Thread: The death of all pre-rotw ships...

This is really annoying i think, especially since i spent the last few months getting my awings as great as they are.

The jedi starfighter juding from what ive seen in the movies and clonewars seriesare smaller than the awing and shouldnt have more than about 40k mass tops.

The grevious isnt as fast as theawing but it has two mounts and has alot better manuvrability, but i guess its okay.

The heavy ships are just laughable, 180k xwing with no manurverablity loss what so ever? Gimme a break.

I would like to see some more chassis speed in the awing, it should beat the crap out of everything (speedwise)but maybe the interceptor.

I'm not going to be seen dead near a starport with a Jedi Starfighter in it.

IN FACT! I'm going to start a new thing..similar to Bounty Hunters hunting Jedi on ground.

I'm going to use my outdated little A-wing and hunt Jedistarfighters for a living.

The A-wing will prevail. Us A-wingers know our ships inside and out and I think that a slight disadvantage to these uberhyper ships like the Jedi strfighter are that they may be 'too' manouverable and a lot of people will be over shooting their targets.

Anyone on Bria with a Jedistarfighter or aiming to get one, I await for you overt . Come get me please.

>>In light of that, for those of you who think some of the new ships are unbalanced, what would you do to change them?

You know, for rebels, the Heavy 95 just outclasses the A wing. Ill flip a coin on that one.

For imperials. the heavy tie? Hold the bus here.

Tie Fighter Light Duty = 12K mass (NOW 95K mass)
Tie Fighter 20K mass
Tie LineFighter 40K mass
Tie Interceptor 50K mass
Tie Advancd 65K mass

So do i have this right? The one ship trumps just about everything in the imperial inventory?

You know i used to fly a Tie/ln just because it would corner faster then a T/I or T/A. I had to make a choice between a dime turn or 10 to 15K more mass. Not so anymore, i can have it all.

What really bugs me, is i can , at novice fly one of these puppies right out of the gate. Infact im doing so now. Made myself a heavy95 last night, and .well, screw the Y wings, im using this puppy tell i get my Xwing.. Awing? Why bother?

Honeslty i feel they should be a teir 4 or master level ship, at about 40 to 50K mass, tops. Hell 50K mass is aguably alot of mass given this kind of manuverabilty.

But heres another worry, suppose they do lower the mass. Remember back when they bumped up privateer ship mass? We were left with 2 versionis of the same fighter. I hate to have another "prenerf" condition arise. We have one too many of those as it is already.

Call me crazy, but I think having Mass and manuverability being directly affected by one another would be a wonderful balance. The faster your ship stats, the less mass it can have. Also, footprint should be directly related to mass as well, the more mass, the bigger the ship.

Of course, the only way this works is to have modifiers for armour as well. The heavier your ship, the better structural integrity and armour support. So the same slab of armour will protect a heavier ship better than a lighter one.

This way, the strakes and widgits can tweak these for different people, and your engine stats and armour stats etc all have an effect and all make each ship a little different. Different pilots will go for large gun platforms with toughter armour and energy saving strakes, etc.

I would also be an advocate for *ALL* of the light fighters having no missile capabilities. You want missiles, fly a bomber or heavy gunship.

you know what i think? i think they need to rebalance all the chasis/loot/crafted-parts, and then delete every ship and ship part that exists right now.make everyone start over with a balanced system, where there are no pre-nerf engines and unbalanced ships.

ive got TONS of prenerf, re'd, and not exactly legal stuff and i would have no problem if everyone started over with nothing.

Thats what I meant with the quotient

Various aspects should play into this which should in the end balance out so the choice of ship is more about taste and not about a "best" ship.

>>I hope though that changing the chassis acceleration stats of the new ship would be an option.

They wouldn't be so over the top then.

I'll be conservative with my nerfage suggestion for now and say......

Compairable or slighly less YPR to ships of existing class (A wing, or T/I for example), and a teir 4 or master cert?

Ive said as much in the past about parts. Balancing is freaking hard because things like Re Engineeiring make it impossible. RE'ing conceivably breaks the limitations that mass was supposed to impose. Quite a few of us are fitting things into ships that i dont think they intended us to be able to. Raising the mass cap ala ROTW ships is only making it worse.

EDIT:

Damn i hate saying that too, cause being a wrenchmonkey is half the fun of JTL to me =(

screw mass then, balance it on weapon slots and chasis modifiers.

oober, ultra responsive, fast, high mass ships in JTL is a very bad thing

i like the balance between heavy, clumsy ships and faster, lighter, nimble ships--althoughsome lightweight pre-nerf engines andguns and with programs that overpowered the best available protection definitely tilted most pvp towardthe light ships (please don't take my pre-nerf lvl 8 priv reward engine...i don't mind sharing, but fast is FUN!)

loving CU except for the extended testing and balancing, but this big unbalance of JTL is very dissappointing "fixing" the mass imbalances by making new, high mass ships that handle like light ships is entirely the wrong direction

Friend of mine compared size of the Jedi Starfighter... smaller than an A-Wing on top of 90k mass, clone ship handling (10.4/10.4/5.2) and 2 center guns. I personally would preffer to see other ships in space too...

Who'ever designed that ship must have been smoking crack while filling out ID-10-T forms as design doc's.

You know.. hitting an A wing, running E04 with a L8 or prenerf engine, is damn bloody hard, espeically with chin mounted guns. More luck then skill really. This new fighter? SMALLER?! I want another damn missle tube in each one of my ships to compensate, because frankly, im not THAT good of a shot. Are you? I sure as hell aint.
