Thread: Dogfighting in a B-Wing...insane or brilliant?
Then i did some tier 4 duty missions.
I've only had it 3 days, but i love it.
I have done the ISD in my Nova aswell, with a crew of 4. We were on Teamspeak which helped, and my Co-pilot was a decent wingman of mine. I must say, it was some of the best fun I've had in a long while. I want to try the Vette next, but the guys are too scared to come up with me. They say they have all gone grey, and developed twitches since we got a few measly plasma leaks on the last pass ![]()
Don't get me wrong, i love my Advanced X, B-wing, JSF, ARC, Nova. they all have their own roles. I was just pointing out that removing the 3rd wep slot off the Advanced X is a silly idea, as the basic X-wing has a 3rd wep slot. My point about taking the ISd in my X is, although i have done it in every ship I own, including an A-wing that I redeeded, that apart from the Nova, my X takes the most damage. I could up the speed I suppose, it's just that in my JSF i barely need to shield shunt if you hug the superstructure after taking the reactor and such. It's just a tad too big for me to be comfortable in that's all.I do love all my reb ships, the only ships I'd go imp for are the TIE Ad, RG as it's red, and the Deci (omg that is one cool ship inside, puts the Nova to shame in looks). But barr those, I'll stay reb and fly my rebel fleet, and stolen JSF ![]()

My X takes minimal damage killing the ISD, but I take 4-5 passes to do it:
Pass 1) Both shields, boost away to the rear, turn for pass 2 at 1.5k
Pass 2) Engine, up and into the reactor, hugging the deck, turn left and boost away to 1.5k
Pass 3-5) Bridge. I don't like the cheap way of sitting in some blind spot near the bridge as some I see do it, so I make real passes. With a heavy X and 2 speed 7 crafted blasters and an RE Incom Tri, I do about 30% damage a pass without much in the way of return damage. I stick around for the last pass until it dies.
I'm not into the blind spot cheapness that I see some of the small ships doing.

Thats the same pattern I follow, occassionally, I've had a bad pull coming through the slideshow around the engine where the transparent targeting allows concentrated fire to be at its worst forcing me to pull out and do a specific reactor charge, but that's the ideal you just described.

The Advanced x-wing is kind of balanced though because it isn't the quickest responding ship in space regardless of your engine's r,p,y rates and it is still a big target.
So the fact that it has three guns, decent YPR, insane mass, and renders the Y-wing Longprobe and original X-wing obselete just dosen't come into it, eh?

The standard X-wing is still in the game as a good pve or disposable pvp ship...Both Y-wings handle totally dfferent to the X-wing too and the standard one can carry a gunner for xp grinding.
The Y-wing longprobe has two missile tubes too so it's actually good for ordnance duty during pvp. Boring, but it's still effective.
After reading this thread, I was inspired to get a B-wing. Thanks to all for the really helpful information. Reading through this thread gave me a pretty good idea of what to expect (it really is like driving a drunk walrus :smileyvery-happy
, so I was much more willing to take the time to learn how she handles.
I helped two friends do the quests to get their heavy x-wing last night, and my B-wing performed perfectly. By the end of the night, everyone was chattering about how they want to hurry up and master pilot so they can get one too. ![]()
The firepower they have is simply awesome. I scraped together the basic parts last night, which included 4 guns that do max damage ofaround 2700, 2 mark III proton missile launchers (30 missiles on a fighter is awesome), shields of around 1700, armor around 800 front and back, a capacitor with regen of around 45, and an engine with ypr in the upper 60's, and a top speed of around 100. Now that I am a believer, I can't wait to tweak this and make it even better.
Rule #1- Just like the y-wing, slow down. Let them come to you. Having the Tie's try to joust with you, like you are a capital ship is awesome. They won't get more than two passes. Also, learn how to deal with the over-compensation. She slips and slides like an elephant on roller skates. Learn how to account for this by keeping your movements small. When rolling, be prepared to roll in the opposite direction to account for rolling too far. Take your time to line up your shots and don't force them.
Rule #2 - Know your role. During escort missions In my B-22 or my heavy x-wing, I can zoom out front and meet the fighters before they get tooclose to the escort. In my b-wing, I found it was better to let the otherfighters zoom ahead, watch which ones they engage, and pick up whichever fighters they did not engage. I can usually draw a bead on one as it is inbound, and blow it away before I even have to change course. Then I can switch to any others that slipped through and finish them off too. When this is done, I go back and provide support to the other fighters.
Same for taking out the vette. This is a great ship for sliding in behind the vette, and taking out the individual components with your missiles. Let your friends deal with the fighters (although I helped with that part too cause it was fun), and then have them back off while you disable her or destroy her.
In short, I am a believer. This ship is more difficult to fly, but that also makes it fun. I have another friend who has been master pilot for quite a while. Everytime I mentioned getting a B-wing he would talk about how crappy they were.By the end of the evening, even he was talking about getting one. I can tell I will spend a lot of time flying this in the future.
I can't really speak to the PvP part, since I don't do much of that, but for PvE I really like my B-wing.

My mistake with the B-Wing when I first used it was going butt crazy on the guns. Even before CapShunt or Weapon Overload, I had that thing vaporizing Tier 5s.
Three level 9 guns with 3200+ points of max damage, a level7 in the far pod. Type IV shields and Type II armor with a Type IV Cappie, Engine and Reactor.
If I get back in the saddle with it, I'll probably cut back to a quartet of level 7 guns, and go with a Type V shield and engine with some beefier armor. With the proper overloads, I should be able to push it up over 1200 with the foils open, which is enough speed to spoof the ISD guns and waste it properly.
