at the Rebel Base that features overlapping swarms offour fighterstotaling up to ninefightersat a time, with a new swarm appearing when the count drops to eight, that I just have not been able to kill fast enough to save my escort.) you get overwhelmed trying to handle it alone.

I don't mind that, really, I'll try it again sometime with some back up, but there's very little in-between with escorts missions.

I did the Rori mission and I didn't have the same problem as you did. I *believe* that the spawn is on a specific timer and not on a number of how many mission critical enemies are left. I know for sure that I never had more than 8 or 9 enemies at once. I believe I usually had it down to 3 or 4 by the time the next wave spawned. However, if you fall behind you really can get swarmed, I imagine.

What tier are you? I think I was tier 4 when I decided to do the Rori space station quest, so I was usually able to take down 1 or 2 fighters on the initial spawn-in pass, and when the next wave would spawn, I would break off whatever target I was on and go for the nice, straight flying, sitting duck newcomers. That and tier 6 or 7 guns helps alot.

Alliance Ace. I was in a B-Wing at the time, and was having a devil of a time targeting them. This was also after I had been away for seven months and was really out of practice. If it is a timered spawn, then it is likely just my having been in a ship ill suited to the task and rusty as hell.

Remember that not everyone twitches equally. I've got a pilot in my guild with a major equilibrium problem because of ear damage. She can manage on good days, and on bad days, she can't even come into my Nova's cockpit to repair a conduit because the view out the glass would make her puke.

But then, there's always exceptional cases.

You are right, and coming from a Counter-Strike background, I guess I'm used to twitch games and more developed. Piloting isn't for everyone you know.

People perform to their limits and occassionally like to challenge them. Nothing wrong with being less than uber, yet still able to function.

IMHO the current mix of exp and quests are perfect. I've grinded plenty of ground professions, but my favorite was pilot. I liked the challenge and the mix of working with others and on my own. I think the exp requirements are right on and didn't take me more than two weeks to complete. Please don't change a thing.

Yeah, I've been playing X-wing Alliance online for years, and before that it was HalfLife and Starsiege:Tribes. So I find the twitch game much easier than people who's main gaming experience was in MMO's and MUDs up till now (and old people, because, you know, your reflexes are shot *joking*).

See now you're just starting to sound like a troll, and rehashing old arguments at that. But I'll bite.

The mission requirements are good see? They require skill, and make the space grind different from the ground. That bit where you said, "only in SWG," is a good thing. Nice to see something different from every other game out there.

Besides, once you get the hang of it those missions let you skip a lot of grinding. I'd much rather do one story driven segment with some good challenges to it than sit at the kimo spawn in Endor for 2 hours to get enough xp to fill a box.

This person needs to go back to ground grinding where there is no skill involved. Go swing a glowbat.

Therein lies the difference. One is macroable, the other requires effort.
