Ok, with those guns how many hits should it take you to kill somebody in an A-Wing? 2? 3? 4? If it takes 4 hits for you to kill somebody in an A-Wing with those gun, about the most effective gun you can get on an A-Wing is an RE'd borstel, which is going to hit for about a max of 2500 damage in a hit. Add your (sounds like exploited, since I've never even looted an L10 shield with as much front or back as the L8 reward, and yours is over 30% bigger than that!) much larger shields on top of more armor and heavier components, and the A-Wing now has to hit you 15-18 times to take you out. You just became invincible. Even just TWO hits for you to take out an a-wing is 7-8 hits for them to take you out.

Thank you for summing this up so eloquently. Nothing brings home the point like numbers to go with it. That is the major problem with what people supposedly are clamoring for. the average pilot without time to grind would be stuck having to fire 20 times to take down a player heavy fighter while someone who had plenty of time to grind may be able to do it in 10.

Find me someone who can't make themselves immortal with those kinds of odds and shield to cap stunt. Would people who want long fights also want that droid program redesigned? Why, it works perfectly now.

And yeah, I wondered about those shields as well, the highest level 10 shield I've ever seen is a 2.4k front. I assumed he was speaking hypothetically.

Well sir, just an FYI. I have not only seen Vid's components but I've actually used them. Every piece of gear on all my ships is reverse engineered by Vid. I can guarentee that none of it is exploited. I've never seen anyone except an armoursmith with as much storage as Vid is using to collect all his looted (ready to be re'ed) components. So as to the "exploit" there is none.

oh yeah.. my shields on my Firespray are 2555 back and front, oppressor 2200 back and front, also reengineered. (Will post screenies if you actually want to continue your claims of exploits.)

There is no peace, there is anger.
There is no fear, there is power.
There is no death, there is immortality.
There is no weakness, there is the Dark Side. I am the Heart of Darkness.
I know no fear, but rather I instil it in my enemies. I am the destroyer of worlds.
I know the power of the Dark Side. I am the fire of hate.
All the Universe bows before me, I pledge myself to the Darkness.
For I have found true life, in the death of the light.

It is not an exploited shield. I still don't have those rebel droid programs, and I didn't even know about the exploit until it was already fixed. I've never seen a million dollars cash, but I know there's gotta be a pile of it somewhere... Just because you don't know don't go making accusations. My shields are 2555 after RE and my armor is Crafted for over 1k per side -- totalling 3700 protection per side. I didn't say my shields alone were that big.

Second, any player ship is 1-shot for me.

NPC (T5): a-wing - 3 hits, X-wing & y-wing, 4 hits, B-Wing, 5 hits. Gunboats: 18 seconds (didn't count the hits).

Also, I don't know who does your RE'ing or maybe you aren't watching all the stats enough with what you get done, but it's rather amazing what you can build. The one gun on my oppressor that is C10 does max 4698 damage at 0.80 and 0.78 shields/armor. Those 2 last stats alone are what make it so lethal.

And there are A-Wing pilots that sacrifice armor, booster, and whatever else they can to fit a larger gun, so saying that the most you can put out in an A is 2500 is a supposition, not a fact.

Ok that uber gun you just described is weaker thanmy weak one, what's your point? I appologize for the exploit remark I'll edit it out in a sec, but lots of people in the "post your ship stats here!" thread are boasting 3400+ shields, which is exploited. And yes, I know any player ship is one shot for you, same for me. You never answered my question tho. How many shots SHOULD it be for those guns? Because an A-Wing with 1 L8 gun is going to take 4-5x the number of shots to take you out.

that supposisition can also be called an average. but even if people load in their RE'd reward lvl 8 at 3800 damage you are still going to have the same dynamic he wrote about. PVP'ing with averageequipment would be a thing of the past.

and you didn't say anything about armor in your original post, i'm quite sure nobody would have said anything about exploiting shields had you written it out clearly.

Apology accepted on the exploit remark.

And a cert 8 gun that can't do over 3k damage after mods is worthless, I'm sorry to say. I have 2 cert 8 guns installed, one on the oppressor (2nd gun) and one on the Advanced (1st gun) , and both do 3700+ damage with 77% to shield and armor.

So how many shots should an A-wing take with a proper Cert 8 gun? 2 with the current system AND the pilot isn't using WO3. With WO3 it's one shot, period.

How many should it be?

In theory the a-wing should need a good 4-5 hits on me, and I should need at least 2 on him.

How to accomplish that is beyond me; technically in a SP ship I shouldn't be able to fit 10 & 8 together plus that shield, so that makes it kind of tough to say.

Well that's not quite true, about how to go about it...

I figure if it were made so that shields, armor, and ship absorbed 100% of the damage no matter the surplus until it was gone, then we'd have a fight guaranteed to last at least 3 hits no matter the output of your guns... provided you had both shield and armor installed.

Actually in the ORIGINAL post I did, in the one following I didn't.

Didn't realise I had to post details every time in the same thread, my bad...

P.S.

And ok, yes, I'll accept that as an average.

The one fight I had with an A-Wing in my oppressor where it was more than 1st-see-1st-kill he managed to score 1 hit on me (no surprise, he's fast and agile no matter my cert10 engine) and it disabled me to the point I had to leave the system... lucky for me his overconfidence killed him, he thought I was a gonner and flew right in front of my guns.

Under normal circumstances, a disabling shot is as good as a kill.

Ok, I didn't read that properly the first time you wrote it but I like that idea. Only the highlighted part though. I'm not adverse to 3 hit combat I'm just adverse to damage reduction that kills PVP for average players and people without the best equipment.

I don't see how that would solve ganking though, when I get the drop on someone I hit them more than 3 times.

Well if they would fix WO3 to use more energy instead of less, those massive L10 guns would be a bit harder to manage, with thier normal 25-30 energy per shot after RE would be hard on a 44-48 recharge cap, even after cap overload. You CAN still use them, however you would have to sacrifice long term sustainable fire and/or capacitor reserve for shunting to shields. This would make the lower energy L8's a much more attractive option than just "biggest gun possible", so somebody running around with monster guns may have to stop every so often and let them charge, and would be unable to "stim" away lighter damage from hits with a cap to shield shunt, as thier reserve would be smaller to begin with, and they need it for guns.

Fix WO3 first, then start tweaking down PvP damage, very slowly.A 75% reduction like on land is going to make a few pilots immortal, and the rest will be pretty much the same as they are now, quick kills.

quad:

I don't know about you, but if I see 3/4 to all my rear shields disappear in one flash, I'm gonna book out of dodge... and while you still have very strong odds in your favor of taking me out, at least I would have time to see wth is going on -- and we'd have a VERY interesting fight when I got back in 2 minutes! lol

And still, I think that the part we agree on would suffice, 3 hits... can be harder than it sounds.

It seems to me that we've had very different experiences in PvP and DS, and that's fine; it is after all from a spectrum that the best information is gathered.

Eaca:

Yes very true, but I practiced on droid fighters for a while and learned to call my shots / make them count, so again, with WO3 fixed, skill would indeed become more important, especially if it were to take more than one hit. My cap with 47.2 rech & 1200 capacity would limit my ability to shunt or spam, (don't have shunt yet, I should get it lol). Regardless I could launch off quite a few volleys before it became an issue...
