Friend of mine compared size of the Jedi Starfighter... smaller than an A-Wing on top of 90k mass, clone ship handling (10.4/10.4/5.2) and 2 center guns. I personally would preffer to see other ships in space too...

Who'ever designed that ship must have been smoking crack while filling out ID-10-T forms as design doc's.

You know.. hitting an A wing, running E04 with a L8 or prenerf engine, is damn bloody hard, espeically with chin mounted guns. More luck then skill really. This new fighter? SMALLER?! I want another damn missle tube in each one of my ships to compensate, because frankly, im not THAT good of a shot. Are you? I sure as hell aint.

Not to mention all those nice asteroids and target boxes creating more things for the game to process makes it laggy as hell.

Before the recent changes, I experienced the "drunken bee" crap TWICE. TWICE. And it was because of MY connection. Now I get it every time I go up, and DS is so goddamned laggy that it almost doesn't pay to use the Deep Space Repair Service anymore (unless this was intended).

I LIKE[D] my Advanced, but now all the effort I put into its REed parts and 1k mass over the stock 65k (a chassis I paid handsomely for), was all for naught. Now any Tom, Dave, and Chewbacca can do the exact same thing in these uberships, because suddenly newbie money is more valuable than veteran money. I've gotten the impression from recent actions that everyone who's been here longer than six months is expendable.

All I know is they're picking off the things I loved about space:

1. PvPing is pretty much impossible now, thanks to the asteroids creating large lag-causing bodies in every sector...the unnecessary universal targetting boxes do the same damn thing because it's just another 50-200 things the system has to process, further slowing down personal systems AND the amount of data the game server has to send to YOU.

Who knows, maybe they're trying to kill the easy faction farming in space? God knows no one can have "free fun" in this game.

2. I can't help people do the Vette anymore since I don't use missiles, and I expect they'll get around to fixing these types of bugs sometime in 2007. I prefer my combat close-in and personal, and nor do I use missiles in PvP and I've managed to keep a 45:6 K record with guns only.

3. The "drunken bee" resurgence thanks in large part to #1 & #2.

4. These new ships essentially being introduced for the benefit of newbies (you know, the HORDES of newbies expected to file into this game post-Ep3, even though there's been no advertisement by SOE OR Lucasarts thus far), cheapening the grinds of those who came before them that did it "the hard way." The fact that they're ATROCIOUSLY overpowered in their innate stats doesn't help matters, and a 90k Tier 1 TIE will NOT breed decent pilots - it makes the Imperial grind pretty much similar with the Rebel grind.

I fully expect new Imperial pilots to be b*tching inside of a month about "IT'S NOT FAIR THAT THE REBELS GET SO MUCH MASS ON THEIR Y-WINGS!" These new ships with 600/600/300 compared to the 300/300/150 I'm flying now, combined with the ease of *acquiring* them, has effectively killed space PvP, and it was on life support before.

Why don't you bring back the unbalanced loot again, SOE? You've effectively killed space - what's the harm?

But as others on my own galaxy's forum have said - making posts about this stuff is just shouting into the wind. No one who can do anything is listening, and those that can ignore it and do whatever the hell they feel like or what they're told to by some guy who probably doesn't even PLAY this game.

SWG's new motto should be: "Screw the veterans, make it easier for the new money."

In a mixed group of ships, let's use some of the redone ships versus our old versions.

Old X-Wing: 100K mass
New X-Wing: 180K mass with the exact same maneuverability stats

Old A-Wing: 65K Mass
New Z-95: 95K Mass with double the maneuverability of the A-Wing

In the roles that these ships play, the new ships are clearly superior with vast increases in mass, maneuverability or both.

And in the PvE role where the B-Wing does quite nicely, it's now going to face serious competition from the heavy X-Wing. You don't have to worry about oversteering too much, but you can still pack 3 Reward Guns with ease on the heavy X.

The RotW Starship designers makes my inner pilot cry...

Here I thought it was bad enough that we would see Jedi Starfighters and other obsolete junk at all in the current game, and now it turns out that it's all much more superior than the ships we really should see in space. Did the SWG dev teamenlist the dorks who designed the BFRs for Planetside to do the new ships, or something?

E.G 'The A-wing is the fastest most agile starfighter in the galaxy' - quoted from numerous texts...erm ok, so why am I now being out manouvered by ships which should by all rights at 'this point in fictional time' be -OBSOLETE- and be standing in museums.

Same with the TIE Interceptor....that to me now just feels well..put it this way..a Z-95..regardless of new fancy names/mass should -not- be able to out perform a Squint or A-wing short of absolutely amazing piloting skills.

Don't get me wrong...I love RoTW...however, I can't help but feel that there are some serious canon issues here and it just doesn't add up in my oppinion. I've decided I'm going to be stubborn and stick to my A-wing for pvp..which may be naive but I'm not letting some noob 'd00d3' in a jedi sarfighter put me off the ship I love and they will be shot down because new pilots in these new ships still have a lot to learn about space pvp..and yeh sure I know some of the vets are going to be switching to newer ships but hey..I'm just stubborn and possibly not sound of mind .

P.S.

I guess..its just a new challenge really. We'll all get used to it and adapt in one way or another.

I agree with ya mate, I am not gonna give up my A....been my faviorate ship since the first x vrs tie game came out.

Well, so much for the idea of joining in on the PVP fun. A couple weeks ago I finally decided to get around to outfitting a ship for PVP. I managed to get a kill ratio of 3:2 (not bad for starters). But now, if things are getting even FASTER with uber ships that obsolete the rest... well, I don't see where the fun is in that. Looks like I'll be sticking to PvE and mining. Grr.

Because of Episode III... the devs don't want anykiddies to burst into tears when they find out that the ship "Ani" or "Obi" was flying is not as cool as in the movie . I'm sure they'll give it a balancing pass (old ships vs new ones) as soon as RotW sales start dropping (goes quick with games... they only sell really well in the first 3 - 6 weeks usually)and/or ifa certain projected number of subscribers has stuck around for 30+1 days. That's when the nerf stick is gonna magically hit the new shipsa.k.a the Episode III kiddies get their "good-bye thank you" for buying the game .

I got my hands on a heavy Z-95 tonight. 96k mass. I dumped an average 73.2 or so speed engine in it with a YPR in the mid 60s. Because it only has one weapon it has a lot of room for other stuff. Mostly armor and shields. It doesn't need a big reactor or a big cap. I put a gun on it that did 3k max damage. It's top speed with engine overload 3 was 888. At that speed it turned tighter than my A-wing. I was literally flying circles around things even with a less than uber engine. I also had an image rec 1 launcher. It wasn't a real great test since I just threw it together but it out handled everything else I have. I feel the mass on these ships should be cut in half. They would still be useful but as they are I feel the give way to much an advantage over the current ships. No way should a tier 1 ship be heavier and more nimble than a tier 4 ship. That's just a poor attempt to strongarm people into buying this expansion.

This shouldn't be a surprise. If the good stuff was in the old stuff, who'd buy the new stuff? I don't like it either, and I think the Ep3 post above is bang on.

On the other hand, moving to some bizzaro prequal timeline is a good thing to me, since they just aren't as good as the OTC, I don't care how much SOE screws them up.

The only thing SOE could make that doesn't suck is a vacuum cleaner. Fix the effing game, and I'll fix my account.

The only things my krayt has going for it compared to my new heavy scyk are 2 additional guns and a turret. My heavy scyk packs my 108 speed prenerf reward engine, my 2500 strength reward shield, and my level 8 reward borstel disruptor, plus 1K armor back and front, plus enough mass to add a missile launcher and chaff launcher if I drop some armor. That at twice the agility of an awing (though a larger size), and 4K energy to spare before overloads.

And the jedi starfighter makes my scyk look like a krayt compared to an awing, and offers 2 gun mounts and only 4K less mass.

The devs must have been out of their minds.

I'd have to agree with the last post i have a very heavily re'ed krayt and there isn't a ship on lowca that i can't pvp with engine over 4 i keep up with most awings and with 3 guns with 9k damge a shot i only need 1 hit and they're toast so add the jedi starfighter i wouldn't mind blowing one to heck

They need to nerf these new ships quickly before everyone gets too used to them.

Heavy Z-95 and the other heavy starter shipsshould be 20k or 25k mass

The other modded ships should get 20 percent:

Heavy X-wing should be 120k mass

Heavy Khiraxz should be 48k mass

Heavy interceptor should be 60k mass

If they used these numbers, the new ships would be balanced, and yet still worth the time to do the clone relic missions to get hold of one. Also, the three other clone ships shouldbe looked at too. The jedi starfighter should not be the king of pvp. Its 30 years old! It has an extremely small profile so should have less mass than an A-wing / advanced to compensate. And dont go overboard with the YPR either.

Please devs listen to us on this. The addition of new ships is great. The way they have been made available is very slick, with the quests and all.But youare un-balancing space with the current ship's mass.

I came to post this exact same thing. If they don't see their ill logic soon, and let this all snowball where many have obtained their Jedi Starfighter or w/e, and THEN they try and nerf it... Forget reading anything usefull in theseforums for the next month. It will just be all flooded with noobie rants about how they nerfed their ub3rships they ground quested so hard for.
