Thread: Petition: Bump up the mass on the Royal Guard TIE Interceptor
Spoken like the uninitiated!!
My friend, I wish to introduce you to the wonders of a TIE Interceptor! Now, granted, a two gun ship will always outclass me in damage. But other than my own weak defenses, most heavy X's don't present a problem, and seldom take more than 3 or 4 hits from a 3.3k damage gun, the worst for me on record having been Nearro who claims he absorbed six of my shots before I got him.
Far from being useless, I pretty much only PvP in my TIE Interceptor. It's become an obsession for me. Agility, great size, and sexy looks. Does it get much better?
And, since I'm normally out and about in it anyhow, I spend lots of time farming in DS. Again, admittedly, not as effecient as a two gun ship, but I do just fine. Guildy logs in and wants to do a mission? Why land and swap ships, my Interceptor is already warmed up, and I've yet to fail a mission in it. Vettes, gunboats, fighters - nothing an experienced pilot can't handle.
With the RGI I could squeeze a much bigger gun in it, and if I was doing PvE I'd keep a light engine onboard. That thing is a beast, and I'm dying for the day it's fixed. Two guns would be awesome, and I'll beg for that after they fix the box, but it's hardly useless with only one.
Like i said, i'd gladly give up 10K mass off the RGI for a 2nd gunmount.
On one hand i want to disagree with some of your statements. The RGI with a fixed hitbox is not useless. on the other hand, i cant argue, i dont PvE in an interceptor at all because its not as effciant. I'll use a T/A or a T/O for that because it has 2 gunmounts and i can farm faster, and when it comes to farming, im all about Time to Kill.
EDITS: I am dyslexic today.

OK, well, since I'm clearly missing something in using this thing, what exactly should I try outfitting it with for success?
From what I've heard, it's either one big engine and light DI, Reactor, Weapons and Capacitor, or one big gun and light everything else. Which is the effective combination? What parts should I be shopping/hunting for?
I really should table my loot - not only for archiving at SL.com...but because even I don't know what in the Hell I have now...
I crammed an L8 reward shield and L8 Borstel RE into a 65.9k mass TIE Advanced back in the old days and still had room for armor, a booster, and a 9k mass reward engine. I went with a single L8 over twin L6s simply because I'm a damn good shot, and a single .370 refire green-lasered L8 firing at .370 blended in nicely with the clouds in Kessel and Deep Space. Prior to taking a small break to go NS killing and pearl hunting, I was mired in a project to lower my mass enough to cram everything from my Advanced into an Interceptor...and I was only off by about 2k, WITH armor.
I'm frickin' Houdini when it comes to making things fit (which will be revealed in spades when I showcase Phoenix), and the pilots of Eclipse should be DAMN glad I ain't flying an RGI, since she'd be in-frickin-vincible if I had *more* than 80k mass to play with, small hitbox aside.

First of all I suggest you fly a regular interceptor for at least a month. Then fly the RGI. It will be a whole new world. Also...try flying the JSF for a month, then get back in your Interceptor. You will notice that you once sharp skills are now about as sharp as a bowling ball.
The RGI is my dream ship although to be honest, the TIE Heavy feels better to fly and does hold more.
For loadouts here's what I pack into my RGI
lvl10 engine 41k mass 81/85/83 PYR (waiting on a nice high speed lvl8 to finish my RE job so I can get that monster out of my RGI and into my oppressor)
lvl 7 gun 13k mass 1900-3k damage .320 refire
1900+ f/b shields (really need to RE those one of these days
pre nerf DI 400+ mass 14ish speed
no armor
M2 IR launcher
800mass 11k gen crafted reactor
500ish energy cap
That's my girl. I use the same engine in my TIE/H but she's packing some very nice armor, shields and a much bigger gun. Then there is the Vaksai....I love that ship.
You'll find that tweaking and tuning your ship as virtually never ending and very much a labor of love. Also keep in mind your piloting style. Are you a better jouster or a better in-fighter? Do you like power or are you a speed freak? How's your aim? Are you a sniper or a room sweeper? The way you fly has alot to do with how you want to loadout your ship.

I just want them to fix the hitbox.
And I disagree with you Ducimus, I would rather not see 2 guns on the TIE interceptor, either one.
Sooo.. i figure your either rebel, or an imperial afraid of a bigger reactor drain to run EO4I know if i was rebel, id be bloody afraid of a 2 gun interceptor. No more 1 hit forgiveness
Not at all, im imperial ace pilot, I could EASILY fit 2 guns on my RGI and run EO4, I use about 9-10k of my reactor, and I can easily replace some parts to get a lower reactor drain. And my TIE advanced uses 11k/12k reactor, and I can run EO4 fine. I don't like using 2 gun starfighters though, otherthan my TIE advanced for gunboat blasting, simple as that.
Now im going to assume your going to say use a heavy TIE, or TIE/IN, I could, but personally, I like the looks of the RGI better.

Leaph i disagree with ya there, but thats just a personal opinion i have.
Basically, i beleive that a single ship should not have the following in one chassis:
1.) Be as small or smaller then an A wing
2.) Have high mass. ( seriously 90K mass is just 10K mass shy of an Xwing)
3.) Have more manuverablity then a T/A.
But again, just my opinion. I just dont argue about it as much as i used to.
Yeh, I agree if you put it like that.
Tie Interceptor original Mass 50k
Xwing original Mass 100k
50k x 180% = 80,000
100k x 180% = 180,000
Both ships got no improvements except for mass, and they both got mass increased in the exact same percenage. What isnt fair about that?

Outfitting an RGI and doing it right is a long term project.
What im working on is
L8 RE'd Engine (22-23K mass QID)
L9 RE'd gun (lower then 40K mass)
MK 1 but proably a MK II reactor to run EO4
MK 1 armor
L7 ProtectO net shield. NOt sure about how low it can go on mass, this is a hazy area to me in my overall plan.
MK I crafted capacitor OR a L2 RE'd one
MK II booster if enough mass left over
chaff
no ordinance, doubt ill have the room, if i do, great, i wub my MK2 IRS
Aim for 14k. Have a couple at 13.5 or so, but thats the lowest I've seen.
And you probably know, but look for level one loot reactors. I have a couple above 14k and one above 15k. Nice to have at under 1400 mass. Helps immensely in ships like the vaksai and JSF.
Just a couple thoughts.

Oh it's for real. I saw some guy on the JTL forum call the Actis a low mass ship.........

As the saying goes, you can have it fast, sexy and, cheap. Pick 2!

You think thats funny? The other day I happened upon a couple of overt Imp JSFs in Kessel, and being in a rare fair mood (they flew JSFs they must be nubs!) I flew past them in my Xwing scattering blaster fire everywhere but at them. About 30 secs later tehy realise im there and decide to attack me.
BOOM! Im off, my level 10 EO4ed engine + booster propelling me at 1550 for 30 secs away from them. I turn and engage, taking ones shields and armour off on the inital pass. I begin to turnfight them (level 10 engine got to love it) and take the engine of the second one, and then its reactor (hey their nubships, no quarter given) turn round and repeat on the damaged one. Less than 30 secs and im 2 PvP kills up. They came back overt again, I burned them and they went covert the third time.
Anyway after I vaped them the first time I say a covert Imp sitting near the rebel corv arrival point, so I /tell him and ask "Where those friends of yours?". "Yes!" he replies. I decide to be friendly and ask him wether he is going for the vette, when he says yes I start to give a few tips to him when I suddenly receive a tell saying
"You jumped them, that wasnt fair, and your no good cause you fly an Xwing, those ships dont require any skill they are easy to fly!"
By this time his friends ahd died a couple more times and come back covert. I say to him
"How exactly is a ship smaller than a fifth my size with more than twice the manouverability and similar firepower, worse than mine?"
He had no coherent reply other than his mates were great and I wasnt. I said "Well tell them to go overt again so we can see who has the skill"
"No way" was the reply "your flying an Xwing that isnt fair"
So in conclusion there are a lot of people out there who really have no clue about the ships they were flying, it was a pity they didnt come back overt, cause after 20 kills and no deaths (lost my 2nd gun though, never press eject!), i strapped on my Ywing, no doubt the ywing would have been even more uber in comparison to their puny nubships! Hehe!
So the complimentry fly-by to let them know you were there is called "jumping" now. You're a better man than I. I look at Situational Awareness as being Natural Sellection in space. I would never walk up to another pilot, tap him on the shoulder and say "Hello sir or ma'am. I will be your destroyer today." The ONLY time I send a friendly warning is when I am in my RGI and farming in DS. I will not hunt or activly PVP. So if I see a Reb I'll send a tell informing them that I am out farming or looting and they attack at their own risk. I won't kill them unless they shoot at me first.
And what is this about the X being easy to fly?! Any person who uses an X-Wing or Opressor in PVP and can actually come out on top is a skilled pilot in my book. Us squint jockies are the ones that have it easy...along with those A-wing nuts. Our skill comes in loading out our ship and not getting hit. Other than that all an Interceptor or A-wing pilot really has to do is fly fast and look seksay.
X-Wings are the only ships that make me sit up straight in my chair and really focus on what I'm doing. A JSF is nothing more than a really cool looking starter ship.
