Thanks, sho, this thread needed that

KaylBreinhar wrote: Also, I wouldn't expect more than about 6-7 guns. Reason? Credit grinding. A Chinese grinding shop could stick a "crew" in one of these hypothetical ships, all grouped, and position them strategically around a popular static spawnpoint like RSC, and blast everything away and effectively render the point unusable for anyone else.

I agree, it could easily prove a problem...unless. What if capital ships were always in an instanced zone of space designed specifically for them? Or maybe they should have to go overt to hunt anything? But not permanently overt, as some might want to use them as a grand house in space . Then, if they hogged a point, you could go get some buddies to help you clear it out of that spawn point. If they're credit grinding, my bet is that they're gonna be stationary anyway, so picka blindspot (behind the engines?) and blast away until they notice you or they'redestroyed.

I think there are many problems yet to imagine that we'll have to work out, but then, who knows if we're even getting capital ships like we think? Evidently the video just showed what amounted to an extended vette mission that had a vette and an ISD in it. (I wouldn't know, I can't get it to load...)

Lots to think about, but I think we should keep pushing for capital ships the way most have imagined them,

...Or you could just make it so it doesn't have loot box and thus can't loot anything.

Great point about the Grinding Shops Kayl. Not enough is really said about their impact on the game.SOE should definitely takethem into accountmore than they do. That lame virtual marketplace they're coming up with ain't gonna deter them in the slightest, my opinion anyway.

Lol, the space economy wont even notice a change if more ppl have credit farms...the more credits out there, the more things are sold. So really..the economy would benefit from it. More credits out there means more credits going around to everyone in the market.

I don't think you get it. More credits out there that are UNEARNED and simply bought for RL cash (that's what these farms do, they sell credits) totally F's the economy. Both space and ground based. It creates inflation and price jacking because suddenly, credits aren't worth crap. What used to take months and months to accumliate can now be bought with relative ease.

With more credit farms there will be more competition for your RL cash which will create lower RL prices for credits which will enable even the poorest 15year old to go out there and purchase 10's of millions of credits and then, well, just see the above.

It ain't smart and it does a lot of damage. And if you are eithically (or otherwise) opposed to paying real life cash for electronic credits you find yourself in a very precarious position RE buying stuff in game for a decent price.

While I was worried about that for a while, some time to think about it makes me inclined to agree with Shogin. If capital ships would be that much of a difference, there'd be more POB farmers out there, but there aren't. I rarely see POBs, and then its usually NPC. I also can't think of any easy solutions to the problem that wouldn't nerf it for everyone else.

Lol, amazing what the brain does late at night. When I was typing the above, it was the first time I really ever thought about the term 'nerf' and realized where it came from. lol, maybe I need sleep......nah.

Anyone else think these ships should be automatically overt when in space?

Corvette(150m) shouldn't be last on the list as a Tier 4/Master ship after the 300m Nebulon-B. Neb-B would wipe the floor with the vette because of it's 12 turbolaser batteries and12 laser cannons, plusit carries a squadron of starfighters! The vette only has 6 dual-turbolasers and can only hold troops or cargo.

It's a definiterule all over the SW Universe and EU publications. If it's 100m+, it's classified as a capital-size vessel.

You have just made my point on why we should be concentrating on and encouraging the smaller ships (gunboat-Vette). that's 24 guns... even if you paired them up (like the turbolasers on the Vette) that's 12 sets of guns, that means you need a dozen gunners on top of your pilot, navigator, captain, engineer, whatever else they put in as requirements to fly a Cap.

The Vette has2 dual-turbolasers, 2single turbolasersand 4 laser cannons.

My earlier quite about the Skipray being classified as a Capital ship comes straight from SW.com the Skipray IS considered a Capital Class ship even though it is only 25m long. To compensate for the short front to back hit box it should have a gigantic rear end (like the Firespray)

Just think how long cap ship battles would take? You have to hit each of those "part boxes" which in a cap battle would proablly take an long time.
